Going to get contest entries out the door posthaste; I didn't realized I had so little time for the Mindwarp contest; the info on their site has January dates, but if they're listed here with December dates, I've got to go with the earlier.
The Skyclad video is finished, and the Nevermore take is postponed indefinitely; I got about 50 seconds done, but I wasn't sure that I had the source or confidence to finish it off. Maybe later, or after the series comes out on DVD in the US.
Going through the db to enter the vid, I come across an entry indicating that someone has done a video with Soliwork. Interested, I search on the band and find that said video is by an Italian guy who admits to doing no editing, but simply laying "As We Speak" in behind one of Fluxmaster's Escaflowne videos. This pisses me off. Not only because it's a ripoff, and the resulting combo probably has no synch at all, but because it's the ONLY Soilwork video out there, and now people may get the mistaken impression that this killer band is liked only by ripoff artists. Not true.
I'm definitely going to have to listen to _Natural Born Chaos_ again and see if I can scrape an idea out of it. This insult can't go unanswered. But first.........
Current video: HammerFall, "Glory To The Brave" (video edit) to One OAV. Progress check: 25%. Expected catalog number: #62. As noted before, this is going to be a mildly close parody of the official video, so I stripped the audio out of that and am using it for this new work. Expect this done around this time next week.
Con news: organizing the Mindwarp, Ohayocon, and Katsucon entries onto CD and into physical packages; all mailings will go out this weekend. Then I have to do final checking on all documentation for the AMV DC releases, and get that package out the door next week.
Got a killer idea fro X TV listening to the "clipping mix" for this video, but something tells me I'm going to be spoiling for a KK project when this one wraps..........never know.......

err.....Christmas is done, as is the drafting on the current video. No idea if that Nevermore idea will actually be used; still haven't got the CD yet. From the source that I know I have left after the drafting of the current video, it looks to be a pretty good fit, in the which case something might develop like with videos #21 and #22 ('indirect' and 'maelstr0m'), in terms of presenting different and equally valid sides of a title. Plenty of time to get the CD, finalize and mix down the current video, and try to draft something up over the next few days.
Unrelated: Trigun on Cartoon Network. Fuckin' boss, man. I may have to get cable.
Current video: Skyclad, "Land Of The Rising Slum" (acoustic) to Witch Hunter Robin. Progress check: 95%. Expected catalog number: #61. It'll be done and listed tomorrow, even accounting for a reasonable amount of debugging. So far it breaks SH records on number of clips (177) and number of transitions (30 or so).
Con news: I SHOULD be sending stuff to Ohayocon and Katsucon, but something tells me that'll be waiting until the weekend. Also I should have mailed Machine about getting postal info, but I haven't done that either. Tentative slate for the Mindwarp contest is #30 and #56 XOR #45; #48 doesn't have a chance against anneke's 'Heterosexuality' for PFS, and I don't have any kind of obligation to promote The Dreamside.

selfish curiosity

Man, was I lucky to key of ep 11 when deciding to roll with this current video. Thanks to that and ep 12, I've got well over 12 minutes of source, and a lot of good slum cuts. This video is probably going to turn out slow, brooding, and dense, which fits the song and the better part of the anime.
I've got to do some shopping today (_Politics of Ecstasy_ and a new batch of DVD cases for me, presents for other people) or sometime else in the near future, but I've only got two eps left to cut through, and then the real editing starts.
Current video: Skyclad, "Land Of The Rising Slum" (acoustic) to Witch Hunter Robin. Progress check: 64%. Expected catalog number: #61. The Nevermore video idea may or may not come through. If it does, I have to swap some info in the catalog files for the next block release.
Con news: Mindwarp apparently has a new contest going, but I can't get through to their site to look over the rules. Entries for Ohayocon and Katsucon will ship as soon as I get some DVD cases in; new releases for the AMV DC will go out probably a week after.

this is the prophecy

Food good, cold bad. Home team losing a nailbiter in single-digit wind chill even worse. Not as bad as spending 11+ hours rendering #58 and #60 into Quicktime-compatible Cinepak Radius for Katsucon, though. At least I got the kick in the ass needed to learn how to use Avisynth, which has now become yet another wrench in the SH AMV toolkit, and I'm finally back on track working on the next video.
Speaking of technical headaches, one of these days I really have to strip down my box and try swapping the capture card into the PCI slot currently housing the Ethernet card. It isn't being used, and I know the slot works. If there's still "No Reply" (an excellent album from Daylight Dies, but that aint the point here), I need a new box after the digisub portion of the slate clears; if not, I'm ready to roll and get those really good ideas that have been sitting deadlocked since March out of the way.
Current video: Skyclad, "Land Of The Rising Slum" (acoustic) to Witch Hunter Robin. Progress check: 54%. Expected catalog number: #61. I'm still getting good source, just less of it. Two more eps and I'll be at about 100% overage with four left to cut through. I should have enough to do two videos here with sufficient overage, but the second video is iffy at this point. It'll all come down to what footage I'm able to get, and what I have left after the current idea wraps.
note: the contest announced earlier is terminated. Nobody won, but in all my searching I was not able to come up with a reference for that dialogue outside Gamma Ray. I know it came from somewhere else, though; I've heard both Kai and Ralf live, and neither of their voices is anywhere close to any of the voices in that bit of dialogue.

last thing to go through my mind was the pavement
2002-11-27 13:33:10
Not so much work yesterday because I had to go pick up my bro, but I'm still nearly half done. I'm going to have to write off tomorrow for the usual reasons: local football, food, and national football. Should only be a couple more days after that, though, and then this one's iced and ready to go into VDub TMPEG SVCD Production Hell.
Why do cons do this? I'm glad that Katsucon and Sakura Con are in the offseason, because otherwise I'd never be able to hack converting these formats. Since Nero offers a SVCD-creation package in the version of their burning gear I've got, and TMPEG ofcourse has SVCD presets, Sakura Con won't be as much of a problem (aside from me learning the format again so I don't fuck it up), but Katsucon is another story.
It's not their fault, of course. It's the fault of the stoopid movie industry not letting MPEG2 become the standard it was born to be. Now I've got to get my MPEG2 originals into some format said convention can handle, probably by mass-testing different .avi codecs against Quicktime and seeing which sucks least. Or works at all, which is always a plus.
Current video: Skyclad, "Land Of The Rising Slum" (acoustic) to Witch Hunter Robin. Progress check: 46%. Expected catalog number: #61. I did some hardcore audio resurrection to make this track usable (starting from a 16/11 mono mp3 -- yeeg), and a little processing and editing over and above, so it's not only the acoustic version from _Outrageous Fourtunes_, it's the SH-original Urban Renewal mix. I was also pleasantly surprised to find a lot of homeless content in ep 5; no idea it was there, and it really helped out.
Or so it seems. Said switch to Nevermore might take place, but I may just move the next Nevermore video up in the queue.
