taste sorrow made flesh

Another five and a half hours last night makes it about two-thirds of the way through clipping source. The last chunk should probably take me all tonight and into tomorrow, as it's the richest chunk of source in the whole picture. I'm already well over 100% overage with about 9:53 (by conservative estimate), and again there's going to be a ton of source in that last 30 minutes.
I was in the local sporting goods store yesterday and they had a pair of Beretta M92Fs under the counter. Just had to smile and think about going after that silencer guide....until I remembered that $530 plus tax per gun is a little much for living out your Boondock Saints dreams. RedWolf is much cheaper, *legal*, and will actually sell you silencers.
Current video: *****, "**** ****" to ***-***. Progress check: 55%. Expected catalog number: #64. Due to a screwup in the capture process, I have to fix all clips before sending them into the final video using DVD2AVI and Virtual Dub. Of course, with this much source it only make sense to do this for clips that are actually going to be in the video, so this stage will be applied after drafting is done. That's why the numbers may seem a little behind normal pace as the video goes into that final stage.

no guilt, it feeds in plain sight

Last night was a little little easier, or more accurately, less long. Less good source, partly due to content, partly because I didn't fix the brightness controls before capturing, but I'm still in good shape. Total is up to like six minutes or so of the nine I need, with more than half of the clipping to go.
Con news: I sent CDs to Megacon, Ushicon, and TommyRude today, because it's supposed to snow tomorrow and the roads are bad enough as is. Ohayocon goes down this weekend (almost forgot) and there are 4 SH videos there, two in competition and two not. #45 and #46 are in the overflow showing, and #55 and #56 are right in the thick of the competition. I might have a chance with #56 in Whacked, but among the opposition are Brad DeMoss and Mindwarp, so it's an outside at best. No idea how #55 got picked over #45 for Action, though; maybe just pure edit speed, or qualms about the quality of the Bible Black bits.
Current video: *****, "**** ****" to ***-***. Progress check: 45%. Expected catalog number: #64. If this gets bounced from AniBo, the repercussions will be unknown. It's not healthy for people with a certain amount of aggression to have to lock it away when they're exercising their crerative side. I may buy a gun or something and start ventilating targets on the weekends.

ripping at the spirit

Video #64 is a tiring proposition. But I will battle it through to the end. I've gone through 20 minutes of initial source, and I'm already over 100% coverage. Just like the Boondock Saints video below, there is going to be no shortage of cool source: it's going to be all on me to turn it into something worthwhile. Five and a half hours of work; not any shorter than I'd been going before, and even more intense. But intense is what's needed for KK, so that's swell. As is having sufficient time to be intense.
I figure on mailing CDs to Ushicon, Megacon, and TommyRude's contest on Wednesday, stampeding #64 and #65 out by the end of the week, and then getting off the entries for Tekkoshocon, Sakura Con, Anime Boston, and whatever the hell else I'm hanging fire on early next. This'll probably mean learning all about SVCDs, since I don't trust my capture card to do proper output, but I could use a break from video making (or will once the next two projects are complete) anyway.
Current video: *****, "**** ****" to ***-***. Progress check: 35%. Expected catalog number: #64. This video will also most likely get the designation KK07, and once it's done, there will probably be a contest to win a screener of it before it's released. Dust off your copies of _Scream Bloody Gore_.......

machines supply the altar
2003-01-05 08:49:51
In the dark of night
Abusing a portion of light
While others are sleeping
And some are escaping
A serpent spews out fantasy
Unjustified blasphemy
That can not
Be condoned
This is not a test of power
This is not a game
To be lost or won let justice be done
25%. The battle has started in earnest. We'll see who's alive at the end.

I took a little break before going into the Anime Boston videos around the new year, and this is what I did. Really, there is no music for Boondock Saints but the Dropkick Murphys, but I didn't have any Dropkicks. What I did have was this song, a powerful and emotive piece from another punk/hardcore band that I have nothing but respect for. The video in its design and cutting is classic Shin Hats, and flows pretty well. It's also a bit of a shout to my current scene, because Boston and environs (the setting of the film) is the place *I* currently call home.
Effects are pretty minimal in this, mainly just good ol' crossfades and framerate messing (a grayscale or two as well), but look for the first-ever Shin Hats use of video layering, in which snow is applied to a jam-faded video screen.
This video is kind of dedicated to my brother Jake, who introduced me to this fine picture and who had the original idea for the intro.
Shin Hats Self Grade: B. A solid, decent video. I spent probably too long trying to get this to convert, but the increased quality on the distro version is worth it.
Stats: #clips: 78. avg length: 2.50 sec. total time: 25.5 hours.
Look for this one on CD from the DC once I get some other videos using non-English lyrics done.
