beyond the unholy grave

....is where dead angels lie, but that's a project for down the road. For now, #73 is done, and yes, I did notch the ever-elusive triple-double: three videos in a row where I added both the anime and the music to this catalog. The product of this moderately empty triumph is so perfectly old-school and lo-fi that it only plays properly on analog equipment so far, even though it was made digitally. Makes me wanna start recording again.
Current video: Sentenced, "Aika Multaa Muistot" to Rurouni Kenshin Seisouhen OVA. Progress check: 5%. Expected catalog number: #74. Hopefully, I'll get a mike over the weekend and things will work out and this will get pre-empted until after AniBo while I finish recording _Cairn Zoser_. Otherwise a significant portion of it may be done by the end of the weekend.
As for the future....I may have a decent job lined up for the summer, and there was also this interesting ad in the paper looking for junior Java developers willing to relocate to Maine. There are probably a bunch better qualified than me, but maybe not that many willing to relocate Far Far North, where for me it'd be sort of going home again.
"I came from the utter fields / Crying shame, on tender shields".....or something to that effect. Correct ID of this band wins the Kuroi Kenshi tape comp _Land Of No Return_, soon to be issued exclusively through Ildanach Media.

As I may have mentioned before, reading the journals of others can be a real trip. People are actually considering quitting over a new video? And with RahXephon no less? That's just plain messed up. I'm sure that there wasn't a single band out there that heard DT's _Damage Done_ last year and decided to hang up their guns, or Slayer's _Reign In Blood_ back in 1986. The reaction is, and ought to be here too, kick fuckin ass! Let's get back in the rehearsal room and do this one even one better.
This is what comes of listening to weak music. You forget that you're not supposed to enthrone your idols, you're supposed to kill them. Judas Priest and Iron Maiden didn't have some inordinate reverence for Black Sabbath when they started up to change the way people thought about heavy metal, and Sabbath sure had no love for those who played what passed as heavy rock before them. Sure, Metallica and Slayer *respected* the NWOBHM, but that didn't stop them from making thrash heavier, faster, and better and reducing their idols to yesterday's news. Love of thrash metal didn't stop Death, Possessed and Kreator from making it outdated with something even more extreme, and while Mayhem and Burzum once played death metal, they went on to advocate its extinction (and pursue this end by violence) when inventing black metal.
Nothing is ever gained by sitting still in awe. So perhaps it will be okay if some quit over this, because they would have lacked the conviction to ever create something worthwhile. But the point is that nobody SHOULD.
Current video: Root, "Prohibition" to Maryuu Senki. Progress check: 57%. Expected catalog number: #73. I may or may not change the song on this. Possessed's "Death Metal" or Abigail's "Heaven's Jail" may work as well, and better than the currently assigned song, but due to my outsized ego I would not like to break up a triple-double if it's in progress.
This anime is just too cool. How many times are you gonna see a guy with two hands stuck in the braincase of a monster that looks like it just crawled off a Suffocation or Benediction cover, literally up to his elbows in blood, or a severed head coughing blood on the ground? Not many, that's for sure. I've got at least three severed-head-plus-bloody-stump shots so far, which is two more than I was able to put into #30, and with the prospect of a lot more mutilation in the last ep, I should be able to take top honors for gore wherever they let this one in.
DRINK BLOOD AND WORSHIP SATAN!

Before I get on with the journal entry I would like to express my condolences on the subject to follow to iserlohn, a true scene soldier and fellow Germanist who was served much worse than he deserved. There are people I'd like to gloat over, but he's certainly not one of them.
The reason for this? I got into grad school. I'm in the Michigan CS/CE program (even with no aid), and all that remains is for me to get into the Rackham school (seems like a formality, but you can never be too sure). I might be getting some aid from the grad school rather than the department, but even so it looks like I'm going to be gari-baito all summer, and as much on campus as I can swing. So I might slow down on AMVs, but then again, maybe I won't.
Current video: Root, "Prohibition" to Maryuu Senki. Progress check: 25%. Expected catalog number: #73. No progress, but I did finish the "pressing" of Mind Corruption 2003, and there's a special prize CD in it as well. Those who finished Gravity's Rainbow will know what to look for.

Sort of working on three projects at once, here's why:
I had some encoding errors and some personal screwups that pushed the mastering of the AzuDai tape for club onto the weekend. Also, the trip out to Porter with the club was cool but expensive, so I wasn't able, by time or money, to get out and buy the recording gear that I needed to to do vocals early this week. So _Cairn Zoser_ is backburnered again, 43 of the 100 CDs of Mind Corruption 2003 are burned, and all audio and video source is captured for......
Current video: Root, "Prohibition" to Maryu Senki. Progress check: 25%. Expected catalog number: #73. It's only three OVAs to cut through, so this one should go pretty quick. The quality isn't the best on my copy (by crappy VCR from old EP from laserdisc), but it's worth it to get a shot at a triple-double, which may not have been done on the .org for a long while. Ofcourse, this may change by the time I get the AniBo release out of the way and do the damn video.
Way the hell offtopic: DISSECTION FUCKING RULES. Go get _Live Legacy_, then start stamping your feet impatiently for the Swedish government to parole Jon already so they can start recording the new CD.

Just some quick notes on the current war; I've got too much other stuff to do and not enough time to do it. I'll probably upload a new video to the Carrot Saturday.
For those glad we're finally getting our war on:
Just because the Iraqis don't like Saddam doesn't mean they're going to be in love with us. The devil you know is always better than the devil you don't; would we have welcomed the Chinese with open arms if they had decided to intervene when Clinton was sending tanks against civilians in 1994?
And for the peaceniks:
When you stab yourself with a fishhook by accident, you don't just yank it out. That just causes more damage; the accepted remedy is to push it all the way through and cut off the barb with wire cutters. The only way we could make the current situation in the Middle East worse would be to stop in our tracks, leaving Saddam still in power and Iraq destroyed. Protest the next war Bush is planning. Protest the failures of diplomac that forced us into this one. Make sure that we don't drop Iraq like we dropped Afghanistan. But let the armed forces do their damn job.
