I'm still alive. Workday tomorrow; I'm so glad I don't have to drive out on the parking lots tomorrow. Sleep now...............

In case I don't get a chance to post another of these, I'd like to thank all those who ever looked at one of the video description entries, who downloaded something local, who left a star or an op, who ever sent me fanmail, who responded to one of my posts, who watched one of my vids at a con insteaad of walking out of the room, and especially everyone who had to deal with my crap in any kind of official capacity.

I'll hail all those metalheads on the .org (you know who you are), and the weirdoes who actually read this record. And of course, all members of BAS, MITAC, and all others I've met on my wanderings.

Unfortunately, there's no progress to report on the video; tomorrow will be a long work day if I get the chance to enjoy it. It's only an outside chance that I won't, but the possibility hasn't been this strong in a while.

    As will be, will.

  • two glass houses, twenty stones 2003-07-01 09:15:07
Just finished decompressing from my Michigan jaunt, which was phenomenally successful: I got a lease on a huge room in a cool house for cheap, and Meg and I learned we can tolerate each other in a closed car for ridiculous lengths of time. This is always a good thing to do early: it wouldn't do to get married to someone only to discover that you can't go on the road for six hours without trying to kill each other.

However, it's still a little early to be seriously talking marriage. I still have to get a permanent job, get her family not to want to kill me, and make sure she won't go psycho while I'm out at school. One thing at a time.

A plug and a moral: go to anime conventions, even if you're scared of the fanboys, because you just might meet someone you'd want to spend the rest of your life with....and they just might feel the same way about you.

Back to the present: the house I'm going to be living in come September has a few superficial similarities to Maison Ikkoku. I don't entertain any Godai delusions, though, so Meg can rest easy. I'm going to be in Nikkaido's room, but I feel a lot more like Yotsuya. I want his life.

No work on the video recently, but I may be able to get some time tonight and bust through another chunk, depending on how demanding Meg is. All good, either way. ^_-

I'm glad that tomorrow I'll be in a air-conditioned car traveling cross-country to more temperate climes instead of lying about a non-air-conditioned house. The heat is positively infernal, and to make it worse, it's sticky, sweat-don't-evaporate East Coast heat with ungodly humidity levels due to the 49 rays of rain in 53 days we had going into last weekend. I wanna move back somewhere temperate -- FAST.

Opped a couple videos from a guy who is totally pwnz0ring me on pace; he's up over 40 already in his fourth month, which is about 3 times as fast as me. For such extreme speed his results are pretty good, but they feel suboptimal, which is a shame.

Sent my Shoujocon tape off today, with fingers crossed; contents are #74, #78, and #72, which had some technical difficulties, but late last night swimming in sweat I wasn't about to go back and try to smooth them out. I really would have preferred to send #75 instead of #78, but the audio on that vid isn't up to snuff yet; something for me to fix over next week, after I finish up #79. Hopefully one of the three will get shown; #72 has the best chance as it's the only one that's technically shoujo anime, and it's going a little more outside the box than the typical video.

I mean, really: a cute, quiet, girls' show set to kult Russian keyboard atmospheres I can see, but a cute, quiet, girls' show set to kult Russian keyboard atmospheres VIDEOGRAPHED ENTIRELY IN DARK PURPLE is something else.

Still no progress; this video will be done as early next week as Meg gives me the time to. Like three weeks ago, travel concerns are rising and dominating. I still need to book a room, and major scheduling details are up in the air. Hope I can find that checklist I used last time -- and my maps.

We went in to the Kendall last night and saw The Eye with Joey and Caitlin, who hit it off pretty well considering their respective past issues -- when they weren't stealing my food, that is. The movie was really good, but very Asian in terms of its narrative style. Strongly recommended for those who dug Lain and/or Boogiepop for their creepfest attributes, but it's very little like any horror movie most people will have seen lately. I dug it.

Trailers included some British period piece that held no interest at all, I Capture The Castle, which has a chance to have ZERO hetero males see it of their own accord, the French-directed thriller Swimming Pool, which has some potential to be interesting, Camp, which looks to be another Drumline (or at least trying) with regards to getting a niche youth culture right, and Northfork, which looks to be DAMN cool. May even go back to see it.

This despite the fact that the Kendall is unique as theaters go, not really an art house or a megaplex. It's like a normal 10-screen theater that's been Cambridgeified: high prices (though maybe $9 is normal these days), offbeat movies, and weird food items. Not many theaters sell chocolate tangerine cookies.

Maybe some video work tonight, but I've got some stuff to arrange for next week and a phone call to make. We'll see how things go.
