short entry, gotta print stuff and go to AI. Yesterday I studied, did video work, and decided not to walk ten miles to Dexter to ask about stuff that woul probably get me hauled to the police station. I feel pretty confident in the video now (I've got coverage, after all), and I may even work some more on it today if AI homework doesn't preempt me.
Current video: Seatbelts, "Go Go Cactus Man" to Early Reins. Progress check: 50%. Expected catalog number: #84. At the halfway point, and ready to charge for the finish. I didn't have to do much rebalancing on this one, and will probably do less in the future. The action's kicking up more, which means less talking. Less talking means more consistency. I haven't decided whether or not I'm going to sepiatone this, though I'm leaning that way. Depending on how it turns out, it may go out for competition, or I may gin up some titles like I used in #60 and just do an online release.
Whatever. It's raining like bloody hell here, and I still have to walk over to FXB.

but it's not my time to die

mediocre weekend; no video work, but I wrote a couple of pages in the book, got some homework done, and noted several signs of the impending apocalypse.
Sign #1: Noted at the hippie coop. There apparently now exists a non-dairy, non-fat cream cheese substitute. Dumb hippies. Don't they realize that creating abominations like this will bring the Ragnarok?
Sign #2: Noted on the front window of the bubble tea shop on South U (the same one that has quotes from Kobe Tai in their promotional materials). There apparently now exists mochi ice cream. Just thinking about that makes my brain hurt. I know people put all kinds of weird crap in ice cream, but *MOCHI*? It's a logic fault potentially fatal to the cosmos.
Sign #3: Noted in the front window of Ulrich's All-Purpose Michigan Crap Store. Somebody thought that they could make money selling pre-made fiki footballs and goalposts to freshman goofoffs too lazy to fold their own and put their fingers together. It's on the level of an official tic-tac-toe board. I hope it's not selling, because that would mean that there are people on this campus too stupid and lazy to make their own paper footballs, and with so much money that they would actually buy one in a store.
At least it's staying kind of warm, which means that the Jokulvinter may not hit until I get some boots without large holes in them. So much the better. I've got an exam to study for (the first since I've been here that won't be open-book), but I should be able to do some video work today, maybe clip to the halfway point and then study while the TMPEG renders go.
Ohayocon will get #75 and the Chipmunk Mix as soon as I get time to burn them in accordance with the rules and send them off. I wish I could have this one done, but at the current snail's pace, it''s not going to be complete before the 30th.

a foul sadistic feast

Not much going on....I really ought to do some video work, or work on the book, or *something*, but after so much front-loading of schoolwork I'm in full-on decompress mode. It's back to the grind this weekend as well: 478 homework that looks manageable for a change, another AI problem set, and probably another showing to tear down tonight.
I got the track mixed, and I'm definitely going to pass it off, because there's no way that I can do a video for it. It's just impossible for me. It's not even the style I prefer to do upbeat comedy in, and the original version of the song has too many too strong associations for me to fuck around that much with the remix. Fortunately I do have a neo-protege who had the damn idea in the first place, so I'll tell HIM to go nuts on it.
I also got Iniquity (yes, THAT band)'s _Five Across The Eyes_, which is pretty decent brutal death (fans only, though; "Bullet's Breath" isn't on this one), and the _Reborn As The Enemy_ EP from Day of Mourning. Even though it was 17 minutes for 7 bucks, I still don't feel ripped off; it's that good. Napalm Death-style deathcore is always cool, and they're Canadians to boot.
NJMHCF is this weekend. I'm stuck in Michigan. Not cool.
Berserk manga vol 1 came out this week. I had to buy groceries. Not cool.
At least I don't think I bombed the AI exam too bad....

my train has been derailed

Not much to report; one correct answer so far in the contest posted yesterday, but there's still a lot of time for others to respond. You might want to take a look at the video entry for the vid mentioned before sending your answer in; I kind of forgot to mention that this video isn't really for viewers under 18.
School would be getting better if I felt more sure about the upcoming AI exam, but I don't. I've got to do well, and I hope I can, but.... I *think* I know what's going on with probabilistic reasoning, planning, and everything else we've done since the last exam, but I thought I was in control of the last one, too, and I got taken to the cleaners. Since this one is also open book/open notes, though, I'll at least be able to see what stupid mistakes lost me points last time and avoid them.
It's weird. After two months of stress, I feel odd doing well in school. Hopefully, it'll keep up long enough for me to escape victorious, but it's weird all the same. Maybe I'll have time this weekend to do some video stuff and write through the first half of chapter 11 -- if I don't get sucked into U-Con.
I will *not* waste my weekend playing RPGs, I will *not* waste my weekend playing RPGs, I will *not* waste my weekend playing RPGs, I will *not* waste my weekend playing RPGs.....
Right. I remember how well THAT worked in high school.

and death as the helmsman
2003-11-11 13:39:00
The likelihood of any further video progress in the near future is rapidly diminishing. School is basically going all crazy right now, the book is demanding more attention, and I'm under pressure to do at least one video, maybe two, for the club. I forgot why I hate doing demos. Dumb Kai. I'll probably just mix the audio track and shove it at Kalium: "Lean by doing, learn by doing!"
And I'm short on cash, 800-and-more miles estranged from the person who means most to me, stuck with doing some home repairs I'm not qualified for (my phone jack isn't connected properly), and I got three hours of sleep last night because I sat around the Union reading Metal Sludge back issues after we finished testing.
If my schedule was less crazy, I'd answer the transportation department's pleas and sign up to drive a bus. At the least, I'd make all my living expenses, and at the most, Meg might come out here to personally beat up anyone who put me in charge of operating a high-passenger-capacity motor vehicle.
"The fewer fatalities the better, right?"
Anyone who knows what I'm referencing will win the Chipmunk Mix version of Don't Watch This Video on CD (MPEG2 and xvid), provided they mail in the answer to merlane@hotmail.com before the end of the week.
