JOURNAL: Kai Stromler (Kai Stromler)

After about a month and a half the clipping on the video is finally finished. The source isn't *all* together, but that's mostly waiting on finding some CD-cases for cheap so I can move unrelated stuff off, and make room for stuff that's going to be applicable. In the meantime I've got ops, writing, and school stuff to work on. Fortunately, everyone else I'm working with is way behind as well, so I can get a little bit of a lead if I go all-out tomorrow (instead of going home to sleep between classes).

I didn't work on the short story last night because of two factors. The first was a huge bunch of really pointless drama relating to Ai no Kusabi, which we decided to show a long while back without anyone being sure what was involved. And then of course certain staff members got a little spooked by the explicitness of the yaoi involved. So there was screaming between the yaoi contingent and those objecting, made worse by the fact that almost nobody had eaten yet, since the emergency staff meeting deciding this occurred over the dinner break. (I was fed and hence rational, having ducked out to Dinersty with Kalium and Julius, but we also needed someone rational to run table, and I didn't really have a stake in the argument.) Eventually things got smoothed over, but there are still a lot of fences to be mended.

The second reason was randomly encountering a guy from California who had marched with my old marching-band DI in a now-defunct North Shore drum corps 30-odd years ago, coming to an anime showing in south central Michigan. Small bloody world. That led to a bunch of jawing, and when that was done, it was past 10 and the staff antics started up properly, more reminisces of delinquency and homophiliac suggestions about certain members of the leadership. The usual.

The DDR bit did not come off due to some space concerns, but several staffers indulged in some games in private....until the stench of sweat and unwashed feet made the staffroom unlivable. Someone (probably Temperance) remarked that, for a bunch of people who wouldn't let a yaoi film play even with vigorous age-check enforcement, they were unusually willing to go into a back room with other men and come out sweaty, flushed, and exhausted.

The pool is starting to churn and burn; I'm probably going to have to mail a prize out, but getting this much interest is cool of itself.

Chopped through an ep last night, though I meant to do more. It seems like the work involved always expands to fill all available space, because this one took the bulk of four and a half hours. I should be able to finish sometime next week (how long have I been saying this for now??).

I'll be doing Crypto tonight, mostly, but hopefully I can at least get into position to finish the almost-done story at the table tomorrow. I've got like 5-7 pages to go, then entry...it's possible, especially with the outlining as strong as it is. I hope I don't have to do anything; being a lifting-heavy objects specialist is just fine and lets me catch up on sleep.

The popularity of the pool is a little surprising....people are willing to take the time to make picks almost at the end of March, even though the house says it's going to be in the first week. What the hey, though, it's not like they're putting any money down on it.

  • to serve the maggots' need 2004-02-12 16:39:55
I did next to nothing productive yesterday. Instead I started a pool in the forums about how long it'll take the number of local videos to hit 10,000. I thought I was going to NOT waste so much time on the .org this semester. Oh well, at least I'm five pages out from completion of one short story, solidly outlined on a second, and well placed to do some actual demo work after I wake up (again) ~10PM tonight. I really ought to just go full-on nocturnal so I wouldn't have to deal with this, but bloody Crypto is at 9 in the morning 3 days a week. SUCK.

This weekend my work will be disrupted by Animania (again, now with DDR-dinner-break-madness) and missing two shows. I'm 800 miles away from The Gathering with Agalloch at the Middle East, and there's no way I'll be able to get tickets for Rollins, actually in town, even if it's his spoken-word stuff instead of his band. MORE SUCK.

    Offtopic:
The campus humor mag around here just put out another issue. On the back were some "Valentines of Hate", most of which were pretty lame. One, however, would have some potential if MTV hadn't jumped on hardcore with aeration cleats and turned it into Hatebreed and a bunch of lame emo whiners. Here it goes:

    Roses are red
    Violence is true
    Pain is my oxygen
    I've got over you

This could be the start to a really cool song if only there was a band alive to play it. Unfortunately, bands that sing about relationships whine about them, and bands that bring this kind of lyrical heaviness have no use for relationship subjects. Oh well.

No, I'm not bitter; I'm just sleep-deprived and underfed. But that won't matter to those who feel the SO FULL OF HATE.

Threw a bunch of old, not-so-good vids up on local this morning; there would have been one more, but I screwed up assigning stuff, so it's hanging on the mods' action to delete the offender and get the ball rolling again. There will be an entertaining post in Announcements when that happens.

May do some more work on the demo tonight....if I don't need to sleep straight until I have to go to work. May finish up one of the newer short stories overnight as well.

The video limps slowly toward completion, and provided that I can get in and out of class in good order, I ought to be able to clip through another ep tonight -- as well as finishing the homework that's now sorta due and doing the current block in the on-deck story. I need to learn to work more and sleep less; sitting around reading and listening to old Shadows Fall doesn't help with class or my myriad other projects. And I'm now behind on ops too. Got to push one more out, at least; probably do that Thursday instead of recovering properly from work tomorrow night.

Been listening to a bunch of CDs lately that I haven't in a while....Noctuary, Maudlin of the Well, Shadows Fall's self-release, Bal-Sagoth (who the fuck lets these lyrics out the door?), and Nile; I think I have Suffocation, Apocalyptica, Days of Mourning, and maybe something else queued up right now, I kinda forget. I ought to be editing DSV, but it's bloody complex as I have to maintain changes over three versions (main, annotated, per-chapter), so I'm still waiting to do it on paper. It'll probably be pushed off till break....even though I've got deliverables I have to push out during that timespan. Not much I can do but keep going...
