only the dead are smiling

Basically up on everything I've got to get done, but there's a bunch more stuff I probably ought to read. Work never stops...I'm booked solid from now till at least 9 or so, and then it's the same grind tomorrow, only more of it.
I have a tentative implementation of punchcarding done, but I'm running up against the limitations of the Win32 memory manager when actually trying to render it out; threads are staying resident and not freeing memory for use by other instances from the same app, which is resoundingly uncool and may actually be a bug in Avery Lee's filter. Hopefully I'll be able to get the required programs and fonts onto the new box shortly (still have to rev the bloody install) and try on something that was actually designed from the ground up to handle multiple threads; if it still fails, then it's time to send in the bug report, but this is post-prod stuff, and the pre-prod version of the effects design for the coming video looks neat enough as is. I've finally gotten that "rained-on punk rock flyer" look, with enough turbulence to suggest something like the middle passages of #70...though this coming vid is not going to be anywhere near as explicitly political.
Start my new job today....hope I don't screw up too bad, permanent hand injuries are the last thing I need right now.

Working on realtime....maybe I'll finish it before I have to go prep for the database meeting, maybe I'll have to grind all night after the CJN meeting and any associated shenanigans. At least I've only got two papers to read tonight.
I'm chewing over a new video idea, but I don't know if I'll get any time to work on it. I've got the effects design done already, using some basic ideas that I worked out back in #69 and kind of explored in #88, and I think I have a handle on how to implement punchcarding, which is something that only two other editors have ever seen in action. The only problem is that punchcarding is going to involve some huge and heinous scripts (as I see it now), and I don't have the time to write such.
I need to get the new avisynth, and write some proper programs in that....a loop control, frame- or time-granularity, and a random number generator would really save my neck. Fat chance of being able to do anything with it given academic pressures though....

Class shortly, busy all day today, even though I'm supposed to have it off. For now, though, there are 14 vids available that weren't available yesterday; one more needs to be put up because I screwed up, and a sixteenth may go up after re-encode.
Now let's see how long it takes the U to beat my ass for mass hosting ero-guro videos....

we made the false hammer fall

I'm sitting in the Sun lab with Kalium, and he sez we get a full gig on the ITD side. Fuck yeah....now I can direct-host all the stuff that isn't.......except maybe #48 and #90, because the U will probably not be happy about mass hosting of [illegal, in the case of #90] pr0n.
Expect loading tomorrow morning, and a shortly following "kill the U-M servers" post in Announcements.
Glad I'm not going to be using that space for anything else....

life is just another game

Video stuff first; I actually found an idea (while cleaning up my HDD) that I might be able to knock together over fall break. It's nothing world-shaking, but it's like I need to have something cooking or I have problems concentrating (event hough, really, it's just another distraction...). Pretty sedate, then the next one will be weird, then after that, probably the big huge iron-toothed actionblast that's been on the planning list for the ass half of forever.
This weekend, though....football and hardcore realtime homework. Then after that it's two project proposals in four days and a showing dropped into the middle of fucking fall break. As if I wasn't behind enough on training......
and out in the real world:
I was reading the campus right-wing paper this morning, and it was pure crap. Conservatives used to make actual intelligent arguments in there, have something to say, but now it's like the crazy guy on the corner over there. It's like they pulled the entire issue out of their collective asses with five minutes on deadline after getting plotzed watching their alleged presidential candidate get whalloped last week. The fuck, man. I mean, if William Pierce could for years on end put out cogent and reasoned defenses of why everyone ought to be a Nazi, it's at least theoretically possible to find some good points with the current administration.....and since you're on a newspaper staff at a fucking Institution of Higher Education, you should be at least minimally qualified to write about it.
Then again, the state Republican Party around here wants Michael Moore locked up for election fixing because he gave underpants and ramen to people who showed up at his rallies and registered to vote, so maybe someone just stole the national RNC list and spammed it with crazy pills. Or maybe the Libertarians had a recruitment drive baited with the rewards of their drug policy, and the standard-issue rightists just got wasted instead of enlightened.
And much more importantly, the Red Sox are up two games on the Angels, and Grady Little is nowhere to be found. Rawk.
