First video project.

I started my first video project about a month ago. I have done a couple tests using AMV app, and finally started making the video. I ran through it quickly, and as I am sure most people notice the first time they make a video, it didn't turn out the way I wanted. The ending synced up well, and the story is there, but the video looks like it was just thrown together. The anime I have chosen to use is Gungrave, the song is fittingly The Final Goodbey by From Ashes Rise. I am sure everyone has seen a similar idea, to some linkin park song or some random band before, and everyone has had their fill of metal/punk already. T
his idea has just become eating at me for some time. The first time I heard the song a while back, I thought of this anime. I want it to be perfect with no effects at all. I plan on finishing this project soon. I have been studying for tests and such for the past couple weeks. I plan on finishing this AMV by my birthday April 8th. If I don't have it the way I like it by then, I will just upload it the way it is, and do the next project I have in mind with the gift on knoledge I have gained from the first one I made. The next project is going to consist of Fade to Black by Metalica (back when they were good) to the anime Gunslinger Girl. The method I have chosen for that project has added a substantialy better method of creation to it.
I have started with my next project about a week ago, when I decided to use a method called storyboarding. This is common for people who actually do their own animation, and was suggested to me by a 3D animation friend of mine. He told me to break the song down to sections, and allocate frames, and parts to sections of the song. That way I don't stray away from the initial idea of my story because I am running on about sections before. I am thinking of watching gungrave again, with a pen an paper, to actually storyboard my first project, and get it back to the way I initially started up.
I am using Sony Vegas 6.0, and I have a pirated version of After Effects that I was toying with. After using it for tests, I have determined I like it enough to actually use it, and buy it. I won't use it (in fact will probably delete it) on my current projects, until I actually get some cash saved up, and buy it.
