Rollin' rollin' rollin'....
2003-02-26 16:53:08
Unreal Editor's more of a bitch than Adobe Premiere on a bad day. But anyway....
MegaCon weekend. I shouldn't be dreading it, but I am. It's sandwiched between tests and a presentation for my Game Engines class. Not to mention accomodations are a bitch this year. I have a roomate and a complaint from the front desk of my housing complex, and my idiotic friends still can't understand why I'm so reluctant to have anyone crash here. I swear, sometimes I picked the most immature bastards to hang around with.
What's ironic is that the friend I bitched about a while ago is actually sticking up for me. He's being serious for once. I honestly didn't think I'd live to see that day. But I can't look a gift horse in the mouth.
I just hope the AMV contest is worth it.
As for the VCAs, last year's veterans were right, It DOES get ugly. Already have certain people complaining they didn't get nominated, and the winners have yet to be chosen. I know competition is part of being an AMV creator, but damn it, GROW THE HELL UP! Quit'cher bitchin'! There are other contests out there. Want an award? Start your own damn contest and judge yourself the winner. It's sad to see some otherwise mature people get up in arms about a frellin' popularity contest (and that's just what the VCAs are. It's not a judge of talent. It's a judge of how well you can pimp your work). Thank you, Kwasek, jbone, Ashyukun, Vlad, and others who have actually remained sane and down-to-earth about this whole thing.
Certain people who play a game only to win, or in this sense make AMVs only for awards, are sad individuals indeed (the person in question knows who they are). You may be doing great work, but what separates you from the truly awesome creators out there is that they do it because they love it, and it shows in their work. Those who don't expect an award are the true artists. I don't care what age you are, you have the mind of a selfish child. And I can say this because I didn't get nominated for anything. Nor do I give a damn about it or not. Because I don't make AMVs for awards. I make them because I love doing it. An award at MegaCon this weekend would be nice, and I sure wouldn't decline one, but I don't need to have confidence in my work or myself.
Ok, that's my bitch session for today.

I THINK I can sleep now
2003-02-23 22:19:38
Well, Milestone 1 in this damnable game project is about as finished as it'll get by tomorrow morning, so I THINK I can sleep. Of course, I could just stay up all night in the lab and get a head start editing that Bloodlust video... Depends. Do I value my sleep? Hell no. Sleep is for the weak, and I'll get plenty when I'm dead.

Gaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhh!
2003-02-22 17:42:38
Taking a slight break from the hell that is Unreal Editor. Why we can't make 1 REALLY good level instead of 20 really cruddy ones I'll never know. Basically this project is creating a game off the Unreal Tournament engine. It's a LOT of work, especially for one semester.
Good news is, the lab here on capmus has Premiere 6! That means I can at least get a head start on editing videos, then worry about exporting when I get my new laptop (I doubt I'd be able to install the AMVApp in here)
Back to Hell........

Well that's a bust

Until I can my new laptop with a CD-RW drive or a better Internet connection, that free hosting will have to wait. I had about half my video uploaded to Tripod (sitting here for over two hours babysitting the FTP, mind you) before my stupid connection crapped out, and had to fight a 20-minute busy signal to get back on. You know, for all the frelling tuition I pay that damn school, they could at least give me a server that works.

Hacking = FUN!
2003-02-20 17:39:47
Thanks to SQ's advice, I just might be able to hack the file extensions on my vids to get them up on Tripod. They only accept .rm and .wmv. I might be able to slip it past them if I changed the .mpg extension to .wmv It's worth a shot if it'll get me free hosting. Then I don't have to sacrifice quality.
Progress on Operation Rebirth is slow. I actually have to finish up a project this weekend, so screw getting any work done. *glares at 3/4 done storyboard* Someday, my pet, someday....
