  • Serious Lip Sync 2002-10-04 13:53:09 Ian,

Most people don't think of lip sync when it comes to serious... honestly
I find it can used for just about anything... as long as it's well done and
doesn't stick out as toooo "weird"....

My Fate video abuses lip sync for a very angry song/character... now as for
drama I think it could be even harder for a viewer to take is seriously...
due to the classic humor application of it.

Oh yeah, don't let the anti-effects stuff slap you around. I support the
"make what you want to see" movement. Editing is your bitch, the videos
    shouldn't be make you their's. :P LOL
  • Big AWA8 Journal 2002-10-01 20:39:25 I posted this on the forum, but decided to update, change, and
dump it into my journal too... :P

    Thursday:

Flights of... well... not too bad, everything was on time. I was
reading my Anime Encyclopedia and learning about shows I would
never see in my life. I arrived in Atlanta around 5 and thought
wow it feels kind of warm. So after a long walk I finally found
the exit where I could get a shuttle to the Sleep Inn. ... WHAM
the 167% humidity hits me like a ton of bricks. I look down at
my book and it looks like I dropped it into a puddle. My whole
body feels drenched instantly. Fortunately a shuttle shows up
shortly and I get to go back to my hotel and take a shower while
I leave the A/C cranked on max max max. I went over to the Sheraton
and nervously poked around in the VAT room after getting registered.
I missed out on the AMV dinner I guess... As opposed to staying
around I decided to get some dinner... after roaming around a while
I realized that the Ruby Tuesday resturant was really the only
thing in walking distance. I walked in and ordered a burger and
fries to go. While I was watiting I began to sweat a lot because
I had been walking around outside all over the place, and I was
in unfamiliar territory about to meet EVERYONE :P (nervous etc etc.)
I didn't go back to the VAT room sadly, but instead I went back
to my room and slept so I could be remotely awake for AWA.

    Friday:

Woke up at the crack of 8am to get ready and walk over to the Mariott
courtyard to meet the 'gang' I planned to meet up with. I didn't
know what to think when I walked into the room and met Julian, Willem,
Junior, and Dave (who I didn't even realize was driving with them).
Everyone was as awesome as I had expected, which made for no stupid
confrontational moments. Went to the con and met more people, then
headed to the airport to get John and Danny. More amvs, more meeting
people and a trip to the diner for lunch. Returned, met more people.
Had a bottle of frat punch and roamed around until about 1am. Slept...

    Saturday:

Woke the gang up over at the Mariott by appearing in their room. Headed
over to the con for Expo and Pro amv showings... saw my Big O video and
heard it was awarded 'underground.' Had diner food again...
couldn't enjoy my BLT to its fullest with all the butterflies in my
stomach about the contest. Came back and sat at the competition...
I slipped out just after the Expo section was complete to run to the
restroom and came back in time to see Jescaflowne's Spectacular video
win over the crowd! (wonderful video! :) ) When the masters begun I
was a bit confused about the order (since I thought he had mentioned
that the first 11 would be played... as just entrants... and then the
winner would be played) Instead all 12 were played and then he simply
announced that the last video we saw was the winner. My video, along
with the others in all the contests suffered the fate of too much
lighting. My video ended up with more 'blackness' on the screen than
was intended (some fades were meant to be very slight... but lead to
total blackout) Oh well, I was very pleased to share the video with
the audience. After the contest I returned to the amv room to find Emerson
schooling (and at one point almost being schooled) in the DDR competition.
I was impressed and scared at the same time! hahaha Had some stronger
frat punch after the excellent iron chef competition... went home at
4am after the hour that didn't occur at 3am. (??)

    Sunday:

Tried to wake Wonka up to go to rys' panel... ended up going alone. :P
I remembered that Carlos was leaving early so I went back to their hotel
so I could go with them to the airport... ooops I missed. They went to
lunch and took Carlos to the airport. It was about 3-4pm before I saw
any of the gang. Due to a canceled event I finally was able to see
Grand Theft Bebop on the big screen (my requested expo entry). We stayed
for the amv closing ceremony and all sat around outside for a while.
Later we had some decent pizza (guys, thanks for the pizza!)

    Monday:

Visited the Mariott for the last time at around 9am. The Texas gang took
off around 10:30. Danny and I went back to my hotel so I could check out
and then shuttled over to the airport for lunch and flights.
Planes... landed... still asleep even 24 hours later after a good night's
    sleep.

    General:

AWA8...many thanks to our party hosts, jason, alan, and joe. 8)

AWA was outright amazing. I was freaking out and nervous about the
contests and meeting everyone. Fortunately, everyone I met was
awesome! The contest and all the amv events were great!

(minus my slight letdown and realization that the video contest event
was done on what seemed to be a smaller screen... in a room with too
much light near the screen... and off of tape... oh well, it just
made everything a bit darker is all) No big deal though.

AWA = AMV Creator Con + anime riff raff

I wish I had stayed later on friday, but I was ultra tired... thus missing
out on the amv table of super powers. ;)

I met way too many people, and in doing so didn't get to spend much time
getting to know many. But I don't think that's a shock considering this
was a huge "meet-ang-greet" (to quote mj).

lol, EK looked as though she was either always busy or being harrassed
by fanboys (or just boys :P ) ...oh well, I was still able to meet her and
occasionally say hi or otherwise... I'm sorry I didn't stay for the panel,
just moments after I said I would, I was off to a much needed lunch.
I told Carlos to stay and be supportive in my place. :) oh yeah... I guess
I lost my bid on dorothy ($26 isn't what I think of as high-rolling, but
still was in the lead for about 2 seconds... and the auction was right around
    the amv contest)

I ended up spending most of my time with mj, carlos, the hypeo boyz, john,
roz, and big dave. (I'd say danny, but the alcohol made him invisible
at times... lol) What a great group of people! :D I had planned to spend
most of my time with hypeo, carlos, and rvp. Big Dave was hilarious, vicious,
and a good guy... mostly vicious though, hahaha. John and Rozard (RVP) were two
people I didn't know quite as well but enjoyed meeting and having them as part
of our 'too-big for one suv' gang of amv buds.

MexicanJunior was as cool and funny as he on the boards and on im. The
'project' will go on. hehe, dude you need to see a doctor... either that
or stop eating altogether. Also your own little melodrama was forgotten
in about 2 hours on friday... after you almost gave birth! It was funny
to slowly see you accept the fact that people like your work, no matter
what you might believe they think. You were lit up twice by ermac and quu
with their professed joy in watching liquid petals. :) Watching your reaction
was quite entertaining... video quality isn't the world. PFS and the hour
    that didn't happen... damn fine.

Wonka and Beowulf(hypeo boyz) were awesome. Beo coming in at 16, but turning
23 next month (lol).... and Wonka with a perpetual smile and hawaiian shirt.
Unless we all missed them, both of you were robbed by not having a single
expo entry played (not to knock on VAT too much because it was a ton of work
for them). Oh well, I had a great time meeting you guys and look forward to
more amvs and madness in general!

Poor Danny not only was dogged to death by Big dave, but attacked due to being
drunk... lol... makes for some entertaining stories. Glad to have met you
and hope you can get your super computer together and have at with your
    amv ideas!

I was very glad to finally meet Carlos. I have always liked his editing
style and extensive lengths of effort to make truly dark videos. I was very
pleased to be in the masters competition with one of your most disturbing
and creative videos. ...and as I told you at the con your work has always
    proven very impressive to me.

It was very cool to meet and hang out with the other Tim. The legendary
dokidoki to me. :) and again, glad you enjoyed the haunted junction video
and even played it at your panel! x 2 Many thanks! :) good times
good times, big party in 4XX (don't remember the # now)

Lol, rys(jason) told some people to be sure to come to his panel... the
candle setup was great! It was a shame that your panel was on sunday
and cut down your audience. I apparently hadn't seen much of your work
but to be honest I felt as though I had really missed out! Great work on
the panel with very entertaining videos! Then you bust out
the complete shock to me... the ninja girl video! I am not sure what you
said right before the video... then bam "all right...." I was grinning
admitedly... big grin. :D Thanks Jason!

Joe, great humorous video in the iron chef! To be honest I didn't really
care who won the iron chef because both videos were very well balanced
in their given styles. I was very glad to have met joe mabo, considering
some of his works played a big influence in my decision to keep making
videos and having a good time. Maybe next time I will have TWO bandai
    freelance ;) checks!

Kusoyaro, great work on the iron chef. You and Joe both did some very
enjoyable videos. Very glad to have met you... and avoided any of your
barfin' too somehow... I guess I was lucky? Since I missed your panel I
still need to hunt down the video that many people were talking about...

Ian (AD) was someone I was very much looking forward to meeting. ...and
as usual with AD I was very impressed. Friendly and having a great time.
Nothing overbearing or ego at all. Just another amv loving editor (just
one that pours time and effort on like syrup). Congratulations on the
awards and a real pleasure meeting and talking with you. I hope to be at
AWA9 to cheer you and Kusoyaro on!

Nathan the happy shiny drunk with bunny ears. ;) Great work on the videos!
(technically beyond my imagination at times!) Glad to have met you and
been witness to your own brand of madness. Be sure to keep the ears at other
    cons... super powers etc.

Vlad, a very well known and respected editor was a great guy also. He
likes to talk amv shop (thus a good panel person) and was very friendly.
Thanks for sharing the Trek video... nothing fancy, just a funny
    video and idea.

ErMaC, congrats on the DDR win!. I saw you going crazy right at the end of
the competition... kind of just floating over the dance pad... not even
'standing' with all the steps you had to hit. (I was watching the screen and
about died looking at the necessary steps)

Lord Rae, very glad to have finally met you, and even got to see your
Key video in a much more appropriate environment than my room at home!

Quu... you, and of course the VAT crew, are all the best. Thanks for all your
work and effort in giving us looney amv creators a great place to share
our work! Thank you, thank you, thank you!

Sushiboyjared, very glad to have met the one person with a video in the masters
that undoubtably deserved and received a standing ovation for madness,
creativity, and excellent editing. Thanks for sharing!

MTT, I swear it was just 3 people... lol, I just kept meeting more of
them... Glad to have met you all! :)

David Violence was also there doing some filming. You sure caught some
    interesting sounding stuff... muhahaha.

hmmm I met so many people... some other people that I was
able to mumble a few conversations with: hakura, jescaflowne, aluminum,
bloodyfang, neo(who was around when I was supposedly a mean drunk haha),
mcwagner, meric and veggettoex, jbone, greyplague, demoss, paizuri, and himiko.

There were more I am sure... just my memory isn't so great when recalling
    50 new people... haha.

Final Thoughts: This was my first con ever. I loved it. I loved meeting
everyone and just being a part of the amv contest. I wasn't concerned with
winning (I was nervous... but that was just from being in a big ole audience
and watching my videos!) Thanks to everyone for making AWA friendly and
more fun than I have had in ages. :) I hope everyone else had a good time!

One final bit, I know that some people will not be happy with the judging
etc for the con... but I really don't think you should care too much. If
amvs were life critical then the results would be REALLY important. Let it
go. Don't dig into people or videos too much. A little, sure it's expected
of any competition... I think just meeting with people who enjoy the
same obsession/hobby and sharing your works, thoughts, and good times
otherwise is much more important. :)

Thanks for making AWA so much fun everyone! :)
  • AWA8 2002-09-24 22:22:15 Since everyone else is posting... I am a sheep and will do the same.

Lord Rae, glad to read that you're attending AWA. :)

I have EVERYONE to meet... since I have never been to any cons nor
do I know anyone in the amv world personally. :P I am excited and even
just a bit nervous, ya know meeting EVERYONE and all. =)

Looking forward to meeting EVERYONE and hoping to have a good time!
  • 2002-09-17 20:31:01 WOO! The American Diabetes Association sent me the check/address information so that any time cafpress cuts a check it will go directly to the ADA.

Wooo... no only if people would buy my cafepress stuff. LOL.

My site is down and I have no idea why... :( I will give my host (a friend) some time before I start badgering him with phone calls haha.

  • Cafepress 2002-09-14 19:53:15 Nothing like shameless advertising! =)

    www.cafepress.com/nhmk

I decided it might be fun to design some shirts... and other... 'stuff'

So far I have 3 simple items... I contacted cafepress about having any profits go directly to charity. At this point there are no profits to me, only to cafepress. (base prices)

I expect to see nhmk shirts at AWA8. LOL, just kidding!
