VCAs, work and editing
2003-02-25 22:13:42
Glad to know that people are enjoying my videos. Awards or not, I love editing! =)
Although I have started working full days, I am trying to make time to edit after work. So far it's been a bit slow, but I am still enjoying it and am about 1:20 into my 4 minute video (total... I did the intro first this time... and no it doesn't have an intro that beats the jubei video in length hahaha).
No clue when this video will be done. It's going to have a lot going on visually. As for the story I can't tell you ... eye of the beholder and all that. :) It's not effect loaded at all... unless you count my 'classic/movie trailer' methods as effects...
Thank you for your continued support of my hobby/addiction. (very personalized!)

AMVs be a slowin down.
2003-02-18 19:09:59
Well my new video is progressing slower than usual... although it doesn't bother me a bit. I edit for fun, not as a career... though admitteldy I enjoy editing for long periods of time, it's not happening as much now.
My new job is starting soon. =)
... VDMs and the joy of classic games like Day of the Tentacle is quite the distraction from editing. Oh well. My video output number has declined over the last 2 years anyway. :P
20+ in 2001, 13+ in 2002, so far 1 in 2003... maybe 2 by the end of this month... we'll see. haha
I am an editor, not a cow.
:P :P

The Joy of AVS and TV movie ads.
2003-02-16 14:58:20
So avisynth and I haven't been getting along very well. One day it works in the afternoon and then doesn't at night (with no changes to my computer)... oh the fun. Then I suspect that maybe something is going on with the filter imports... so I decided to remove the vdub_filters.avs from the avsfilters folder. This has helped a bit... oh but wait... that's not flawless either. For some reason it still fails on occasion... but wait... then I remade the d2v files with dvd2avi 1.86 (instead of 1.76) ... and yes I doubly backed up all my projects etc, nothing is being overwritten.
The 1.86 d2vs haven't failed yet... but the question is... how different should the d2v files be? From what I understand... not a whole lot. :P
Oh well... the battle rages on anyway.
...and now for something completely different...
as I have joked around with many people about this subject... I often compare my use of effects with tv movie advertisements. They are often quite... well let's just say they all follow a formula. This isn't true for all movie ads, but if it has remotely any action in it (such as a horror movie) then you are almost guaranteed to see the following effects:
In order of likelyhood (and most used within a single ad)
1) White Flash (not a white frame, but a additive like dissolve from white or to white)
2) Invert (I used to think this was the champ... but white flash is more common in the current stream of ads)
3) Fast Blur (as it is named in premiere at least... this one is used as a transition for some reason... usually it blurs to the sides and then the scene just changes to an unblurred one... dunno how that's a transition exactly... but oh well)
4) Radial Blur/Zoom (always zoom) (This is obligatory, at least 1 per preview)
5) White Frames (I hate these... just slapping a solid white frame in as a beat hit etc... ugh I just don't like these) :P
6) Strobing white/black (I am no fan of white frames/strobing... but strobing black for some reason is a-ok) :P
Is there some special version of premiere that movie studios buy that comes with 3 effects and the additive dissolve transition? :P Wait maybe that's my version of premiere hahaha... ;)
Oh yeah... I guess they use motion too.
"When all else fails, add some invert." Trust me... gold. That or explosions unrelated to the anime/story. Next time I download a video, it better have some a-team-car-hit-by-a-pebble->explosions video clips.
I am kidding about the invert, but not about the a-team explosions.

Lupin III
2003-02-14 18:02:54
I recently started watching my Lupin III first tv series dvds...
wow are they... ... well can you say dirty 70s?
So far everything has been outright ridiculous. Although Lupin is known
for not exactly sticking to reality... the first few episodes are really
stretching it.
I haven't entered anything into my journal in ages.
I have 3 videos completed for the NES project (or 99% completed ... in
case of minor fixes etc)
I just received an audio cd in the mail that should be useful in my next
editing project. I have a few seconds done and a lot more seconds to
finish on my new video. It should be fun to make and hopefully enjoyable
to watch. =) Wam bam action? Still no lyrics!? :P
One day I shall make a video with lyrics again... AWA masters maybe.
(I kind of vowed that after last years where almost all the videos were
orchestrated or at least it felt like it...) I think Motley Crue or some
Mega Deth is probably a guaranteed win at the AWA masters... don't you?
ô_ô
Happy editing/viewing all. ... and happy valentine's day.

AVS + Backup isn't gonna happen!
2003-01-05 11:55:58
Well, one of the wonderful benefits of using avs is that it should be really
easy to back up your entire project, since you really don't need the vobs
backed up... but of course with my NES project videos there is footage from
the games etc... and some other weird footage... so on average each
project minus the vobs is still about 4gb ... I don't think it's really worth
backing up... I'll probably just be very sure that the export is good
before I delete it (which won't occur until AFTER the premiere of the
project in case of any changes etc)
I just completed my 3rd NES project video a few days ago. I am looking
forward to... uhm... editing another video. No clue what video, though.
