JOURNAL: Keeper of Hellfire

  • 2007-05-28 12:59:35 Over Whitsun I was able to accomplish two things. I was at the biker party, and I was able to finish the job lists for the entire series. But before I can start making clips I have to do 2 more things - I have to complete The AviSynth scripts for the entire series, and I have to streamline the job lists and to check them for errors. But I don't think that will need that much time. I'll see what I can manage today.

The more progress I had with the job lists the more I became convinced that it is much too much footage for the projects that I plan. At least the project "sisters" I could part into 2 AMV, but it is the project with lesser footage. But project "love" I can't part despite it consists of 2 parts. But only the first part could be a full length AMV, the second part wouldn't make any sense if left alone.

At Saturday the "promised" thunderstorm didn't happen. That confirmed what I think - a weather forecast is only reliable if it is for the next 30 minutes. It did rain, mostly at night. But the important thing was- during our ride to the party we remained dry, and it was at the time the thunderstorm was promised.

Today happened something with the mains while I was working on the job lists. The PC went off immediately. But fortunately no file was corrupted, so no work was lost.
  • 2007-05-25 13:33:43 Meanwhile I'm with making at the point that I was with the old footage. Meanwhile I also have a script which works for the most parts. Beside DirectShowSource it only contains some spatial-temporal cleaning and a light sharpen. But there are some parts which have such heavy noise that I fear to loose all details if I try to clean it. Maybe I should try to avoid them. I'm not sure if that noise comes from the DVD's or if the raws are compressed too hard. And in some parts it looks as if the master tape got damaged -ok, it's meanwhile over 25 years old. Sometimes you can see at the upper or lower margin lines with missing information. At a TV set you'll probably not notice it because of the overscan. But at the computer you see it.

It depends on the weather if I'll make much progress at Whithsun - if it rains and gives thunderstorm like the forecast "promises", maybe I'll stay at home and work at my amv projects. But if the weather will be better, then I'm at a biker party. But maybe I go there even if it rains.

If I can manage to finish project "love" in time and it turns out like I want, then I'll enter it at an AMV contest at a German con.
  • And good news. 2007-05-23 14:21:06 After some discussion at the org's German sister site I have installed a new BitTorrent client. It works like charm - hey, I'm finished with downloading! I had some trouble watching the downloaded episodes, because nearly all of my programs can't deal with the Japanese characters in the file names - but finally I could resolve this. And it was worth all the trouble. Higher resolution. Brilliant colors. Much less noise. No color bleeding. No field blending. Much sharper. The AviSynth filtering will become much easier, I think I can use the settings from Noir, with the exception that I don't have to deal with interlacing.

Of course, that I have made my clips with VDM's job control is useless now. Not only that there are some differences in the points where the episodes start, but the old episodes were converted to 25 fps for some stupid reason, while the fresh ones are of course 29.97 fps. I have to start making clips from the scratch. And if I'm finished with the projects "love" and "sisters", I have to remaster "Fighting". Mirai deserves it. (And possibly it will rise my star rating. XD )
  • Bad news. 2007-05-18 14:00:22 It looks like the projects "love" and "sisters" get delayed. No, I didn't buy the bootlegs. I have found a torrent with raws taken from the DVD's. But the download speed is very low. The series is split into 2 parts, the "fastest" will finish in 21 days if the PC runs day and night, what's impossible because it stands in my sleeping room. I hope there will be times when it loads faster. I hope the quality is much better than the episodes I have. As remainder why I don't by the DVD's (I have posted it a while ago in my journal): It's only released in Japan on DVD, and the entire series would coast over 600 Euro (more than $750) including shipping, taxes and customs. That's simply to much, especially since it has no subs or dubs that I can understand. If I can get a licenced version for an acceptable price I'll buy the DVD's

So I'm thinking about starting another project. I still have the Blue Submarine No. 6 SE DVD's which I could use, but I have no idea what to do with it. An action AMV with all the battle scenes? Or a character profile about that special Mutio? And I have no idea what song to use, for either of those possible projects. That annoys me because in the moment I'm in the mood to make an AMV.

AIST, the company that made MoviePack, doesn't any longer sell or support it's products. That's bad, because so I have no chance to buy a plugin if I need it. My only chance to enhance the software would be to crossupdate to eXtreme, which is sold and supported by the mother company Cinegy. But that costs 800 Euro, so why I shouldn't switch to a different software? At least AIST will still generate licence keys, so if I change hardware and/or OS, I still can use MoviePack. As long as it fulfills my needs exists no reason to switch to a different software.
  • It's time. 2007-05-17 16:29:24 Today I have started making "clips". Actually they aren't physically at the harddrive, only at VDM's job control. I haven't finished the scrips yet, and believe me, there's much to do. The combination of VDM and AviSynth is a nice thing. You can select the clips while you work on the improvement of your filter chain. If you'd work in VDM solely, you had to have the final filter chain before you could add the clip to the job control. Sometimes I wonder what times I have noted, theres no significant footage at the noted time.

Today I have found the entire Queen Millenia series on DVD's, including the soundtrack that I'm desperately seeking, but crap, it's a bootleg. I don't support bootleggers, but despite I'm tempted to buy it - the chances are high that the quality is much better than my downloaded episodes, and then the soundtrack... It's on ebay. and it will end tomorrow (the 18th). If I'd decide to buy it it would delay my actual projects for the shipment time - that's the source I'm using, Queen Millenia (TV).

It's time that I finish a new project. the times between the releases of my first projects were 7 months (that A Life For A Dream and it's remake were released within two weeks doesn't count), but between the newer ones only 4 months (That Flash and Secret were released in the same month doesn't count either, because of the long time Secret was in work), and if I want to keep that distance I have to release one in May.
