JOURNAL: Keeper of Hellfire

  • Editing starts 2005-07-26 16:19:03 Toda I've made the last changes with GIMP. Right in time I figured out that I'd saved my edited files in the wrong frame rate. For some weird reason I'd saved them with 24.976 fps instead of 23.976. So I had the chance to correct it before it brought trouble.

After that was done I startet editing the AMV. And I nearly made it to the point where I kicked that project with the PAL DVD's and decided to make it new with NTSC DVD's. During editing I discovered two things: My style became a little bit faster, so I needed two additional clips to fill emerging gaps. And the slightly different lenght of the German and the US clips cause me trouble. I end up splits of a second too early, too less for an additional clip, but remarkable. I have to check out what the stretch tool can do for me.

I was surprised that during the whole time MovieXone didn't chrash. *Knocks on wood.* Sometimes I spent hours without any progress because MovieXone crashed if I only opened the folder with the clips or tried to drag a clip at the timeline or at the storyboard. And if MoviXone crashs, a reboot of the computer is necessary, otherwise it doesn't start again.
  • Corrections 2005-07-25 16:38:30 Monday is always a day when I have less time on my hands. At least I could correct the things I've found sunday. Now Mireille speaks with the correct speed, and also the additional drawing is done. GIMP still gives me some riddles, and as long I can't figure them out I have to mess with some workarounds, which means unnecessary work. I'm confident that within the next days I can finish the image processing and start to edit the vid.
  • Having some fun 2005-07-24 16:51:47 Friday was the last day I did something at my AMV. Again some good ideas helped me to reduce the amount of work to put in, but it's still enough.

A friend called me. He spends his holydays at his aunt, which lives near to me. He invited me to visit him, so that we can do a ride with our bikes. For that reason I had neither the time to continue the project nor to update the journal. It wa a nice time, I really enjoyed it.

Today I've checked the changes I've made. I must have mistakes in the notes that I made to reduce the number of frames to edit. In the resulting clip Mireille speaks to fast. So I have to check that again. In addition, I've to correct a little mistake I made.
  • Sleep is good 2005-07-21 15:59:37 At the night I got the right idea how to continue changing the frames with GIMP. Yesterday I've tried to redraw parts of the background which are covered by an object that I make smaller. While asleep I realized that I have frames where the background is visible - so I can do copy and paste. In addition I found out that the scene contains a repetition. Knowing that I was able to reduce the number of frames again. Instead originally 40 now only 10 remained, 5 of them already done yesterday. So I was able to finish that clip. If you watch it at normal speed, it doesn't look that bad, considering my drawing skills.

Today seems to be some kind of lucky day. I rewatched an episode of Noir to find the hint for the timeline which I always missed before. Not only that I found that hint, I found also the evidence for something I knew but never could proof in discussions. :-)
  • Step by step 2005-07-20 15:54:08 Seems like I get more familiar with GIMP. Today I've managed to change 5 frames. After that I lost the concentration. If I continue with that "speed" I need a week for that clip. Fortunatly it's the one with the most changes. Maybe if the weekend is rainy like it's now, I can do a little bit more, possibly start to edit the vid. Sometimes I ask myself if it's worth to make the changes because

    a) they are so small that the vast majority probably wouldn't see it if not pointed to it.
    b) my drawing skills suck so that with a closer look you'll see its wrong.

But I think without these changes the vid wouldn't be right. So I have to do it, even if it's only for myself.
