Who doesn't listen...
2005-08-23 16:32:26
...has to take the consequences. A while ago my colleague asked me how to get my AMV's. I showed him, but I told him not to download and to watch as long as he isn't finished with Noir cause they have spoilers. He did it despite and told me today that I was right, that a part of the thrill is lost.
He gave me the versions of the song for project secret, including several remixes of the cover version. I listened to it, and right, the voice of the cover version fits better my concept. But for one strange reason they dropped a line of the lyrics which is important to me. Now I still have to think about what's to do.
That was the only thing I did for my project today. I played around a little bit with the AIST transition compiler. I compiled their sample project and testet the new made transitions. While doing this I figured out that the transitions have settings and played around with this. After doing that I made my first own transitions. They worked, but a litlle bit different than I thought. But it's a nice feature.
The votes in ScoobsNet contest for round 3 started, and like I expected, "Episode#25" got 2 votes against it. Considering on what was judged, it was the only correct decision. I had voted the same.

Restart.

I had not much time on my hands, so I ripped only 3 episodes for project "Secret". I asked a colleague, from which I know he has a hughe load of mp3, if he can look for the two versions of the song. If he finds them, I can decide which one to bye for the use in my project.
For my editing software I made a decision. In a German board about digital video editing I found a hint to a company which sells older versions of a software for low prices. How could I forget about them? They have MovieDV 4.0, which has a higher level than MovieXone, in two versions: for 9.90 € and in combination with a Firewire card for 19.90 €. I ordered the last one, 'cause my PC has no Firewire. In the moment I have no Firewire device, but who knows. In addition, the price difference isn't 10 €, it's only 7.50 €. For oders under 17.50 € they take 2.50 € additional handling fee.
Next round in ScoobsNet contest started. It's beat synching. I know I suck at this, so I'm prepared to say "Bye, bye"

A rebound.

Today I wanted to continue making clips for project "Secret". But only 1 GB HD space was left. So I decided to do what I wanted to do since a while - get rid of my Linux partition, which occupied 12 GB. It cost me a while to figure out how to do this. After successfully converting the Linux partition into a NTFS partition I moved project "Secret" into this new partition. For dinner I switched of my PC. After switching it on again it didn't boot. Leftovers of the Linux bootmanager, residing in the MBR, stoppped the boot process, and left me no choice to continue with Win2K. Several attempts to get it work failed. In the end, the only way to get Win2k work again was to reinstall Linux. I was able to limit it's size to 1 GB instead 12 GB, but all data in this partition was lost. So I have to start with this project again.

Heureka!

While watching TV yesterday I got the idea which song perfectly fits project "Secret". After getting that idea I remembered that I had the idea to use that song in the past, but for a slightly different AMV. From this song exists an original and (a) cover version(s). Normaly I prefer the original ones, but in this case I'll probably decide for a cover version. A female voice fits my idea better than a male one. The bad is, for none of the versions I have a CD. I hope, after I decided, I can get them on CD, since both versions aren't that fresh.
I tried several settings for IVTC in VDM, none of them could completly erase the interlacing. So I have in addition to IVTC also to deinterlace.
In ScoobsNet contest "Episode#25" made it in the next round. It wasn't that surprising, since the decision was done judging on visual and audio quality, and in comedy/fun category was one vid with horrible visual quality. Let's see on what will be judged in next round. But compared with the remaining vids, I doubt it will survive next round.

Started...

... to work on project "Secret". It's a wierd situation, and I wonder if other editors stuck in such situation too. Some days ago I had a clear imagination what song to use, which scenes and what effects to use. Now only the scenes remained. So I ripped the first 3 episodes and started to make clips.
While trying this I made strange experiences with VDM. It's the first time I apply no filters while making clips. For my other vids I did resize and some more filtering. This time I will only IVTC the source. So I selected fast recompress, choosed 3:2 Pulldown removal, compression HuffYUV and saved. After I'd done the clips for the first episode, I'd checked them and they were still interlaced. I checked the frame rate - still 29.97. I selected normal recompress. First, I was surprised be the filesize. It was 128 MB large, compared with the 74 MB of the file from fast recompress. So is there information loss with fast recompress? And it wasn't IVTC'ed too. Only full recompress did the job. But there still remained some interlaced frames. Have to play with the settings.
For the song I still check my CD's. If I don't find a matching one I'll probably ask in the suggestion forum.
From the US-company still no answer regarding MovieXone. Looks like I have to pay the full price AIST wants. :(
