JOURNAL: Keeper of Hellfire

  • WTF? 2005-08-30 16:52:59 My tests with AviSynth and VDM continue. Today I have found that if I frameserve with AviSynth, I get a framerate of 25 fps, while the source has 29.97. And MPEGSource doesn't accept a framerate parameter. :? At the moment I get only good results if I use VDM for IVTC and the area based deinterlacer with blend fields option. Of course, it causes some ghostet frames. But in most cases this will make motions look more smooth. And if it's necessary, I can export the clip as images and replace the frame in question by it's predecessor or it's successor.

Yesterday was a good start for the week. I brought my bike to the garage for some minor repairs, and they gave me as replacement my actual dream bike - the Yamaha MT-01. It's incredible, hard to describe. If it's from interest for you, look at this site: http://www.yamaha-mt-world.com/
  • No Results. 2005-08-28 16:06:07 This weekend I spent riding my bike. So it wasn't much what I could try with AviSynth. But whatever I tried, the results looked bad compared with what I get from VDM.
  • Why the hell... 2005-08-26 16:23:54 ... all the people swear on AviSynth. It slows down the video processing, and from what I have tested today for IVTC the result looks like crap compared from what I get if I use VirtualDubMod. Shaggy lines, color errors, and so on. And scripts can I get from VDM too, and without the need of writing them by myself.

I'll try more tomorrow, to find out if can get better results from it. Or if the people use it only because it's described in A&E's guide and they follow them as if it were godly order. I have my doubts that the results will become much better. The heavy filtering in the most AVS-scripts posted in the forum and recommended in the guides too must have a reason.

At least I can say, this time I could install AviSynth without that it broke my video playback. And I got it work, while I last time only got error messages.
  • 2005-08-25 16:29:10 Still figuring out the interlacing. Mostly it's like I told yesterday, but some parts show a different scheme, for e.g. 4P 1I 6P 1I. I think it's the same scheme at all, it depends on how many frames are different in the specific scene. I read a little bit in the AviSynth manual. Tomorrow I'll try, I think it can help me overcome the interlacing problems.
  • No Motivation. 2005-08-24 16:55:22 Today I had no motivation to work on project "Secret". So I posted at some boards. Later I played around with compression. In the end I did something for project secret, I analyzed the footoge to figure out why IVTC doesn't deinterlace. The interlacing seems to follow a pattern: 3P 1I 10P 1I. Needs further analyzing. Maybe I have to switch to AviSynth.

Two judges on ScoobsNet Contest wrote something about "Episode#25" that made me wonder:" it doesn't hit any...beat". That sounds as if the have the same problems like me if I playback with WMP. It completly de-syncs. That's why I played with compressing. Despite, the competition is better beat synced.
