Playing around.

MovieDV 4.0 has much more capabilities then it's written on the box. It tells about 4 video tracks, but you have 6 compositing tracks and the A/B editing track. It's delivered with it 3 sample projects which are really impressing. In the moment I take a look at them to find out how it's done. Fortunatly the look and feel is exact the same as in MovieXone, so I have basic knowledge. Meanwhile I've changed the color scheme to something more convinient.

Surprise.

I'll never use the word snail mail again. Yesterday I got per email the confirmation that MoveiDV is shipped, today I could hold it in my hands! :D The Firewire card delivered with it installed without any problems. Simply put it in, and it was recognized, without any further installation or configuration. I hope it works, since at the moment I have no Firewire device. I installed MovieDV too, but had not much time to test it. It has the same look and feel like MovieXone, but the color scheme is different and ugly. I have to change it. From the functionality it's more comparable to the actual MovieXone Plus than the actual MovieDV, so I'm really thinking about an update. On the other hand, do I really need additional functionality?

For project "Secret" I made the Clips from the next episode.
It's around 1 1/1 week ago that I ordered MovieDV 4.0. Today I got the email that they ship it. So I will receive it probably Monday or Tuesday. Even if it's late, it's right in time for project secret. If the weather continues being fine, there will be not much progress at the weekend.

I got it!

I played around with deinterlacing, in AviSynth and VDM. None of the results really satisfied me - until I noticed one thing. Out of despair I repeated one test I had made before. First time I didn't frameserve with AVS to VDM, this time I did. And I was surprised. The result was worse than the older one. So frameserving with AVS screwed up the results of the VDM filtering. I repeated my VDM tests now without frameserving, and with one of the settings: Bingo! I got pretty clean clips. No ghosting, no deplaced colors, no scanlines. I made clips from the first episode, so project secret has at least some progress.
With the song I still don't know which version to use. There's a weird parallel to my first AMV: The song touches me, so I often get tears into my eyes if I listen to it. Sometimes I think I must be insane to do that a second time to me.

Still dealing with the deinterlacing. AviSynth has so many options and so many different filters, but none of them got results which satisfy me. One of them produced a pure black clip, another caused a stack overflow. I'll continue trying.
Today I voted voted in the ScoobsNet Minicontest of the judges. It was hard, because the AMV are at the same level.
