JOURNAL: Keeper of Hellfire

  • Straight 10's! 2005-09-27 16:41:22 At the weekend I got an op with straight 10's! I don't know how to deal with it. It's not a simple "That vid rocks!". It explains the feelings of the viewer. But the vid definitly doesn't deserve straight 10's. It's my first vid, and I know it's technical flaws. I don't know how to answer. I would appreciate if the reviewer would at least lower some of the technical marks, but have no idea how to formulate it in my respond. This op adds to a strange tendency I discovered - my first vid, which I personally see as my worst - gets the highest rating. :?

In the moment I have some kind of crerative block, so nothing happened to project "Secret". I gambled a little bit around with some technical possibilies. Changed the pitch of the music I want to use - with a wierd result. At the one hand I smiled, because it sounded that wierd, like they are on Helium. At the other it still made me feel sad, so that I had tears in my eyes. And another strange thing I discovered - applying of VDM filters seem to make the vid look colder.
  • 2005-09-21 16:06:03 Last days I hadn't that much time on my hands, so not that much happened. The clips for project "Secret" are at 90%. During making this project I'm still learning AMV-(or more generell: digital video) related things. One of these things is MPEG2-Compression, since MovieDV offers this possibility and I want to give my vid's in the future to con's which request it. But neither with MovieDV nor with the DVD-authoring tool which was as add-on in the package I got satisfiying results.

So I looked around and found 2 freeware encoders. Both accept AviSynth input. The first one, QEnc, brought only slightly better results. With adding smoothers in the AVS-script I could improve the quality slightly, but it still wasn't satisfying. Today I tested the other one - simply called "HC" - and tadaa, I got the quality I was looking for, even without additional filtering.

Around one month ago I submitted "Noir-Episode#25" to a free op's thread. 'til now I didn't recieve the promised op. Maybe I PM him/her.
  • Update. 2005-09-11 15:55:58 All episodes ripped for project "Secret". Clips made between 70 and 80 percent. For the song choice I eliminated 3 of 6 so far. Now as it is starting to become serious because I'll finish making clips within the next days, I get some ideas about the concept too. I'll keep something from the original concept, but will add some different things to it.
  • 2005-09-07 16:11:23 Project "Secret":

2 more episodes ripped and made clips.
  • Learning 2005-09-06 16:13:12 I learn to use the new possibilities that offers MovieDV compared with MovieXone. Even if it looks similar, theres much more you can do with it. Reading the manual wakes the desire to get addittional effects, which are described, but not included.

I decided to continue making clips while learning to work with MovieDV, so the next episode is done. But there are still a couple to do. In a rough estimation, 30 percent of the clips are made.
