Spirits high.

Project "Secret" makes good progress now. I think one more weekend and it'll be done. But that weekend will not be next weekend. Next weekend I take part at a German online Hentai Iron Chef. It's called "Hot Coffee" and my first IC at all. The IC will be an interesting experience.
While working at project "Secret" I am learning more and more about MovieDV, can use it better and better. And I must realize that most the things I do now also could have been done with MovieXone.
The upgrade of my computer is finished. The final specs you can read in my profile.

Milestone reached

Today I could finish the alpha version of project "Secret". After exporting it I found some synching issues. I'm pretty sure it was synched as I edited. I have the suspecion that MovieDV sometimes messes up the project file. If it's a problem of all MovieX products? Beside the fact that MovieXone played the audio in the preview with the wrong speed, I had sometimes the impression that the cuts had been displaced.
It seems to be a good day. I was able to win the bit for a HDD at ebay to a price I wanted. So my future projects will not suffer the space problems like this one. Maybe even project "Secret" can still take advantage from it.

Gremlin infestation?

That's what I think Project "Secret" has. Saturday I made an export for testing, and I had to see that the clips of the final episode were still in YUV color space. So I ripped the episode again and ran the jobs to create the clips. It lasted over an hour. Then I deleted the episode, ran a defragmentation and startet editing. And I didn't believe my eyes. I had ripped the wrong episode! So the cycle started again. All over all it took more than 3 hours. In the remaining time I could edit 'til 3:10.
Today I felt like stupid. I asked myself: Why the hell did I delete the YUV clips, ripped the episodes again and let the jobs with AviSynth Filters run to get the clips in RGB color space? Why didn't I simply convert the clips between the color spaces? I could have saved much time that way! And why didn't I get that idea earlier? Ok, so for the next time I know - but a conversion of the clips will never be necessary, because I know about the problem with YUV clips and will always create them as RGB. Or better, if I finally can get a cheap second harddrive, I don't have to do clips again.
I made again a test export. This time I felt it is too slow, so I decided to cut the music. Maximum length will be 2:24, maybe shorter. I used the day to cut down all what already was done. And I was able to edit a little bit more. Meanwhile a get a feeling for the beat. The alpha version is now around 2:09. I think I can finish it within this week and start with applying effects.

What to do?
2005-11-23 16:40:29
For the part where I'm short of clips I tried to edit the music. I had no luck. It sounds repetitive but it isn't. There are slight changes so that it is impossible to cut a piece out without being remarkable. Then I got an idea what to do. A different use of the planned effect would cover it perfect. So I did continue and have reached around 3 minutes. But the longer I edit, the more I get the feeling that the second half of the vid gets too slow and possibly boring. So I'm really thinking about my original idea, to cut the song somwhere between 2:00 and 2:24. This means I have to go through all parts again and to see which I can make shorter.

Still much to do.

The alpha version of project secret is around 2:30 from nearly 4 minutes. I wonder why it develops so slow. And I encountered a problem: while I have too much clips for the most sections of the song, for two of them I had too less. For one I could solve it by ripping the episode again and making some more clips. For the other I didn't find clips which would add some variety. The clips I have fill exactly the gap, so I have no chance to set cuts according to the music. In the moment I see only two possible solutions - to cover the syncing problems with effects or to cut the music. It is possible because it is an instrumental part.
MovieDV takes advantage from the RAM upgrade. It looks like it is adaptive and never uses the whole available ram. With 512 MB I had a use of 400...450 MB, now with 1 GB it is 800...900 MB.
The upgrade plans for my PC suffered a setback. My car got broke. Repair, towing and replacement car cost around 650€. That's a pity, because I experience how good it would be to keep all necessary episodes while working on a project.
