Queen Millenia TV still isn't confirmed anime. Today I posted it in the site help forum, hope it'll be confirmed soon so that I can upload it. I find it somehow annoying, especially since the video entry already got some hits.
Today I started my next project. It's one that I'd planned some months ago but forgot about it - the standalone version of my Freddy Mercury MEP segment. I'm sure it can be done very fast since a good part - the MEP segment - is already finished. A major part of the remaining song doesn't need fast cuts and beat synch. I think I can finish it before the Freddy Mercury MEP is released, so I'm not sure when to release it. Normally it would be better to release it a couple of days after the MEP Project. But since Queen Millienia (Movie) isn't confirmed anime either it could avoid confirmation issues if the stand alone version is released some days before the MEP. -

My Queen Millenia AMV is finally finished. I already made the entry, but can't upload it because it's unconfirmed anime and has to wait until confirmation. Hope it will be soon. If someone who knows wonders: Yes, Queen Millenia was already in the database, but I want it as Queen Millenia (TV) because it also exist a movie which hasn't much in common with the series. With the Freddy Mercury MEP I'll have the same problem because I used the movie for it.
This time isn't much to say about the making of. All what happened was written down in the journal. The only thing which isn't provided in my journal or in the video description is about the source. It's a DivX-compressed rip from the Japanese laser discs. Yes, you read right. That media what hadn't that much success in the 80's. So the deinterlacing was done by someone else. It is 512 x 384 like my AMV. And the frame rate was converted from the 29,97 fps NTSC to the 25 fps PAL. I have no idea why they did this. Probably they hoped it would better synch with the German dub which they took from VHS recordings. But they failed horribly. So there's much field blending in it. And it is very grainy. So I had to chose a data rate which is very high for such small size video to make it not look too bad. I'd like to have much better footage, but the only DVD release is the Japanese from last year which is too expensive (including tax and customs around 600 Euros, what is over $750). Especially since it's in Japanese language only and so from no other use for me than AMV making.
While watching an AMV today I figured out how to solve a problem that I have with two future projects for Queen Millenia. I came up with only one song for both projects because it's the only one that I know which has the necessary change in the mood for both projects. The AMV used more than one song, and that's the way to go for the second project. In addition it helps to overcome the problem that the song has too strong implications of romantic love for the second project. -

I've found the first replacment effect and I think it comes out good for the intended parts. The bad is - it's an on/off effect which can't be keyframed. That means, for every beat I want to use it I have to make two cuts. I was always wondering why the editing looks good for the most parts in the preview window but the effects aren't noticeable in the exported version. Today I noticed that the preview window is scaled to 160%. That large the effect looks ok, in original size it isn't remarkable. I have to chose one more effect for the footage where the first replacement won't work.
Today I finished watching Queen Millenia. Great, simply great. During the last episodes I found a flaw. Get me right, I don't mind that much scientific nonsense is in it. Partly it's some kind of Fantasy. But that's against any logic. The crown of Queen Millenia gives her supernatural powers. She received the crown from her mother, who knows about the power of the crown. As she gets imprisoned by her mother, neither the mother takes the crown away nor does she use it to break out of jail. That's simply stupid. -

... on my Noir/QM AMV. The footage is cleaned up. I've added two effects from which I never thought that they work on anime. But it works, at least at parts. One of the effects, while looking on some parts of the footage really good, is not noticeable or looks weird at other parts. In the moment I'm tweaking the timing and think over what effects to use as replacement.
The download of Queen Millenia is completed. It was much faster than I expected. And I'm nearly through with rewatching it. Only 6 episodes to go. Incredible. It's 14 years ago that I watched it the last time, and while watching it I remember many details so that I know what will happen in the next scene. And with every episode it proves why it is one of my top favourite anime. One of my next AMV projects will again be a QM AMV with Noir BGM. It fits wo well. -

... I made a decision regarding the Noir/QM AMV. I'll add effects, but in tthe moment I have no idea which. I think I'll experiment a bit. And I have to do a little bit more cleanup work.
I'm still downloading the QM episodes. In the moment I'm stuck. Episodes 25 'til 30 aren't available as torrents. That doesn't mean they aren't available at all. I've found them in the eDonkey network. But downloading from there is horrible. The download for 1 episode needs more time than 6 episodes with BitTorrent. And the upload/download ratio is worse either. In the actual case it was more than 5:1. That way I'll need weeks to download them all.
