Back from Katsu. Woot!
AMV contest = disappointing. I'd already seen a good third of the videos at other cons and didn't really like them enough then to want to see them again. Am I the only one this bugs? It's to a point if I've seen it before at a con, I won't vote for it no matter HOW well-done it is. (Yes, Key to her Memories, I am looking at you)
Happily, all the winners were certainly worthy, even if only one was personally the best to my taste. So glad to see New York's Lament and DeJa Rah get well-deserved recognition from the judges.
I'm starting to think the entire action category at any given con needs a flashes and crazy motion warning though. Cripes. It's getting to the point that category edges out romance as my least favorite. And that's sad.
In site news, I've goten on another kick and downloaded a whole bunch of one creator's AMVs last night. I shall have to pick one or two to leave ops for. They're good, and nice and simple, which I appreciate more and more.

Well, the Eminence video thing is coming out... better than I expected actually, though I really need to ask on the forums how to obliterate that speckledy dot crawl thing that seems to be going on. The footage didn't come out nearly as nice in Premiere as it looked in DVD2AVI - a problem I've never really had before and I'm not sure my three-plus-year-old AMV-making setup is equipped to handle well. I may need to refresh myself on the guide and try some new codecs and stuff to clean it up.
On the plus side, it was my first time ripping game footage and it went off almost without a hitch.
Still no further on any of my others. It all got kinda put on hold since the deadline's Feb. 19 for a beta. It will happen eventually - I WILL Catch up on all the crap I needa get done.
Heh, right.
Plus, to whoever it was that left the QC on "This Road," thanks very much.

MEP madness
2007-01-28 15:09:55
Wow, I forgot how much my SOAD MEP section sucked. The good news was, the overall project was lacking a certain... I dunno, something. It was generally well-timed and good anime to the right songs, but I watched it through once and tossed it. The opening and the two sections bookending my own were my favorites, but not enough to want to keep it. Maybe I should have redone my section again, but the initial version I turned in - which was then changed several times - was the third or fourth complete redo. I was sick of that section and it showed.
Also, I was coming off the Dir En Gray MEP, and I loved - and still love! - both sections for that. My bit for the Nightwish one is okay - no cringing at watching it, at least. I'm excited to get working on the Magical Girl bit though - I'm kind of in awe of some of the creators in that and am quite excited to have my work in the same deal as theirs.

Well. It appears January will be my best month ever as far as number of downloads, so that's kinda cool.
I still don't get why the Nightwish video is up over a 4. As far as crisp editing goes, it's really not the best example. I can't even watch it now without wincing at all the errors. I guess I shouldn't complain, but it just seems odd to me.
Also odd? Redoing my first-ever AMV. It's a lot crisper, but some how it just doesn't look right in even quality. I miss the passes from sharp to washed out and grainy. *sigh* Maybe I'll abandon that one.
The other item currently in progress on my computer is the third in my set of three videos to overused songs. It's also my second real foray into the "fum" category. The first was way back when I first figured out how to get footage from DVDs using FLASK. Oi, what a mess.

You lucky people

It seems another side effect of the new year is my feeling an urge to share lots of crap no one cares about. :) You lucky people.
My Nightwish MEP section has been accepted, which came as a surprise to me. I mean, I'm happy with it, but I've met with a need to redo parts of both the System of a Down section and the two I did for the Dir En Gray MEP so I expected to get some suggestions on changes, but it was accepted. Woot! Means I can get those files off my computer.
Also off my computer are the X files (heh) I'd had for my Satsuki profile. That video is now up on the Org for download, and I have to admit, it's getting a LOT better feedback than I was expecting. I wish I was getting a few more quick comments, but it's already been downloaded half as many times as my last video, and that's in just three days. It's also hovering just under a 4 for the star average. Considering I uploaded a lower-resolution version to save space, I am... surprised.
It's about time to donate again. Next paycheck, I think. Maybe I can up it to $200 this time. Lord knows I pay more than that for things I use which give me less entertainment and pleasure. :)
Happy Wednesday all.
