JOURNAL: Captain Spadaro (Michael Spadaro)

  • LOL at my lack of updates (again) 2007-09-20 15:05:26 Captain's log, stardate 2007.263: The Infiniti's check engine light turned off today when I left JJC after my Sociology class; I give it a week before it turns itself back on with the same code as last time.

On Tuesday, I filled out an application at the new Target opening up on Weber road. To be honest, though, I doubt I'll get hired there. I'm not exactly a people person.
  • August plans 2007-07-30 04:17:25 Captain's log, stardate 2007.211: Well, I know what August is going to be like, for the most part. On August 11th, my mother, sister, and myself will be driving out to Baltimore, Maryland, to help my sister get settled in her apartment there, with my dad joining us a few days later. On August 19th, we (my dad, mom, and myself) will leave Baltimore and return to Plainfield, most likely arriving in the wee hours of the morning on August 20th. That will leave me less than 24 hours to rest in preparation for August 21st, when I start my third semester at JJC. The reason I have go with to Baltimore is because I will have to help put together furniture, move boxes, and the like. My mother has bad knees, so she won't be able to do much of anything while we are there.

The month of July has been a relatively quiet one for me, aside from going to my cousin's wedding on Saturday. I tried to have fun, but weddings just aren't my thing. What made the trip worthwhile (for me, anyway), though, was that on the way there, I saw a red Ferrari F430 coupe on Lake Shore Drive, and, on the way home, I saw a red Ferrari 360 Modena Spyder.
  • LOL at my lack of updates 2007-06-22 19:10:34 Captain's log, stardate 2007.173: Well, summer has officially begun, and so far, it's been pretty boring for me. My manual transmissions class ended yesterday, but it'll be a few days before I know my grade in the class.

On May 19th, we (my mom, my sister, and myself) drove down to St. Louis to pick up my sister's computer, which was being held for her by a friend she made in college. However, on the way down there, I was pulled over for doing 85 in a 65 zone. I was given a ticket and my license given to the officer who pulled me over so that I could continue driving (or something like that; don't remember the exact details). Anyway, the ticket was paid a few days ago, so now I'm waiting for my license to be returned via the mail. The reason I'm noting this is because until I get my license back, I can't go for a job interview.
  • Acen 2007 report 2007-05-14 01:05:14 Captain's log, stardate 2007.134: Well, another Acen has come and gone. This year was okay, but it had some things working against it:
    * the group I was staying with had to switch to another hotel
    * I got sick and spent most of Saturday laid up in our hotel room
    * the distressing reports of friction between other group members (as reported by the little green dudes who were staying in the other room)
    * the fire alarms at the Hyatt kept going off (people smoking in a non-smoking building)

However, one of the things that made it all worthwhile was that I got my picture taken with a girl cosplaying as Asuka. She was real cute, too, with black horn-rimmed glasses; too bad I didn't get her name or number. She also told me that I wasn't the only one dressed as Shinji Ikari, which made me feel a lot better. I was also heartened to see Star Trek merchandise at 3 booths (in 2 cases, they were Furuta toy ships). I also saw the usual mix of funny t-shirts and oddball products.
  • That wasn't fun 2007-04-28 03:02:47 Captain's log, stardate 2007.118: Yesterday was an interesting day at the shop. Keith and I finished our first car (a 98 Ford Crown Victoria) in under 2 hours, despite the gasoline fumes coming from another car making us both a little woozy.

Our next car didn't go nearly as smoothly. A 1996 Dodge Neon, it was in for a coolant leak and an oil leak, but those weren't the only things we found. We also discovered:
*the front brake rotors were scored on the inboard sides
*the brake lines going to the rear were rusted
*all 4 tires were severely worn (the left rear was down to the cords on one side, thanks to rubbing on something)
    *the oil was overfilled
*the gas gauge wasn't reading properly
We traced the oil leak to the valve cover gasket, and in the process of tightening the valve cover bolts down, one of them broke. We ended up taking the valve cover off and cleaning it, along with the gasket, before super gluing the gasket to the valve cover, as it was in decent shape. In the process of reinstalling the ignition coil, I think I broke one of the bolts mounting it to the valve cover.

As far as the coolant leak, we traced it to the thermostat housing, and, in order to remove it, we had to drain some of the coolant out. I'm noting this because Keith guessed (correctly, I might add) that the cooling system had been filled filled with straight anti-freeze, meaning all we had to add to it once we intalled the new thermostat was water.

I think some of my classmates lost a little bit of respect for me today, though.
