JOURNAL: Captain Spadaro (Michael Spadaro)

  • Web comics and a death in the family 2006-06-27 15:33:41 Captain's log, stardate 2006.178: Thanks to somebody in the shoutbox on deviantART, I have discovered a web comic called Ctrl+Alt+Del, located here: http://www.ctrlaltdel-online.com/index.php . It is INSANELY funny. I haven't laughed that hard in a LONG time. In fact, I'm still reading the old strips.

However, I make this log entry on a somber note, as I just learned that my dad's mother passed away. She lived in Connecticut, the state where my dad was born. My dad and my mom are apparently going to go up there later this week, most likely to settle her estate, make funeral arrangements, etc. I'm not sure if I'll go with them. If I have to, I will, but if not......I dunno.

Godspeed, grandmother. May you rest in peace.
  • bittersweet anniversary 2006-06-21 13:34:36 Captain's log, stardate 2006.172: On this date, one year ago, I lost a friendship, a friendship that I treasured very dearly. To this day I regret my actions that caused this friendship to end, and most likely will regret them to the day I die. I want nothing more than forgiveness, and a return to how things were before.
  • reflections 2006-06-15 14:38:06 Captain's log, stardate 2006.166: I had to drop off the water bill at city hall after I got done with my English 101 class today, and I decided to take the "scenic" route to get there. That route took me past PSHS, and I got to thinking about the school year recently completed. I had maintained that I didn't have any real strong feelings about it, unlike the year previous, which truly DID feel like the "end of an era", but, now, in hindsight, I think I was wrong. This year was the end of an era too, in its own way. I made friends this year, friends who I probably wouldn't have met had I graduated on time. As I look back on my time at South, I realize that it wasn't all that bad, not as bad as it was at Plainfield Central, anyway. The good and bad kind of balanced each other out. It'll be real different when August nears its end, and I don't have to go to school every day.
  • world events and stuff, plus social commentary 2006-06-08 18:44:42 Captain's log, stardate 2006.159: I was hanging out in the shoutbox on deviantART early this morning, having stayed up all night, when someone said that al-Zarqawi had been killed. At first, I thought was a joke, but that person provided a link to the story on MSNBC. I couldn't believe it. He's dead. May he burn in Hell. Later, I was watching the Fox News Channel and they played video of some Iraqis dancing in the streets in celebration. This probably won't mean the end of the insurgency in Iraq, though. These terrorists are like the Hydra: cut one head off, two more grow back. Oh well. Less stupidity in the gene pool, I guess.

Those last few sentences may sound racist and/or ignorant, but they are not intended as such. I know Islam doesn't condone what they are doing, but try telling THEM that. I've said it before, and I'll say it again: if there IS going to be a 3rd World War, it'll probably start in the Middle East. It goes to show how religious fundamentalism in ANY form, be it Islamic terrorists or the Catholic Church, is dangerous. I'm all for having faith, but let's TRY to be realistic.
  • I missed something, didn't I? 2006-06-06 18:18:56 Captain's log, stardate 2006.157: For the last couple of days, I've had this feeling that something big/bad may have happened either last week or over the weekend. This came after reading the Xanga's of some of my friends. I know it doesn't involve me, but I want to help in any way that I can. I sent an email to Bombay, but she hasn't replied as yet. I hate being left out of the loop.
