JOURNAL: Anime Jedi

  • Six performances later... 2004-05-30 00:40:08 This has been a tiring week. 3 days of the exact same thing over and over again. I wake up early (6:00am), walk to school, do makeup for the charactes in Oliver until 11:30am, go to classes, get home for an hour or two, and head back around 6:00pm only to return home at midnight. It was funny how I noticed I hadn't really seen my parents in days since I left before they were awake, got home when they were in bed, and I only saw my brother after school.

But it was a blast. I have to admit that I loved being there early, and sticking around late. All of the makeup artists were always together, so I got to know the other girls pretty well. They're all two years younger, so they knew my brother, but that change anything.

I started to grow a crush on that girl who mistook me as a ninth grader. Unfortunately it's been kinda weird. I don't get much time to talk to her since we're both always running around, and half the time I'm busy doing someone else's makeup instead of doing hers. She's totally different from most of the girls I liked. She's cute, but it's like she has a very fiery attitude, because all of a sudden she could be sour. Then again, we all like to play with fire. [Sigh] That, and she really does have a beautiful smile.

There was a could of things that hurt by the end unfortunately. One was not being able to watch the show live. I went to six performaces, and never saw the whole thing. Scratch that, I only ever saw one song live. By the end of it, our teacher (superviser sp?) practically made us watch at least some part of it live. We were worried about not being around, but she assured no one need anymore makeup for the rest of the night. I was able to catch the parts where Mr. Bumble argues with his wife, this old lady dies after giving up her locket, and Bill Sykes being shot. However instead of being happy to actually see it, I got really sad and depressed because now I realised what it was that I was missing. For a second I thought I was going to cry, but I was able to suck it up.

The other was realizing how thankless makeup really is. Ok, some people complimented us during the performaces, but there wasn't much else except for the odd thanks at the end. I guess I just felt left out. At the after party, everyone was getting long speechs of compliments for all of their hard work, but for use they only said "Oh ya, and let's be sure ot thank makeup". I'm not trying to sound stuck up or anything, but I really do feel unappreciated.
This is where I'm supposed to remind myself that people do good deeds not for themselves, or even for the thanks (reward), but for those whom they did it for. Why is it so hard to take your own advice? I'm guessing one of the reasons why I'm depressed it because I missed a lot of things, and sacrficed quite a bit, for what seems to be nothing. Selfish? I have to agree with you, it really is. Give me a few days, maybe by then I'll rid myself of this funk.

This has been a pretty long Journal about my experiences with the Oliver play. But it played a huge role in my past few days, so why not? lol

  • Oliver (the play)... 2004-05-27 00:06:53 I had to edit this entry a few times because it was getting a bit lenghty. Just thought I'd let you know since I took out a lot of meaningless detail.

Let's take it from the beginning. Our school is putting on a little play, Oliver. A popular story, but challenging nonetheless. I'm part of the Art Council, so I get to apply all the makeup for the actors. Makeup?!?! There's a first time for everything. ~_^ Anyways, we're there early, and stick around late. But the busiest part is during the play. Everyone plays practically 4 very different roles, so its a constant exchange of cleaning off makeup, and applying something totally different. And to think, within all this time, I don't even get a chance to watch the show!!!

But it's definitely loads of fun. The makeup crew and myself (we're all apart of Art Council) are getting along great and simply have a blast, which is a necessity, since we still have two more morning and two night performances from now until Friday night. o_0

Here's something fun, I was mistaken for a grade 9 student today at the beginning of rehearsal. lol This girl (grade 11) whom I've met a few times before, yet see around school all the time, came up to me and said "You know what I just realized, you're in grade 9 aren't you?". I replied "Ummm... Actually I'm in grade 12". I was really caught off guard, so I wasn't given the opportunity to think of a more subtle way of correcting her. See seemed speechless. I wasn't really embarrassed, but my natural reflex was that my face went red. She apologized for making the mistake, and for making me turn red. When she left, all my friends who were present at the time started laughing a bit with me. Not at her of course, but about the fact that I'm still mistaken for someone so young. A year younger? All the time. Two years younger? Definitely. Three years younger? That's kinda pushing it. lol Anyways, it was safe to say that since we're both apart of Oliver, we saw eachother quite often, and let's just say it was a bit awkward. But we got over it, and by the end of the night, I think we've pushed it all behind us. Which is something I'm really glad about, because she's definitely cute, and has one of the sweetest smiles I've ever seen. ^_^

  • Victoria Day holiday... 2004-05-24 17:36:15 I was supposed to get together with a bunch of friends and watch all the anime we had bought at Anime North, but they cancelled. No big loss I suppose, since that meant I could watch some more Chobits. This anime is shapping up to be one of my favourites.

Well, I spent a lot of money this weekend. Here's a nice list of all the things I bought:
    -Art book of "Only Yesterday"
-Art book of "Iron Maiden" (Evangelion video game)
    -Chobits DVD set
    -Manga of FLCL vol. 2
    -Manga of Evangelion vol. 8
The following were won at an auction:
    -Manga of Parasyte vol. 10
    -Manga of X/1999 Prelude
-Manga of Oh My Goddess! vol. 15
-Manga of Sorcerer Hunters vol. 8
-Manga of Magic Knight Rayearth vol. 2
-Manga of Comic Party vol. 1
    -"Come out Squirtle" children's book
    -A comic book t-shirt
-A poster signed by Richard Cox, Moneca Stori, Michael Dobson and Brian Drummond
-A picture signed by David Kaye

    I think that's it. ^_^'

This is one of the first times I've ever been strapped for cash. I guess this only proves I always mimic whatever anime character is currently influencing my life, aka Hideki Motosuwa. -_-

  • Anime North... 2004-05-23 00:54:37 Today was day 2 of Anime North.

I went with 5 other friends, and it's been a blast. I didn't write a Journal entry yesterday because I skipped my last period of school (Yes, I actually missed class!) to head down early. Not to mention that I then got back late, so no time for Journal entry.

All my friends dressed up, and I felt like a stick in the mud for not dressing up as well. I would have, but I only decided yesterday morning that I was even going to Anime North for sure. -_- But they looked great. The three girls were Yuna, Riku and Paine (they looked amazing, and were one of the last in the Masquerade show), while the two guys were Reno (?) and Van (Escaflowne). So there was a bit of a Final Fantasy theme. lol

Oh ya, before I forget, new items to add to my anime collection: two Kenshin tv series VHS tapes, one Hand Maid May VHS tape, one Boogiepop Phantom VHS tape, and the entire Chobits DVD set!!!

Tomorrow we're getting up early, though by how wiped they all looked, I doubt they'll be moving very fast. lol ~_^

  • Against the odds... 2004-05-20 00:00:07 The Calgary Flames are going to the Stanley Cup Finals! This team wasn't supposed to get past the first round against the Vancouver Canucks, but here they are after defeating both the Detroit Red Wings and now the San Jose Sharks.

I'm flipping through my Agenda from school, and for the next few weeks, I've just been packing in the days. Music Banquet, Birthday parties, Prom, Graduation, Music Concert, Anime North, Oliver (the play), Selling tickets... I suppose it's appropriate considering I wanted to make the most of my last year in High School. ^_^'

I just visited the website for Adult Swim. This is where I get jealous of all the Americans who get to enjoy Cartoon Network, and the Adult Swim programming at night. -_-

Ugh... I was on Adult Swim at school, and someone saw the site, and thought I was on porn. I explained that I wasn't. We browsed through the site, and found the list of shows. I asked if they knew any of them. Of course, when they saw Baby Blues, they said "I knew this was a porn site!", and I think they were too busy laughing about it to hear me explain what the real show was about. Even I get Baby Blues on Teletoon, so at least I know what it's really about.

Oh ya, my friend is trying to get a limo for Prom for everyone at our table for dinner. He was showing some pics he found from the limo service's website, and it was totally amazing! 0_0
