Plain Toast
2002-10-03 14:28:07
Finally tried out the new MPEG-1 compress in the new version of Toast Titanium. I didn't gain any control over the compression rate but after comparing a new and old MPEG-1 it is a definet improvment. The colors are brighter, the video isn't as dark, and the text is a lot cleaner. I've been meaning to redo the bumper on my current videos so I'll do that this weekend, recompress with the new version of Toast, and upload the cleaner version of the videos on Monday from work.

NES Project

In case you hadn't heard: http://www.animemusicvideos.org/phpBB/viewtopic.php?p=82186#82186
I've gone through the list so far and I'm particularly fond of a TMNT remix and a Bionic Commando remix. While the TMNT is my favorite of the two I can't come up with a good anime for it yet (damn anime newbieness, I need more DVDs). The Bionic Commando has a few ideas and I think I could pull that off better than the TMNT. Beside, it would probably be a less popular choice and I do have the game (loved it, actually) so that would work out well. I guess I'll just wait until track assignments go out and see what happens. I'm not going to be too pushy since I probably would be one of the least experienced involved in the project.
Roxio has released a big update for Toast Titanium (a CD/DVD burning software on the Mac which I use to encode my MPEG-1s) which is promising new features with its VCD encoder, allowing for more control of the encoding. They announced the update this morning but didn't post it until I got home to my 56K connection (it's a 21 MB update). So I'll download that first thing at work and see if I can't get some better MPEG-1 encodings of my current video. I hope they are just making a big scene for nothing.

AWA Aftermath
2002-10-02 14:34:28
Okay, so it is spelled Ubernostrum. It was still very amusing at Iron Chef.
I'm amazed how much stuff there is to do after AWA considering all the stuff I had to do before AWA.
1. Email CD set submitters about AWA and make arrangements to send them the set.
2. Post I have left over CD sets to the board.
3. Go through an amazing number of both AMV and AWA mail list emails.
4. Get new video online.
5. Catch up on sleep and food (HA!).
Well at least I have most of it done by now. I'll be mailing out most of the CD sets I need to send to submitters tomorrow (just got the stamps today) and several people are sending me envelopes to send them copies of the CD set. My new video got 91 downloads in 24 hours. I thought that was pretty cool since it barely got shown at AWA and it was by no means memorable.
Just showed The Truth About Totoro video to some coworkers. I realized it was a lot more fun in the group setting but still amusing. I still need to go through all the CDs I got at AWA and see what other videos I want to download from AWA. Hopefully by the end of the weekend and I'll be caught up on everything and will only be mailing out a CD set now and then to those who want one.

AWA Report: Saturday
2002-09-29 05:01:48
Ubernocken! Once you hear about the Iron Chef contest you'll understand (and I'll be sure on the spelling).
Really good day overall. Made it to some cool panels this morning (especially Brad Demoss and Lee Thompson) and saw some sweet Expo videos. The awards ceremony went real smooth (and only ran over by 5 minutes, wow!) and we got to see all of the Master videos. They did nothing for the Dance Challenge entrances which kinda of stunk since I didn't stay for the dance late last night and I thought I had my best chances in that contest. Oh well.
Got to see the first two episodes of FLCL for the first time (was curious since there were a lot of FLCL AMVs this year at AWA). It is now on my wish list.
I put together a box and sign for the CD sets and finally got a good distribution going. I leeched off of panels when they ended and the panelist were handing out CDs too. I also stayed near the door to the VAT room and got a lot of both AMV creators and fans interested. I offered to give the CDs away and asked for a $1 donate if they happened to have it and most did. People really liked the idea of the CD set and thought the $1 donate to cover expenses was a great deal. A few people kept asking if it was the DDR Project and people though they were all Master videos too. I corrected them and for the most part they left uninterested. However one guy really pissed me off. He asked about the CDs and I told him. He acted like he didn't have the $1 so I offered a set to him anyway since he was interested. He took it and asked what formats the videos were in. I told him MPEG-1 and DivX 5. He sniffed, tossed the CD back into the box, and walked off saying "Huh. Low res." Now I can see where people preter better quality on many things but when you can't even produce a $1 I don't think you are in much of a position to be picky over the "res." Damn prick. Anyway, CDs going good. I only have 16 available ones left and 25 reserved ones left which will become publicly available near Sunday at noon. I fully expect to come home empty handed tomorrow.
My cousin left for home tonight so I'll be soloing tomorrow. Going to try and hit Quu's panel tomorrow morning at 9:00 so I need to wrap this up. Again, I'll post larger con reports on my web site in a few days.
Oh, just in case she ever reads this, EK, that was a really cool thing you did for Rozard and his mom during the Iron Chef contest.

AWA Report: Friday
2002-09-28 01:39:14
I must sleep so this will be short. Look for more on my web site after AWA.
AWA is going good. VAT seems to be running a little behind all day long but no biggie. Only problem was the major delay for the Dance contest after the DDR 2 Project (which rocked, BTW, even with a worse soundtrack). Kevin and I decided it wasn't worth it since I did have a 15-20 minute drive back to my place and I've been down on sleep anyway.
Got to see my Jupiter video with an audience. It followed a cool Yuyu Hakuso/Ghostbuster theme video so people were still talking about that a minute into my video =( Oh well, at least I don't think I heard any grumbles.
Got a few CD sets out but either the people with reserved copies couldn't find me or are coming tomorrow (I know of several only showing up on Saturday). I have a little white box now with a label and I'll try to stay near the VAT room door so people can see the box and sign but so I'm not annoying too many people. The problem is it is constantly dark in the VAT room (duh!). I'm also going to scavenge off of the panelist after seeing the lines for their CDs.
Well I'm getting up at 8:00, getting something to eat at 9:00, and planning to be back at AWA by 10:00 so nighty night.
