JOURNAL: Red Wolf (Paul Quinnell)

  • Woo Hoo! Getting the NES! 2002-10-25 12:55:51 Okay, so it isn't the newest game system in the stores this holiday season =P

My sister and her roommate have our old NES which I am getting back this weekend for the NES project (I own the game who's track I am working on plus a few other games who's tracks I was interested in). I figure it would help with inspiration and footage capture (if later desired). Plus I was obsessive about those games so...=)

For those not on the project I am doing the Bionic Commando BIONICBPM OC ReMix. I'll be using various anime, the main idea being to have nothing but various hero and villian transformation scenes (mostly female) for flashy eye candy to go with the tune. You can download the MP3 from my site at:

    http://homepage.mac.com/red_wolf/Bionic Commando BIONICBPM OC ReMix.mp3

Right now we're debating about cutting the track around 2:0X or not. Basically I like the whole track and if I can keep the ideas and footage coming without repeats I'm going to go for the whole 3:18.
  • AMV DC Update 2002-10-24 11:50:04 Added two more CDs, More Than Toast - Old Videos and More Than Toast - New Videos. Check them out at:

    http://homepage.mac.com/red_wolf/Distro/catalog.html

Also running a couple of specials including no blanks needed on the AWA CD if you order both CDs (just pay postage).
  • Bad Phone Cord? 2002-10-22 19:36:23 Can phone cords go kinda bad but not all bad? I can connect, but not log into my ISP in the bedroom but I have no problems at my computer desk. I need to swaps cords and see if that is the problem. Nothing severe, obviously, but rather odd.

Everyone, back up your data...now. Another hard drive, CD, DVD, 100 floppies, anything. Several people called into work with dead or near dying hard drives and lost data. A guy lost his two year running dissertation (that's right, two years and no backup)...you're working a Ph.D., learn to fuse a freakin' floppy disk you stupid Windows using bastard (sorry, but he did call an APPLE store for help...sad part is we did help some). Anyone, that happened today and now I just read two journal entries, one with a dying hard drive and another with a dead hard and lost data (although he backed up, just not recently apparently...sorry Rich), so I just backed everything up to my FireWire drive and I recommend everyone else do so too cause something is going around.

Got a copy of Apple's Remote Desktop (http://www.apple.com/remotedesktop) software today. I loaded it on all of the showroom demos and and started to play with my coworkers and customers (the cool ones at least). It was cool, my fellow sales partner and I shut down the showroom from our iBooks. Now if only I can figure out how to get the iMac's screen to move remotely so it can follow people as they walk in, muhahaha! It is actually useful because I loaded down the audio based iMac with MP3s so now I can turn the volume down when I pick up the phone at my desk. Did I mention our wirelessly connect iBooks are the master systems? :evil grin:

    AMV DC Update

Several CDs in route to us including: MTT (2 CDs), Studio Tarantella, Kai Stromler (high quality MPEG-2 CD), and Iserlohn Productions. Naturally I'll announce when each one gets here and is listed on the catalog.
  • Title? Title?! We don't need no stinkin' title! 2002-10-21 21:20:08 AMV DC: Added a new CD submitted by Tom the Fish from Three Lonely Kaiju (yeah, I spelled it right). Tom, I swear, looking at your full name with the "the Fish" I wonder about Mafia connections. It also doesn't help that you used a freakin' stamp for the return address label =P Check out the new CD at http://homepage.mac.com/red_wolf/Distro/catalog.html#cd14

More CDs on the way so stay tuned. And while you're waiting, order something! =)

Mac Guide: Started work on the new AMVs on the Mac guide. Among other changes I will be adding a section for AMV fans who simply want to enjoy AMVs on their Macs. That section will include things like a break down of file types, what they can watch and with what and what they can't watch.

The DivX encoding venture died a quick death. No officially supported DivX encoding exists on the Mac and what little I did find is overly dependent on the Terminal in OS X and was designed to do little more than convert ripped DVD files to DivX format (not of any use to AMV creation). I even fiddled with 3ivX but since support for that died before Jaguar was released it is having problems in 10.2. Oh well, MPEG-1 and Sorenson Squeeze are still my friends.

Got through my wallpaper collection (and added even more to it, like an idiot). Probably not going to post it since they are mainly slightly edited versions of ones found at animewallpapers.com and macdesktop.com. I was trying to do a slide publishing of them for 10.2 users so they could use the images as a slideshow screen saver but the stupid Mac Slides Publisher isn't working at all (thanks Apple, love the lack of even text based support on that download).

Still working on the getting a life thing.
  • Is Anybody Out There? 2002-10-19 22:59:47 Is it me, or did everyone else go offline this weekend. I haven't heard a peep out of the AMV mail list, journals are quiet, and since I installed counters on my web sites I haven't received any hits. Oh well, I must be the only loser sitting around a computer this weekend.

Just finished creating the master CDs for the AMV DC. I have also backed up the images file of all the CDs for faster burning (I can only copy at 16x right now but I can burn up to 48x, though I usually keep it at 32x). Right now the CDs aren't taking up much drive space but if this thing takes off and a lot more CDs come in that will change.

    Upcoming Projects:

    1. Go back over AMVs on the Mac guide and make changes, upgrades, and additions as needed. Among other things I am going to go over Dazzle bridge, Mac friendly hosting, and a new section for Mac users who simply want to play AMVs easily.

    2. Finish going through and editing my collection of wallpaper (both my creation and rip offs) and then post it online for others to enjoy.

    3. Start experimenting with DivX encoding.

    4. Get a life.
