SSSSLLLLLOOOOOWWWWW!!!!!!
2002-07-25 12:47:22
Good news: I think I'm done (or at least to a point where I can publish) my AMVs on Mac guide. There are several supplements I'll need to make later but those can wait.
Bad news: I am desperately trying to get my AMVs encoded into MPEG-2 format for AWA submission (due August 2). I have found a way to encode for the con but it involves using Virtual PC (a Windows emulator) on my poor little iBook and it is taking 2.5 days (yes, DAYS) to encode a 4:30 video. I have to get a 4:30 video encoded and a second 3:30 video encoded and leave enough time to mail out the CDs. I tried doing this on a fast G4 system at work but I've spent the last four days watching the encoder program crash without errors (works fine on the lower end iBook, odd). I did get one video encoded but it looks like the quality is bad so I may have to redo that one.
Anyway, I'll try to get the guide online at August 2 since I'll be all done with my con submissions for the rest of the year. Maybe I'll be able to make another AMV sometime this fall =P

Working for the Weekend
2002-07-18 10:30:22
My second AMV is still finished (I have a habit of doing little edits on and after after finishing a project). I'll be putting both my videos onto CDs tonight after I buy food for AWA. I'm mailing out Drops of Sailor Jupiter to the Middle TN Anime Con today.
Got QuickTime 6 Pro. Still need to play with MPEG-4 compression (probably not going to be worth it for AMVs). Found out MPEG-2 play back requires yet another purchase and that software won't work on my Mac so =P
Apple changed their iTools system which is what I use to host my AMVs. The bad news is they went from a free service to a paid service (now called .Mac). The good news is because I paid for extra hard drive space (100MB) a month or two ago they are not only honoring the one year contract with me and keeping my extra space but they are also throwing in a free membership to .Mac. So without paying out any more cash I now have a full .Mac membership and 200MB of online storage space (.Mac membership get 100MB storage space) compared to the 120MB I had under iTools. Works for me...until the subscription needs to be renewed at least.
I'm hopeful about completeing my Mac AMV Guide this weekend. I know what else needs to go in, I just need to sit down and type it out and do the last screen shots.

New AMV Finished
2002-07-16 10:33:38
I was woken up this morning at 2:30AM as my cat started crying from under the bed as if he was hurt. I had to move the mattress and bed springs to get at him and as soon as I did he limped over to another corner of the bed. So then I just torn the bed apart trying to get to him (I was concerned, after all). Well he limped off into another room and five minutes later was walking around fine. Apparently he was tearing around and just stubbed his paw or something. Anyway, the point is I was awake for several hours in the middle of the night after all that. So...
I finished my newest AMV early this morning =) I did a slight edit, viewed it four times, and didn't have an urge to make any changes during those last viewings so that tells me I'm done. So now I can submit it to AWA with a week or so to spare (due August 2).
I was going to experiment with MPEG-2 compression on the Mac (not a free or easy process as of the other day) and I just found out QuickTime 6 (which includes MPEG-2 decoding and MPEG-4 and AAC encoding) has been fully released (I've been playing with a beta version). So now I just need to purchase a new QuickTime Pro key and I can party. One problem, though...I still haven't received my lost debit card in the mail (see below)! Oh well, I got a bad hair cut this week too so at least I'm consistant.
And for those whom it may concern I will be starting work again on my AMVs on the Mac guide once I get a chance to play with the new QuickTime.

Getting There
2002-07-13 19:25:39
I did a slight change to the credits on my Drops of Sailor Jupiter (replaced the studio name with my name as director in the "music video" styled text at the beginning and end). I also removed five frames that have been bugging me. All of this because I was getting the video ready to be sent to the Middle Tennessee Anime Convention. Now I just need to use the digital camera at work to transfer the video to MiniDV and off to the postal office I go.
I'm getting ever closer to finishing my second video. This is good since the contest deadline (Dance Contest at AWA 8) is getting ever closer =P I'm down to the last 36 seconds in the song and it is one of those songs where the last 30 seconds is repeated music and an ad lib or four of various parts of the chorus. Such a joy to work with. I have an idea for what to do with the rest of the video footage but it means getting some new effects and transitions for iMovie. Oh well, I've been wanting an excuse to buy the plig-ins I've been looking at lately. On the up side Monday is pay day and not a whole lot of bills are due =)
I have decided that I will NOT publish this second AMV until after AWA this year. I had toyed with the idea of making it downloadable after the contest deadline (August 2) but I want to go for a premier feel at AWA (even if it is all in my head). I'm unsure on whether I'll at least list the video info after the deadline. I guess we'll find out on August 3.
