JOURNAL: Red Wolf (Paul Quinnell)

  • Blah 2002-09-01 00:27:07 I really need to start updating this thing more than twice a bloody month =P

Hitting DragonCon this weekend. My group pulled out (one had a baby and the other one just moved to a new apartment and got engaged) so I'm soloing this year. And yes, it sucks. Last year at least I had a date...granted she was a boring date (we arrived too early for her sleep schedule I think) but a date none-the-less. Oh well, there's always AWA.

I'm waiting for a couple of CDs to arrive in the mail for the AWA compilation CD. Once I get those I'll be able to compile the CD and harass the various creators for info on their videos. Then I get to save a disc image, steal the high speed CD burner from work, and burn away for a week or three. I'm planning on taking pre-orders for the CD just to get an idea of how many I will need for the con itself.

I'm going to try and help organize a few AMV creator get togethers during the AWA con as well. Looks like we might have a small dinner group for Thursday night before the con.

Until AWA comes and goes all my own AMV projects will be on hold. I have two more conventions this month, both work related, plus I've taken on a lot of projects at work (working on company web site, teaching Mac OS X training classes, etc) so the AWA CD is going to take what little free time I have left. I am still planning on uploading my newest AMV after AWA so it will at least look like I've been working on videos (I haven't *sniff*).
  • Widescreen 2002-08-14 09:31:35 I'm currently trying to figure out all the settings I need in order to capture, edit, and compress widescreen DVD footage (from Princess Mononoke) into MPEG-1 format for a new video I want to start work on. I'm having limited success. At least it'll give me something new for my Mac guide when all is said and done.

I'm still taking submissions on the AWA Compilation CD. OfficeMax is offering a 100 pack spindle of 650MB/74 minute CD-Rs I forget the brand) for free after an instant and mailed in rebate. This is tempting since I would love to have at least 200 CDs to give away (only have 150 stockpiled at the moment) but all my other CD-Rs are 700MB. Using some 650MB CD-Rs would mean one, maybe two less AMVs. I think I'll go ahea and get the CD-Rs and then, if submissions stay under 650MB I'll use them. If they go over 650MB then I'll just save them for personal use. I'd still love to find a great deal on a 50 pack or more of 700MB CD-Rs. Oh well, still two weeks to go before I have to start burning.
  • AWA Compilation CD Report 2002-08-08 07:27:11 I've got a web site up giving details on the project. I currently have 500MB of space left on the CD (that should be equal to 12 or so videos). I have a good number of people responding, just waiting to get their videos in most cases.
  • New Video... 2002-08-04 23:33:08 ...although it isn't quite online at the moment. My new video is for the AWA Dance Challenge so I won't be releasing the actual video until after it premieres at AWA 8. But since the contest deadline has pasted I'm posting the video information now and I'll upload the video for the public after September 27.
  • AWA Entries Arrived, AMV on the Mac Guide Up, Hosting the Anime Expo Documentary 2002-08-02 11:07:58 Again, another large update because I'm too lazy to post regularly.

I was desperatly trying to get my AMVs encoded by the world's slowest MPEG-2 encoder this past week so that I could make the AWA Pro and Dance deadline. I got everything done on Tuesday night and the arrival deadline was Friday. Luckily I can ship UPS Ground through work for $3.00 and since I'm only an hour's drive from the guy receiving the videos UPS Ground was more than fast enough since I gave them two days. I even got an email from the AWA VAT guys confirming my video entries arrived. A very cool fast response, my thanks to the AWA crew. Now I just need to encode one more video and mail in that and a second video which is already encoded for AWA Expo but that can wait a few days.

As I type I am uploading the (finally) finished AMV on the Mac guide which I've been promising for a month now. I added a last minute chapter last night and did the final proof read. Feel free to point out any typos I may have missed or if you have some suggestions for the guide shoot me an email. The guide can be seen at http://homepage.mac.com/red_wolf/MacGuide/

As you may or may not know, Mindwarp Entertainment posted their Anime Expo Documentary earlier this week online. They were looking for extra hosts and seeing that I had the space and was launching a Mac guide anyway I converted their AVI file to QuickTime for the Mac users out there and I am now hosting the QuickTime version of their documentary.
