Another Classic Big Update
2002-09-16 21:18:17
Yet again I have slacked with this journal so here we go.
Car: Still waiting on insurance company to call. Going to start the search for a new vehicle with a phone call tomorrow.
This Weekend: GREAT CONFERENCE! Good food, good presentations, new friends and business contacts made, and lots of useful information. Not to mention the booty (goods, not other) I got:
- a new mini optical mouse for my iBook, this one was designed to match the iBook, worth $40
- cool business card stand (from Macally so it is useable at work)
- a Mac Cube t-shirt (rare)
- a furry to the touch Apple Jaguar mouse pad (thin, perfect for travel)
- a Handspring t-shirt, hat, and freezbie (not much work done today, hehe)
- a nice sports bag from Borland
- a dozen copies of the latest MacAddict magazine for the co-workers
- a MS Office stickie clock (hey, at least it has the Mac version of Office logo)
AWA: If I don't have a car I may be able to get one for the weekend out of my folks (they live in the area). There is just so much going on that I'm a part of now that I would hate to miss it all.
AWA AMV Gatherings: Need to go ahead and set Friday, Saturday times since intrest seems to be dying off in gatherings. Will post more in a few days.
AWA CD: The CDs are done and burning. I've posted for people to make reservations today and already have two reservations made for the CD set. I'll be borrowing the 16x burner from work every night for a while to help with the burning (averaging 6 per hour). I'll need to order the double CD sleeves at work tomorrow (getting them at cost, thankfully) but I don't know if I should order one or two packs of 50. Also looking at ordering some Red Wolf Studio business cards to go out with the CD sets as an additional plug.

Totaled
2002-09-12 17:18:47
Well the body shop has totaled the car. Offically it won't be totaled until the insurance rep can see it on Monday or Tuesday but it's totaled. AWA is now officialy up in the air. We'll see what happens.

Car Update
2002-09-10 22:23:22
Car should be in the shop tomorrow morning. Hopefully there isn't much more damage than what I saw and the insurance company won't delcare it totaled. As with any older car someone at my pay rate has, it is worth a hell of a lot more to me running than in cash. Did find out they won't cover repairs to the iBook. However it appears the damage is a slightly warped LCD but this has in no way impaired function. The hinge is intact and I've gotten it so the iBook will close and latch with no problem (although the left side just have a gap a few centimeters wide). It isn't in as good shape as it was before I crashed but considering the hit it took it is doing great (and 100% usable for AWA and future AMV projects).
I won't miss that conference this weekend either. The company is loaning me a car for the weekend to get me back and forth to the MARTA station which I was going to do anyway since I hate Atlanta traffic *shock* and the cost of MARTA is cheaper than parking. Besides, the conference is only two blocks from a MARTA station so it isn't like I'll miss a car.
Apple released a new calendar program called iCal. Among other features you can post a calendar online for others to see. This should be really helpful with AWA in both posting AMV gathering schedules as well as posting my own AWA schedule so people can find me easier for the AWA CDs.
AWA CD Update: Still waiting on last CD which was supposed to have been mailed out 5 days ago. Also waiting on two more video info emails. Hopefully I'll have everything in by the weekend. I'll need to do most of my burning next week and the weekend before AWA.

SSSSSCCCCCCCCEEEEEEEEAAAAAAACCCCCCCCCCHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!

CRASH!
Yep, had a car accident today. Everyone is okay but it was my fault and I did some major damage to my own vehicle (the SUV didn't have a scratch). There was a six car wreck on the side of the road and everyone was stopping (yes, stopping...on a major interstate during rush hour) to look at it. Silly me, I just keep driving by to keep traffic moving =P
Bad News:
1. AWA funds are now hurt and that high speed CD-RW just went out the window. Hopefully I can borrow the 16x burner from work over the next two weekends and get the AWA CDs done with that.
2. In Atlanta, any accident requires a court visit so now I'll have to take time off work to drive BACK into Atlanta. That means no more half day off for AWA, either.
3. My iBook was in the car and took a nasty hit to its monitor. It still works but I can tell the monitor is now misaligned and the unit won't close 100%. Insurance should cover repair costs (it isn't like it will add to my deductable).
4. I had a conference I was going to this weekend I won't be able to make. Normally it wouldn't bother me too much but my company paid out for the conference so now I feel bad. I'll probably just pay them back the $30.
Good News:
1. A co-worker/friend lives in the same apartment complex as me so I have a good ride to work until the car is fixed.
2. Provided I get all the phone calls made tomorrow I need to make I should have the car back in time for AWA.
3. Finally found an excuse to clean out my car (before the tower took it away).

Busy Day 2
2002-09-09 12:37:51
I got my AWA Pro nominations in yesterday afternoon. Today I got an email stating that most of the partisipants haven't nominated any videos yet and the deadline is tomorrow. I would have been surprised but judging by a lot of the video quality I can see where a lot of submitters would wait to the last minute or not bother with nomination at all. Oh well, at least I got to see some good videos without download time.
Lots of stuff flying around with AWA gatherings. People wanting a Friday and Saturday lunch get together. Initially I was planning to leave directly from work on Friday and arrive at the con around 6:30-7:00 that night for the evening activities. Now I'm starting to think about taking a half day and getting there by noon. I'm still fairly new to this job (been here six months as of AWA) and while I have a personal day built up I'm not sure if I should take it or not. Typically it looks really good if you don't miss a day of work during your first year but, while no job is 100% secure, they are happy with me and I'm happy with them. Plus the big boss will be out of town that week which may help or hurt (it's a small business so man power counts). We'll see.
