I Love .Mac
2002-09-24 17:18:23
My poor .Mac account has been flooded with constant web site changes, tons of emails from the AMV and AWA mail list, people wanting the CD set, people coming to Thursday AMV dinner, and plenty of other random stuff. Thank goodness it is filtering out the spam very efficently.
Still at work so no new CDs burned (I'm sorry, but I like my job =P). I did get the 150 CD-Rs I was waiting for and half of the CD sleeves arrived (please let the other two boxes show up tomorrow). The new 150 CDs are purple. I am giving away 75 PURPLE CD SETS. That is going to come back and bite me at some point. The stupid site didn't say anything about PURPLE! =P
So tonight, while burning even more CDs, I'll be stuffing CD sleeves as well. Plus I need to clean up my kitchen and bathroom since my cousin is coming in this weekend. Luckily I cleaned the living room and bedroom this past weekend while burning CDs so I should be able to get everything done in time. I would like to have everything done by Thursday since I want to focus and have a good time at the AMV dinner and I have an appointment with my insurance agent Friday morning before I meet up with Kevin (the cuz) and head to AWA. Well, it isn't like anyone else getting things ready for AWA is getting any sleep either.
The dinner is coming along. I have a dozen people signed up. Ten more and we can get the private room =) The cool part is I "know" a lot of the people signed up so far from various postings and interactions but I haven't gotten to know them (not that I expect a huge interest to get to know me) so this could be cool.

Its Not My Fault
2002-09-24 00:08:38
Disc 1 Burned: 125/200
Disc 2 Burned: 125/200
Sets Completed: 0/200
Sets Reserved: 31
Materials Obtained: 250 CD-Rs, CD Labels , Cards
Materials Shipping: Double Sided CD Sleeves, 150 CD-Rs
Well AMV.org is finally back up so don't blame me for the lack of journal update. I'm hoping the CD sleeves and extra CDs get in tomorrow. I have burned and labeled everything I can at this point.
Car Update: I got a new used car on Saturday so all my AWA driving worries are gone. I had a 1993 Saturn SL1 with a full power package and 120,000 miles. I now have a 2000 Saturn SL2 with power locks, keyless entry, a CD player, and (get this) only 19,000 miles and it was still under factory warranty. I did get the extended warranty plan so the thing has a bumper to bumper warranty for up to 60,000 miles or until May 2005. The best part: I can afford the bloody car payments (it helps having 1/4 of the total in cash from the insurance check).
AWA Update: I'm taking Friday off from work so I'll be at AWA before the opening ceremonies. It looks like my cousin from north side Atlanta will be coming to AWA with me on Friday and Saturday...he has been warned about the CD set I'm doing =) He's a bit new to anime and totally new to AMVs but he's cool and looking forward to everything so this should be neat. Even though I am looking forward to meeting a lot of new friends at AWA it is nice having someone I know coming in with me too.

Going Ahead with More CD Sets
2002-09-19 10:24:21
Disc 1 Burned: 50/200
Disc 2 Burned: 6/200
Sets Completed: 0/200
Materials Obtained: 250 CD-Rs, CD Labels
Materials Shipping: Double Sided CD Sleeves, Cards, 150 CD-Rs
I got a go ahead from the CD contributors to go ahead and up the supply and add on the $1 charge to the CD set. People are still making reservations even with the changes so I think the demand will still be quite high. I've ordered the extra CD sleeves and CD-Rs through work and I picked up enough CD-Rs through a rebate deal at Office Depot to hold me through the weekend.
AWA Gathering Update: I need to publish some lunch gathering times and see if I can't get people to email me about Thursday dinner so I can have a number of cars and people for myself and the restaurant.
Car Update: The insurance company is being generous with their totaling of my car. It has a Blue Book value of $2500 and they are giving me over $3100. After the deductible I will end up with $2600 for a down payment on a new vehicle. I'm still looking at going car shopping this weekend with my down payment check. While I won't rush into a car if I don't find one I like at the price point I'm looking at but I am hopeful about having a new car before AWA.

Money for the AWA CD?
2002-09-18 11:53:15
I'm getting a great response on the AWA CD set. In 36 hours I have almost 20 reservations for the set. The bad news is this tells me that the 75 to 100 sets I was planning to produce won't be enough since only a small percent will reserve a copy in advance (not to mention all the people who haven't seen this project online who may still be interested). I'm currently calculating that I will need 200 CD sets...that’s 400 CDs!
I'm currently asking the submitters to the CD set how they feel if I went from a free CD distribution (which was a great idea but this project has greatly left that realm) to charge $1 for the CD set. That would both filter out people who really aren't interested in AMVs and it will help cover my added cost (I'll still lose money but I was always expecting to lose some, just not as much as would be required now). The people who have already reserved a copy will still get their copy for free since that was what was advertised.
I have 13 submitters to the CD and so far 2 have responded in favor of the $1 charge for the added sets. I need to get the extra CDs order since I am getting them at cost through work so I'm hoping I get some more replies today because I need to order those CDs today. *sigh*

I Just Can't Take It!
2002-09-17 17:05:18
Sorry, I've had Michael Jackson's "Scream" stuck in my head all day =P
Car: Still waiting on the insurance to call. I'll probably need to harass them tomorrow. I have contacted a sales person at a local Saturn dealership which my family has had several dealings with. Hopefully I'll be able to go out there Friday night/Saturday and see what I might be able to do about a replacement vehicle. The good news is I'll have a substansal down payment from the insurance money, a co-signing with my parents, and I'll count as repeat business since my family has purchased five cars through this dealership. As long as I can keep the monthly payments down I'll be okay because there isn't much room to move there. In any case I'll be a lot less free to work on various projects, including AMVs, because of money constrants.
I'll post a AWA CD update later tonight. Just too much to put in here right now.
