It's the most wonderful time of the year...
2002-11-01 17:16:53
Some time ago, I got the idea in my head to do a Christmas video. Nothing earth-shattering...just a short feel-good sort of video using as much of the Christmas footage I had available. At the time, though, Christmas was a long, long time away, so I shelved the idea for later in the year.
Well, Christmas is drawing closer, so I guess now would be a good time to get started. Besides, I'm still too sore from the wreck to want to go out and do much this weekend, so I might as well spend the time compiling source footage. So far, I've found 17 shows/movies in my collection that contain suitable footage...both old and new.
Time to get to work...

Ouch

Had a wreck today...got thrown around quite a bit, so I'm pretty sore. Basically, I got sideswiped by one of those hotel courtesy vans after going through a toll booth at the airport. Ended up sliding for awhile, jumped a curb, took out some signs, and got stuck in the mud. Truck is probably totaled, but it'll depend on what shape the frame is in.

Blah, blah, blah

I mentioned Vertical Horizon in my last entry...while out this weekend, I picked up one of their earlier CDs (Running on Ice) on a whim. In short, it's a great CD. It's also full of video-worthy songs. Ah, the torture.
I've been putting off the remaster of Sakura no Yume for awhile now, but I've decided to enter it in the CSUN Contest, as it seems like it'll most likely draw the sort of crowd that would appreciate the video. So, I'm going to get started with the remaster this week, and should have it done in little time. I haven't decided yet whether or not to make any changes as far as editing is concerned. There's one mistake in the video that I didn't notice until long after I originally finished...but it's a mistake that only I'd know of, so it doesn't make much sense to fix it now. For the most part, I'm interested in fixing some framerate and other quality issues that resulted from problems with the original master render.
Anyway, I should have that done soon.

I'm a Ramblin' Man

It seems I'm so busy with life (grad school = teh suck) and watching anime (yes, WATCHING anime...who'd thunk it?) to do any video editing. The Kare Kano video is still in limbo until the next DVD is released in early December...although, considering I'll be out of town most of that month (Where? Think hula skirts, Mai-Tai's, and flocks of Japanese tourists with video cameras the size of cell phones), I probably won't be able to work on it until after the first of the year. I still want to do something with the first CCS movie, too, but damn if I can't figure out what sort of music to use.
To make matters worse, after watching ErMaC's AWA Master's video (Lonely Miracle) a million times and pulling out the ol' Vertical Horizon CD to listen to on the daily commute, I find myself flooded with all sorts of ideas. I'd love to do something to "Best I Ever Had (Grey Sky Morning)".
Moving on, Matt Page's "Angelic Gear Perfect" surprised me...from the description, I wasn't sure it would work, but it turned out to be a fairly good video. Not technically perfect, but well-conceived and edited. Mixing in the drum solo from "The Perfect Drug" was a nice touch. Anyway, I figured I'd just throw a mention out there for those of you have noticed it hanging out at the top of the Top 10% list the past few days but haven't checked it out.
Now if you'll excuse me, I'm off to watch the second episode of Piano...

Urge to edit rising...

Let the post-AWA video download spree begin!
All the buzz surrounding conventions just reminds me of how enjoyable of a hobby this is - and I have to resist the urge to fire up Premiere at this very moment and get to work (soon, soon...midterms are nigh).
In retrospect, however, I do wish I had finished up the remaster of Sakura no Yume in time to submit in the AWA Pro contest. But, at least it's on the compilation CD put together by Red Wolf.
Now if you'll excuse me, I have some videos to watch...
