You asked me if there'd come a time when I grow tired of you

This doesn't really fit any of the forums, so I thought I'd throw out a message in a bottle for anyone who might happen to click those Last Updated links over there.
I've been in an oldies mood lately when it comes to music, and searched a couple of the songs I was listening to at the moment to see if there were AMVs made for 'em. Most weren't, but it got me thinking. I've seen a couple of vids to older songs (My Sweetness and Liquid Petals come to mind right away), but it's an under-represented genre. Probably because it's more difficult to work with sparsely instrumented and literally lyric-ed songs than complex and impressionistic, so I'm not surprised, but anyway.
If anybody has any recs they can give for videos using oldies - 50s and 60s stuff, I'm thinking, though 70s is pretty rare too - toss me a PM, or here, I'll start up an LJ post too (never underestimate the power of a passing craze!):

Could be yours or anyone else's.
Thanks in advance!

She told me she worked in the morning, and started to laugh

The mail is very good to me lately. Got a CD full of old-sk00l AMVs via a couple of org members, which was a nice diversion. I really like some of them. Dunno, maybe it's just that the song choices people used to have match my tastes more. *shrug*
And today I got disc...something (8? 9?) of Utena, which makes it pretty clear that we'll have three eps per disc from here on out. Sigh. I don't know if I can afford two more DVDs this year. :/ I was kind of counting on there only being two left, including this one, but I must have miscounted somehow. This one leaves off at 33, leaving six more eps to go.
Meh... anyway. Still nice to get. I'm still tempted to start that Juri vid up again (one of my two ideas), but I really, really need to hold out for the badminton scene in...I think it's 38. I could try to make either vid without it, but without that OR disc 2 to work from, I'm pushing it.
And I have to get disc 2 before I make anything, too. Grargh. Maybe I'll just have to bite the bullet and ask for it for Christmas from somebody... that holds me back a whole month. Everybody and their cat in this fandom will have fanfreakingtabulous whole-series videos out by then.
Ah well. This is the risk I run by getting hooked on an expensive hobby. I knew I'd get trounced by going out of my sphere; I'm up against people who can buy up my entire collection's worth of stuff just on a whim one day.
So maybe I'll work on one of the Juri vids just for fun. Even if it's not done all at once. I think Chimera has room for all those vobs now...30G... well, maybe. heh.

Okay, so the vid is up here and entered in Yaoicon. That about ties everything up.
It's up to the judges now whether they want to show it or not, given the whole "ewwwww icky GIRRRRRRRRL" factor. (Truth be told, Yaoicon is run by a segment of the yaoi fandom that I really don't care for. They're keen on pushing stereotypes. But I'm sure not all of the attendees are like that, so I don't want to badmouth the con overall.)
Anyway, I imagine the vid would be booed even if it does get run, which I'm curious about anyway. I dunno if I know anyone going to it this year... friend of mine was going to, but I don't know if those plans are still on. If so I'll have to convince her to check out the AMV showing (she's not an AMV person).
Bleargh. Anyway, that's it. Stick a fork in it, this project is done.
Next up is either finishing my other Yami vid, or reviving one of my minor Utena projects that I thought I'd scrap. Not to make a gigantic ambitious showing, just because I like the idea and I want to make it.

Better now. Vid is still exporting. I hope that the sound doesn't get frigged up coming out of Premiere, because there's no way in hell to match it back with the original wav.
They *claim* most resolutions and such are kosher, so we'll see. I may shrink it by about a third just to keep the filesize under a gig. I suspect my ratbastard ISP can't stay un-screwedup long enough to let a file that big upload without a hitch, but I have to give it a shot.
ALL THIS for a vid that will probably be DQed anyway. Sheesh!

Wow.

Got an immensely detailed review of "Imaginary World" that I *HAVE* to sit down and reply to later. I don't think I have time right now, I just jumped online to check some things out.
But that brightens my day. ^_^ They did find a lot of faults, but also a lot of looking into what everything was supposed to mean, which is *great* for that video. I'm excited.
