And I never used the teacup shot after all. Mergh. Maybe later in the vid... there are some stretches of randomness later to speed up the pace.
This song has been stuck in my head all day - I might do a vid to it sometime, but it's so damn freaking femmily perky that it would probably be insufferable to everyone but me. It's a random album cut by Erasure, "Love Is a Loser." I'd thought about doing a Gravitation vid to another song on that disc, "Oh L'Amour," but "Loser" has better energy - even though the lyrics don't work as well. Eh, well... maybe there's a remix of L'Amour that might move better.
Erasure + Gravitation is a given for me, someday; it was the first band I thought of when I saw the series, and that association has held till now. It's perkyperky uke music with sugary super-romantic lyrics that make little sense if thought about too hard. It just works.
Originally wanted to take on "Fingers & Thumbs (Cold Summer's Day)", but with a 13-ep series I don't think I could pull off a six-minute fast-paced tune.
Anyhow. Sleep, and I should probably leave BT on overnight. Have been getting a series for somebody lately.

Whee.

This is one reason why I love doing alternate-universe stuff: finding a way to match a line about "your parents" with a character who has no parents. AHAHAHAHA.
I probably need sleep.

No, the teacup shot was there after all.
So after SephirothJenova asked for a vid in MPEG to check out, I found myself watching not only "Villains" (the one I sent) but most of my old vids - really... really old vids - like, "I can't wait till I can get them off the DB and hate to even admit to having made them" old.
And you know... I kinda like 'em. O_o Part of it is nostalgia, of course. I remember all the frustration and energy that went into making them, and how exciting it was to get them finished. Part of it is the music - I'll forgive a lot in a vid if I really like the music, and most of my really old vids used favorites of mine. And I still think that the first vid everyone makes has a certain spark to it, because of all the ideas every viewer gets, *this* was the one to push you into trying to edit.
And part of it... at least most of the time, except for a couple of times where I felt like I was scrambling for *an* idea, I've tried to make things that I like. Even if nobody else likes them.
I wonder if that's narcissistic. I don't think it is. I don't equate editor with product that way - otherwise I couldn't enjoy vids by people who I dislike personally, or dislike vids by people I otherwise like. It doesn't seem fair to meld them like that. And my attitude isn't "Hey look at me, I made this, I rule!" - it's more like, "I remember making that. It was fun. God, that edit is clumsy. The song is good, though. And hey, that part there isn't so bad."
I don't even mind that terrible SOEX vid, even though I know its point doesn't get across, everybody but me hates the song and I wouldn't want to distribute it again. But I kinda like it. Matter of fact, it makes me want to pull out my terribly old fansubs and make another one, just for the hell of it. (Though I think there are better encodes on BT these days.)
I think I'm finally settling into being a resolute hobbyist and truly starting to like it. Failing getting into the con was depressing and messed me up for a while, and getting into multi-editor projects was a mistake, but you know... at the end of the day there's still something pretty or fun to watch that you didn't have before. That's all there is to it.
I'm not saying that that's the only way to do this, or that there's anything wrong with diving into the world of cons and contests. That's great if that's your thing. But this is the approach that works for me, I think.
'kay, off to watch some stuff.

You know you've been vidding too long when...
2004-01-01 23:44:12
...you find yourself yelling at the screen anything remotely like "Put that fucking teacup down!!"
Or maybe fatigue and editing just don't mix well in this instance. ;)
(I could swear that shot was in there... guess it was one of those phantom shots that exists only in my imagination. :P)

So, what from the holidays relates to AMVing? Hmm...
My sister and I reserved a room for Otakon. XD
I got the next to last disc of Utena for the extended-family gift exchange, which I belieeeeve marks the first time I've gotten anime as a gift. ^_^
And that's about it.
Have stayed up far, FAR too late tonight (2:30 on a work night!) messing with a newish project. Nothing serious, just having fun. I'm such a project-starting junkie lately. Oh well, I'm in the mood to kick some stuff around and see how it goes.
Still have no. clue. what to do with my FFVI Project track. I'd hate to bail on them, but I'm considering it. The bar for multieditor vids just keeps getting higher and higher, and I'm not into that kind of stuff. I don't *waaaaant* to keep up with the pack, because I am a lazy, lazy slug who just likes screwing around with half-finished projects way past her bedtime.
Meh, I'll think about it in the morning. More likely, in about two days, when the sleep deprivation of the last two days wears off.
