JOURNAL: SarahtheBoring (Sarah B')

  • That's it, it's done, pack it in. The end. 2004-04-05 23:09:44 You know, I'm going to finish my sappy love-triangle vid already. I've been picking at it for over half a year now, but you know, I was watching the test export and I *like* it. Just as it is, I like it. I may be the only person in the whole universe who does like it, but dammit, I don't care. I want to leave well enough alone, call it a day, pack it in, fin. The end.

"The Clouded Heart" will be #10. It is -yet another- Utena AMV, but it has nothing to do with Utena the character. Go fig. (I don't think she has one frame of exposure as it stands right now.) It's getting kind of late, so it won't be today, but I think I'll make a pact with myself to have it wrapped by the end of the week.

This isn't the one I had out as a beta last week; that one's still on, and is lined up to be #11. This is the one I was kvetching about maybe changing the music, a while back. Tch. I'll just finish it as it is. I like the song, I like the story. Beyond that, I don't care.

  • 2004-04-05 21:20:14 ...actually, I think the ones that brought on this bizarre little idea were "Lucy" (which I don't even like), "Getting Better", and "For the Benefit[etc]".

    Okay, okay, I'm done!

  • Lu la lu la... 2004-04-05 21:16:01 d'oh. By "real people" I meant live-action characters. (Though there is a large camp dedicated to omglikethey'resomakingoutbackstage, I'm choosing to not think about it.)

    Anyway.

You know, for all my squeeing over the release of AzuDaioh over here and all, I realized something - I've never had a viable AD AMV idea. I thought of that the other day while listening to a CD and thinking, you know, this is kind of an AD-ish CD. (...I... can't... be the only editor who does dorky stuff like that.) Yet I couldn't get any clear ideas of what could be done, just a general impression of the tone being similar. I guess that may come from the show's structure, but who knows.

The upshot is, even when I do get the whole set you're safe from a flood of sloppy Azu vids from me. I've cranked out more LJ user icons than the world needs from it; I think that and ferocious plugging are my only ahem, "contributions" to fandom.

    ...

...Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band. Shut up, you. "A Little Help from My Friends" would be adorable, and you know it. ;)

  • The other side of the fence 2004-04-03 22:24:50 Kind of an intriguing thing. Shows up some differences between groups of people, I think, too.

There's a convention - I'm not sure exactly what it is, but it's not anime. Might be a sci-fi convention. Anyway, to fund their con they're holding a video auction. People bid on a particular vid maker to make them a video to spec, with proceeds going to the convention. Y'know, like I'd put my name on the list, and someone else would sign up, "I'll bid $50 for StB to make me a Love Hina / Linkin Park video." And then the buyer gets credit along with the editor in the program, and in the credits etc. etc.

Dude, the AMV world would NEVER do this. Even for charity, I can never, ever see it. They take themselves far too seriously.

I think it's creative of the con organizers, though. It's more creative than jacking up ticket prices, at least. And it forces the editors to mix it up and possibly do something outside their usual grind (though they do list fandoms they work in).

Heh. Hey, if it were for charity, or even to fund a convention that I want to see succeed, I'd do a frigging LH/LP video. It'd be a challenge.

I like things like that, though. Stuff nobody would ever do. Like contests where people come up with song/series matches, and then everyone has to swap ideas and edit something other than what they came up with. I'm intrigued by seeing what different people do with similar concepts, too.

    I so don't fit here. ;)

I like keeping an eye on non-anime fanvidding, though. It's like Bizarroworld. A large percentage of videos are slash (that's... shounen-ai, only with real people), most editors are female and in their 20s or older, most work is distributed on DVDs rather than online - it's completely upside-down compared to AMVing. It makes an interesting contrast.

Strangely enough I don't think I would fit over there, either. Heh. Neither fish nor fowl. Story of my life.

So peoples, if anyone could send me more feedback on the beta I posted on LJ, I would be quite grateful. Thanks a lot. :)

  • Let Grandma school you for a second, kiddos. 2004-03-29 07:39:17 (I've apologized for flying off the handle last time, but this comes up A LOT, and I have to address the problem in general.)

Okay, here's the thing. I'll put it in a bulleted list, because I have to get to work.

    - Not everyone who's old is starchy and repressed. (I may be repressed, but I'm not starchy. Moreso in type than in person, but still.)
    - Females curse too. Horrors.
    - When you put "" marks around something, it means you are citing someone else's words or, in my case, improvising dialogue for a kind of character. It's like using the [quote] tag. Please review your third-grade grammar classes and learn this fact.
    - It's called sarcasm. Look into it.

I'm really tired of people jumping on every out-of-the-ordinary thing I say and going "LOL TEH OLD CHICK SED A BAD WORD!" or "LOL TEH 1337SPEEK!!!" and quoting it in their sigs. Yes, I swear a lot in type, particularly when stressed (and the org puts me under a little stress just about all the time). And I do overuse sarcasmoleet, but nobody understands that IT IS FUCKING *SARCASM,* YOU MORONS.

    ...sorry, got carried away.

Anyway. People come in all sorts in this world, and it doesn't say much about you (general, plural) that you're shocked!! that I don't fit into your little boxed expectation of what I should be. I write strangely; I am often sarcastic. That's just how I am, and there is nothing unusual about that. I'm not the only one. I may be the first you've seen, but again, that says more about you than about me. Just get over it.

I have to get to work, like, *right now*, but I had to give a little speech on that.
