My program drive punked out last Saturday; I just got my computer back for the first time in a week.
Yes, that means I missed ALL the AWA videos - that is, everything anyone cares about for this entire freakin' year - and now I have to catch up, like, now.
With no codecs installed yet.
Yay?
At least I can take breaks in installing programs by watching videos. Heh.

The Wakaba video isn't challenging me, and thus I'm bored. ARGH.
I may wait for Gravi 3 & 4 to come out to launch another major project, after all.
Sigh. I really hate not being able to get into this stuff. Though then, I've always had back-burner projects, test runs, and half-finished ideas everywhere.
It also helps to work up a particular challenge to myself. The last one was "fast-for-me instrumental video." Before that was "make everything look like the intro to a 70s sitcom" (which I didn't, but it drove the project), one I didn't quite mean to finish, and "tell this story with a lyric that has absolutely nothing to do with the series."
And on and on. I thought this one would be a challenge because it's a "couple" that isn't really a couple, but it turns out that that's actually too easy for these two.
So specific technical/stylistic challenge to myself + song with good energy + series I love = good shot at finishing something.
...
My cousins still haven't given back my Trigun DVDs. They've had them for like 6 months at this point. :p Apparently the 15-year-old has bought the manga as well, so I'm not complaining - I'm always happy to evangelize. Still. I... kinda... want to work with that series again sometime in my life, y'know?
It's all very cute. It's fun being The Supplier. Mreheheh. Unfortunately, most of the other stuff I own is either too young (Totoro) or too old (Hellsing) or WAYYYYYY too girly (YnM) to lend.
Anyway. I think I know what I'll tackle first when I get those back (the challenge here is Yes, StB CAN Do Hetero AMVs) - either that or wait till Gravi is out, as mentioned, to go after my two ideas there.
Blah blah blah-dee blah, blah blah blah.
Oh, right, my PSA.
I would love to hear if anyone knows an already-in-use term, whether official or fannish, for the loose genre of action AMVs targeted to older girls/women (Saiyuki, Weiss Kreuz, Yami no Matsuei, probably X by the looks of it). Many of them have slashy overtones, but that doesn't address the general tone of them, which is "action aimed at women." I've started calling them 3G anime - gay guys with guns - or PBG, prettyboys with guns, which is a bit less smartassy.
We all know of shounen romance by now - a notch below ecchi, stuff like Love Hina and Tenchi - but the inverse is a fuzzy grouping at best. I think it needs a name. "Shoujo action" conjures up sparkles and pink hearts, which isn't usually the case.

Nobody on the org has done a video with the sublime mid-90s angstfest that is Live's "I Alone"? Oy. If I remember to hit a used CD store sometime in the near future, I will have to attempt to remedy that. Now I feel lame for selling my copy of Throwing Copper ages ago. Little did I know I'd WANT every CD I ever owned. :p
(NTS. "Because I don't want to look at the real ones." Yeah, wouldn't it be fun? Terribly angsty, lame, and off-canon, but fun!)

DVD drive back, CD-ROM kaput, not much of a problem.
As for projects, the prep work for that manga one will take ages, so that's ongoing - but screw the other AMV ones for now; I'll do the Wakaba one. I put a little bit down a while ago, to play with the idea, and it was fun. Fun, simple, doesn't require ripping/scanning through an entire series, focused - that sounds good. I had thought about another Black Rose one, more upbeat this time, but the subject was just too broad. I'm not in the mood to do a general sort of video. I'd rather do something specific.
Blah blah blah. Anyhoo.

oh, and: as soon as my computer decides to recognize either the CD-ROM or DVD drive.
'cause otherwise I have no music. ;)
It's been sporadic at recognizing the DVD drive, and I think the CD drive is dead. I've been putting off telling my dad about it (he built my computer and fixes it for me out of the goodness of his heart, albeit with a lot of lecturing and guilt-tripping), because that would involve taking it away for at least a week.
*sniffle* NOoOOOoooOO!
:P bite the bullet, Sar.
