  • Indirect Link, gooooood! Direct Link, baaaaaad! 2001-12-30 14:28:56 <rant=blow off steam>

To all those who have been complaining about the new indirect links, TOO BAD! Some unsavory types were direct linking my server. Extremely bad manners, indeed! Indirect links were necessary to ensure that I can continue to offer AMVs with maximum convenience to the AMVdotORG members.

The people to blame are those who spoiled the party for the rest us :(

  • Long time, no see Journal Buddy! Updates galore! 2001-12-29 20:59:51 Sorry about being away for so long. Take note: Working yourself to the point of burnout is NOT worth it. Not worth anything in the world. EVER!

And so, all rested and fresh from a nice bounce in the padded cell :P ...I write a journal for the first time in 3 months.

    Updates:
AMV projects - all in planning, shot list, clip rip & special effect development (of course in various stages of disarray) All work and no AMV makes Aokakesu sad ;_; I'm glad I have relaible SCSI drives to hold all this valuable info. Sadly, I discovered that my premiere skills have deteriorated when I opened it this week. This is definitely one of those program which is NOT like riding a bike.

Webpage - Me gots new page fer da wurld to see! Yeehaw!
    http://aokakesudigital.go.dyndns.org
I've made new MPEG1 encode of Odorikuruu available on the site, so now there's a choice between compactness or universality.

E-Mails - I'm currently wading through the piles of fan mail. No matter how old the e-mail, I'll answer it!

Elissa - Of course, my devotion to my job >.< kept me away from the e-mail piles and any possiblity of response to this odd turn of events. I only had one more transaction since the first one with Elissa. This latest one goes as follows:

    >Hi Thanx for your email.
    >To be honest with you, I havn't had
    >the chance to try it out yet because
    >we've been really busy with the Euro
    >Freestyle Invasion party coming up at
    >the docs night club.
    >I'll let you know when I can see it...
    >I'm really eager to do so.

    >Thanx
    >Elissa

Inconclusive, but at the time it jived with the fact that there was a major Euro Freestyle concert upcoming at The Docks (a very cool looking nightclub right on the Toronto waterfront) Since then, nothing. Who knows? Maybe she's just as busy as I was over the past months. Maa Ika '_'

Odorikruu - #1 on the AMVdotORG list?! I refuse to blink, just in case the image fades away. Now, I've always maintained that lists and statistics can be easily loaded and should be taken with a grain of salt. However, I could't help but feel a little thrilling shiver go up my spine when I saw that AMV sitting at number one o_O!

I can take some comfort in the fact that this too shall pass. The statistical 'godlike' numbers that Kevin Caldwell held on the AMVdotORG Top List seemed insurmountable, destined to stay at head of the pack. But after this turn of events, I am certain that something more spectacular will eventually grab the eyes and ears of the AMV fans and Odorikuruu will fade into AMV history.
  • fuck.... 2001-10-17 20:20:45 Yeah, I know you want to read about the latest and greatest AMV adventures of Aokakesu Digital...but instead you're going to read the following -_-*

The edict has been passed up from the bowels of hell(a.k.a. The place where I subject myself to wave slavery)...a minimum 60 hour work week with manditory Saturdays "until further notice" (a popular managerial code word that we in the maintenance department know very well, "Get used to it. This is now law")

Any scrap of emotion that I have ever felt for this company had completely vapourized at that moment except for a generalized mind-numbing fatigue. The only thing that is faintly (barely)attractive now is the paycheque.

I know what this change means to me. Work. Eat. Sleep. No AMV. No Fansubbing. No...no...no...everything.

    Good god.
I'm so utterly depressed right now.

I think I'll update my resume.

  • ...and far weirder things have happened to far more normal people than I. 2001-10-15 21:59:18 the story so far...

October 10th, I received the most unusual e-mail ever. The following is the cut & paste:
(detailed e-mail routing/return info deleted to protect the innocent, guilty and everyone in between)

    -------
    Hi Jay,

I was surfing the internet yesterday and I stumbled over your wonderful video of my song.
The only problem is, for some reason after download, I do not have the proper settings on my computer to actually view it, I can only hear the song.

Do you think it would be at all possible to have you either send it to me, or you could tell me another way it can be viewed on the internet. I would really like to show my manager what you have done.

It was really nice of you and I am flattered.

    Thank You,

    Elissa
    -------

Needless to say, my first reaction was a suitable, "What the quck?!". It took a while for the ol'logical gears to kick in and formulate a response which took about an hour to write after the usual DivX FAQ:
(detailed e-mail info and DivX FAQ info deleted for berevity)

    ------
In the many years I've been entangled in the various incarnations of the Internet, I've developed a healthy skepticism of most of what I see there. Please try to put yourself in my situation - A common AMV producer suddenly being contacted by the artist of a song used in an AMV o_O. The implications had me losing a few hours of sleep last night ;)
I do not mean to be disrespectful when I ask the following question... Can you prove that you are who you say you are? Please understand that the nearly anonymous nature of e-mail makes deception a simple matter of a few keystrokes. Again, no disrespect is intended here, just plain curiousity.

and be sure to let me know if the DivX information I provided worked :)
    ------
I replied on October 11th and I await a response.

As you can see I was being -very- careful with my choice of words.

What was I doing during the aforementioned lost sleep time? Asking myself some questions, coming up with plausible scenarios and doing a bit of research. The 'net definitely is a great place for gathering info :)

    First the scenarios:
    (1) Someone is messing with me.
    (2) A number of lawyers representing the record label are looking for something to eat.
    (3) This e-mail is completely legit.

Now #1 is the most likely possibility. Geez, minna-san. Hasn't everyone been bombarded with a billion e-mail bits of scams, pyramid schemes, propoganda and falsehoods? A healthy skepticism is essential when it comes to the 'net...but then I did some digging.
What are the chances of Elissa actually finding Odorikuruu? Quite good actually. Plugging in "Elissa + mamboleo" into a few search engines turned up a surprising number of hits concerning my AMV. Okay, so it's very visible. (Score for scenario #2 & #3) Ti Amo Records (Elissa's lable) is based in Woodbridge, Ontario - only a 1.75 hour drive from here, near North York/Toronto. As well, Elissa was born and raised in T.O. It's a stretch, but geography has created stranger coincidences than this. (Score for scenarios #2 & #3)

Believe me, I don't want anything to do with scenario #2, though being the only AMV creator known to have been taken to court would be a unique claim to fame, albiet something no one would ever want to deal with. Again, scenario #1 is most certain...but there's that nagging feeling that #3 is still alive and kicking....

    Now, wouldn't that be interesting?

The moment I figure out what's going on, an update will be posted here. So stay tuned to this channel.

  • Twink-Boy managers have no concept of reality! 2001-10-13 11:30:45 MAJOR BIYATCH SESSION WARNING!

Been a while since I entered anything here, but with good reasons. I haven't been able to AMV, subtitle or even keep up with e-mail between working, eating and sleeping. The uber-twinks running the locale where I perfom my daily feats of wage slavery have completely lost their minds!

The simple version of this sordid tale of office politics, penny pinching and total lack of the concept of time deals with the installation of a new production line at the foundry. Basically, there's enough work for three electicians and four millwrights...and there's only one of each of us in the maintenance department >.< It would appear that we're a "bunch of slackers" with our 10 & 12 hour workdays, thus the project is behind schedule. To quote twink-boy #1, our maintenance manager H.Botten, "You should be staying later and working weekends to get this done". I won't worry about slander here. twink-boy doesn't even know what an 'Internet' is. I certainly do not see twink-boy and his coven of blind idiots staying late to help nor do I see any contribution when they fail follow through on the supply orders we submit for this installation, forcing us to take care of the parts orders as well. This new line installation has been physically and mentally demanding, as we design and fabricate this from scratch. After 8 hours we're burned out and the demoralizing "support" of our managers -really- helps our situation 9_9. Mentally demanding? Yes, we in the maintenance department do the design work for the equipment and its installation. We're engineers and skilled trades. Jack of all trades and king of nothing.

Needless to say, here I am this Saturday morning typing this rant. I'll continue witholding overtime until I'm directly ordered and threatened with diciplinary actions.

    No concept of reality.
