  • Congratumalations to Kadaj 2006-02-28 00:03:15 Seem to be doing a whole heap of congratulating this week... I guess that must mean I'm in the presence of greatness :D

Yup, Kadaj... now I can add another star to your profile on Amvience forums XD

    You done good ^_^
  • A Lesson in Compression 2006-02-27 08:51:02 Ok... I'm planning on writing a small bit of theory on how compression works... something simple, yet detailed enough to be possibly useful... I'm talking mainly general compression, but I will touch upon specifics of mpeg2 and XviD compressions as well.

I just want to write some thoughts down now before I make sense of what I want to talk about.

The best compression occurs in the least amount of details, which is intuitive enough. But details in an image is a fickle thing. It may be the pattern of bricks on a far off shot of a house, it may be the individual strands of hair or leaves on a tree... it might be the particles, or noise, or other errors like colour diffusion, rainbow effects, etc.

An encoder will have a much more fun time compressing a single large "clean" piece of picture than one which is near an edge, littered with unwanted "details" and constantly changing.

There's the logical way you can look at this... there's also the technical way, which is quite useful too. See, in an encoder, like for example an mpeg2, pixels are encoded separately if the whole picture is full of differing details (ie. each pixel is different from each other). The beauty of mpeg2 encoding is that if there is a big field of similar pixels, a proper encode could contain the data describing that entire flat block of similar pixels on just 1 pixel... 99% of information to describe an entire screen could be fitted into one pixel.

Ok... I think I have something to work with now :P
  • before I forget... 2006-02-26 17:20:30 Thanks Sub0 for the congratulations ^_^ Good thing you're on my buddy list otherwise I wouldn't have seen it :P

And to everyone else who I might have missed... thanks!

And I don't think I wrote on the journals yet, but CONGRATUMALATIONS RINA!!!!!!!!!!!
  • attention whore 2006-02-26 07:02:07 It's fun baiting for responses...

I'm not too sure that many people realise who the person who made Anime Academy Heroes is in the AI Con forums, so I'm currently fishing around, looking for someone who mentions anything about the competition, and trying to hook them in to say more... ah man, I've been pimping for far too long XD
  • Should I ever doubted it would happen? 2006-02-25 08:53:40 Wow... I mean... wow...

    First top 10%

Now winner of Fan Favourite at AI Con (Hobart, Australia)...

I so hope my friends aren't just shitting me when they called at 5PM this afternoon when they were announcing the winners... ^_^

And you know what? I've got even more awesome news!

Song 3 of the Piyush Juneja - Nine Tailed Mix has won Judges Award there too! So if there's ever been a doubt in your mind about downloading this video, I say it's about time you re-think that and listen to the crowd :D
