well ok i'm not technicly in differential equations this time. but i am in the same chair i will be for the class in an hour. i just happen to have some free time so i though "what the hell i'll see if i can get the thing written *before* class starts"
today has been an intresting one. i've spent most of today running around seeing (if i really want to / what i need to do) to change majors from mechincal engineering to industrial desgin. while at first glance you might thing the programs are simular, they or quite not. its actualy a hugh jump. the biggest obstical would be that i need a drawing/art portfolio, and considering i've spent all of my time with math and physics, i have no such portfolio. while i do draw quite a bit, and theres a number of people who thing i'm pretty good (i am not one of them). i have no formal trainning, and therefore no portfolio. beside that, half the drawings i do i do on tempory surfices, like whiteboards, sidewalks, my math notes, ect. so to correct this, this summer i'm going to be taking my first real drawing calsses. hopefully this will be the first step on the road to becoming something one could call an artist.
i walked through the industral desgine department and just looked a the facilities and student projects. and just dong that made me feel more like i *should* offically transfer, i just got a good feeling about it. it helps that they have th best view on camups (and a patio the extends onto the roof of building 7b). also while walking around a friend of mine thats also in the anime culb was taking a tour of the area for when he transfers in. funny coincidence huh? i wonder what his portfolio is like.
the reason i did all of this today is because registration for fall classes for me is tomorrow at 6:30am so i thought it would be a good idea to see somethings for myself, mabe make the descion once and for all. while th descion hasn't been *completely* made. i do feel better about it, and seeing how this drawing class goes this summer may cement it. its just i'm not really enjoying my major, and the though that i might spend the rest of my engineering career making mathmatical modules of windsheld wipers itsn't a very pleasent one either. maybe i shold just retire now and get it over with.
i just remembered something. i saw in the students art gallery there was a desgin for a type futurestic bike/car thing that actualy had a dynamic form. i'd have to say its a very good desgine, but that wasn't what origanly cought my attention. next to the model he put a figure of Kanada from Akira, that was the same scale as his model. i nearly laughed my ass off right there.
something a little more on topic. dusk-til-dawn was a HUGE.......flop. there was like 8 people there. i would have to blame it one the fact that they didn't advertise almost at all. the only place they put up fliers was in the dorms. only first year students really see thos. so all the 2nd,3rd,4th,5th, and commuter students never heard of it. i was going to do the music videos but the person who was going to show the fansubs couldn't so i took his place and had a fellow studio member do the music videos. so togeather our computers ran side by side from 1pm to 4am. mine showing series like hikaru no go, angelic layer, hellsing, (and something else i can't remember now) , and his showing just about all of his videos. (the good ones anyway) the place was so empty that a couple times people started playing frisby. only one guy who was playing video games actually got hit when someone was unable to catch the disk.
you knwo i think i'm the only person that can walk out of an arcade with more tokens then walk in with (without having to spend money that is). i played one game of DDR and while i wa waiting in line i went over to "the lost world" shooting game. i put one token in, and it got stuck. hearing that there were more coins still in the machine i took my watchband and started poking around. when i hit the coin return 10 tokens came out, and 3 fell into the machine. aparently them machine had been jammed for a while and no one bothered to fix it. lucky me. its not even the first time this type thing has heppened (how do you think i knew to use my watch band).
you know this entery is gitting pretty long.... hmm i didn't really mean for that to happen. oh well i guess it means i just happened to do a lot today. oops, i hink i fell asleep.... (not that you can tell anyway) well thats my plan fo when i get home anyway. going to bed WAY early tonight, get as much sleep as possable considering i've had 8 hours in thee days. dman sleeping doesn;t make the class go faster.
you know i actualy *want* finals to get here so we can get this whole damn year overwith, it really hasn't been that enjoyable. hell i can't even think of the classes i took this fall. -

you know i really don't have a real reason to write in this today. but damn i'm really starting to like this thing.
today is a fun one. theres my 9am class as usual. for some reason i've been completely unable to get out of bed on time for the last 2 weeks. it's not that i don't like the class or anything, i just can't get out of bed until i look at my clock and see i only have 30 minutes till the class starts (i live off campus). the class im in now is gemotric dimentioning and tolerancing (GD&T) and entire class dedacated to "how to lable drawings". well at least its an easy A. its actualy not that bad. right now my project is to measure, draw in PROengineer (a CAD like program), and GD&T a LEGO block. you have to admit out of all posable projects that one far from sucks. oh and if you were wondering a lego block needs around 27 dimentions and notes to make a complete drawing. After this class i get to go to work. and luck for me today is the second busyest of the year. (yesterday was the busyest, but i wasn't on the schedule so dodged a bullet there). Oh yes lets not forget my oh so ever enjoyable Dynamics test. he actually gives us 4 hours to take the test, and some people use it! we only have three tests for the entire course so they're kinda big each time they roll around. i'm happy anime club is right after i get done with the test. what better way to unwined. tonight we're showing full metal panic. i havn't seen that before so it'll be fun.

the golden doughnut idea makes me happy, i just fear people are just going to "want" to pay, but just end up stiffing Phade, this = massive badness.

its not often i;m completely baffled by something but this one is a winner.
i work part time for the admissions office of the college i attend. today i found myself in front of one of the program secrataries with the intent to help file things. she sid to me "before we start, do you know the alphabet?"
now heres the thing.... i'm your average tall white american guy, named Andrew. I could possably understaind this qestion of my name was lakjdn thnasdi, and a forgen sudent or something, but as is oh my &^%@*!# GOD! how stupid a question is that!
and solely for the resaon that i'm a smart-ass i said, (while managing a straight face) "no". at this point i was expecting *some* kind of disbeleief, but NO. she just looked righ at me and said," ok what we're going to do is give you a card to work with....."
SHE BELIEVED ME!?! at that point i had to just look at her and say "you know i'm kidding right?" apparently there are people out there who don't know H comes before I. like i said icouldunderstand the person has only been speaking englihsfor like 3 years but a peron who has obviously spent they're entire lives in an english speaaking country?! there's no excuse! how te hell could someone not know the alphabet? didn't you go to kindergarden? or were you too filled with riddlin?!
the whole idea is way too borthering to me.... so i filed the folders and also happened to find 5 missfiled folders. you would think the fact that they're color coded would help too......
i think i'm scared for life now. -

well i spent a good two hours just reading the forums on the golden dougnut, and the stupidly long H-vid thing. at this point i guess its fair to say i don't read the forums that often. this next area of text (marked by dashlines) is going to be my comment on the whole H-vid thing. so you can skip it if you want. (i wouldn't blame you)

"if a tree falls in the woods and no one is around to hear it, does it make a sound?" the legendary unanswerable question. it amazes me that there are still arguments about this. its a question thats been around for thousands of years, and no one has ever come up with a single true answer. but people come along and all of a sudden *they* think they have the answer, an answer no one has thought of in all the years phlosiphers, scientists, and every other person has thought about this question.
this is as good an analigy for the whole pornagraphy and media and people's *precieved* rights, as i can think of. its been something thats been around as long as theres been media. someting tells me that no matter how much people talk, bitch, complaine, moan, shout, mutter, flame, spam, jabber, squak, rip, or post, the grandious solution to the whole peopblem is NOT going to be reached (or anyting close for that matter). and pecause of this fact i'm not even going to say what i think should be the polices regarding H-vids. i will however comment on how it appears people are comming up with they're arguments.
first i'll start with the person who was stupid enought to bring it up. in the FIRST post he says that he personally doesn't like H-vids, thats an opinion its something that has no releviance about what something actually *is*, but i'll get back to that fact later. first lets look at his motives for wanting someting done about HMVs on AMV.org. he comments that it seems every where he looks on the cite he sees more and more H-vids. this is something we have to take his weord for considering we are not in possestion of his eyeballs and therefor connot really know what he sees. he then uses this to state that its too easy for minors to get H-videos, and "something" should be done. it is possable to assume oen of several things from this statment. 1) he wants H-vids to be banned fromt the site, or 2) he wants people to stop makeing H-vids, or 3) minors should not be allowed to download these (and possably other) videos.
it maybe reasonable to follow this logic (though this may sertinaly not be the case): someone who doesn't like H-vids is finding more and more of them on a faverate AMV cite of his. he is made unhappy by this, he would like to see that there are fewer of these videos on the cite. if he were to complain and say "hey i don't like these vids, can you not post them?" he would be laughed across the river and made the town fool. but if he could say that theres a *moral* reason to stop posting H-vids, he would have to be listened to. we can also abserve that it wasn't till that there were a "large" number of these videos that he decided "something had to be done" if it was the existance of these videos that bothered him he would have said something after the first video he saw, and more then likly wrote directly to Phade, but he only said something when he coudn't personally avoid them anylonger, at which point instead of talking only to the person that could do something about anything, he made a big stink in the forums addressing every one at once. maybe just in the hope people would accept it blindly and stop making videos. this is not what happened. instead he got a lot of people saying "@#$% NO!" at which point he knew he would no longer be able to get "his way" forcing him to accept the first thing to come along that even resembles what he originally wanted in order not to look like the complete fool he was trying to avoid in the first place. ~ if that senernio fits what actually took place, then his motives were misplaced, and baced only on his opinion of H-videos which i said before has no baring on what it actualy *is*. if that is not the case, then only his method was in error.
now lets turn a our attention to the other side of the argument. there's as much missguided selfishness on this side of the argument as any other. the first response that came out of people with just the *idea* that it maybe more difficult for them to get H-vids (which wether you like it or not are considered pornography by law) was was outrage and blind defence. st which time they brought forwad every possable fustifacation of why falls into some catagory that is supposeted to be protected form alagations of "not allowable" such as "art", "free expression", and "catagoration of *all* videos" useing every analogy posable to prevent something that they don't *want* to happen, not to prevent something that *shouldn't* happen. none of the people protesting the idea of any kind of limitation on these videos were people that came out and said the they didn't like H-vids and were only speaking for the case of "free speach". an opinion of a person like that is far more creditable because they looked at the issue with out involving there personal opinion of the type of media in question. unfortionatly such a person is a rareity, and unapparent in the formentioned forum. on the contrary most of the people were the creators and frequent viewers of said material, thus making them extreamlly biased. and biased (either way) is the worst thing possable went trying do decide what is "right"
all in all this argument was a waste of that grey matter in our heads that supposedly holds "intelagence". and i recomend people look at themselves and they're motives before they even try to solve an unanswerable puzzle.
