Well I had a half day of school today which I would've loved to spend doing something fun but instead I fell asleep in my bed and stayed that way from 1:00 to 5:00 when I woke up and thought it was morning. o_O
I guess that's the best way to spend your day during a week when you've gotten an average of four hours of sleep every day but it doesn't quite feel that way when you wake up with a splitting headache. Oh well, it's the kind that goes away quickly.
Still busy with these damn college applications, I'd better be done with them before the weekend ends.
It's been too long since I've watched anime, I feel like I'm getting cut off from it, I need to watch something new. Hmmmm, maybe Macross? I haven't seen much of that yet...
I'd also like to buy a CD or two this weekend. Music is for the this time of year, this year what graphic novels were for me this time of year, last year, something that swallows money all the time, there is no satisfaction, I must keep buying...
Maybe I should slow down and just rent a ton of anime this weekend...
*posts journal entry and wanders away from his computer wondering what he's going to do with his weekend*

I've decided to try and make this journal more of an actual journal rather than just a place I get to update my AMV progress (or more commonly, lack thereof).
Haloween was going to be a boring homework night like any other. Fortunetely, I ended up with a bunch of friends at one of their houses. We watched Brotherhood of the Wolf which I (and most of us) hadn't seen before (more on the movie further down).
I was hoping to get some candy off my little sister since I don't trick or treat anymore...and it seems like I'm better off not doing it. I've had very little candy today and I'm already sick of it. I guess that must mean I'm growing up, I'm actually finding Milky Ways and Kit Kats less desirable. o_O
I've become so addicted to music this year that nowadays I tend to pick a CD or band and listen to it throughout the day whenever I get an opportunity. Today it was Green Day that I listened to, I really like the songs Longview, Welcome to Paradise and Pulling Teeth which are tracked in a row on the Dookie CD.
Now about Brotherhood of the Wolf. I left the movie and my friends house when it was over thinking it was somewhere between "good" and "okay." At first I felt that it didn't have many particularly serious faults but then I kept thinking of faults. Here's what I thought of:
---MINOR SPOILER ALERT---
1. The movie mixes too many genres, this works in some movies but in this one it was a slightly bumpy ride. It starts out kind of like Sleepy Hollow, looking like a horror/mystery/supernatural movie, at the very beginning the "beast" is really scary, he's attacking a helpless woman and is invisible at the time, this made quite an impression and the movie spends forty minutes to an hour building up our suspense and fear of the beast while driving the plot forward. But then we see the beast and it quickly looses its fear factor because the movie cuts off the horror aspect and becomes more of an action/fantasy movie.
2. The really annoying thing about the movie however (to me) is the way it incorporates martial arts. Miles of deadly serious dialogue are broken by stagey, martial arts fighting scenes which really don't fit into the movie IMHO. And after building the story up for two hours they decide to climax the movie with, surprise surprise, a BIG martial arts fighting scene! This felt totally anti-climactic to me. All that time spent on the story and it gets resolved with a fighting scene? Pffffff!!! >_<
3. Also, I wasn't too fond of any (except one) of the characters (though some of the women were cute!^_^). They didn't at all annoy me like characters in SOME French movies have but I just didn't much care for them. I also thought that the character Mani, an Iroquois martial arts fighter, in spite of how cool some of my friends thought he was, didn't have much personality. He took place in most of the mind-blowing fight scenes and acted mysterious but I got little idea for what his personality was like, it seemed to be clouded with fighting and mystique. The only "character" I really had much interest in, and actually felt sorry for at one point, was the "wolf," but enough said about that.
Nonetheless, the movie was far from awful, it was never too unpleasant to watch and it held my interest (inspite of how overlong it is). Though I'll admit, I really didn't follow the plot to closely, as I wasn't paying all that much attention to it, I could tell that it was a good storyline well above the depth and complexity of 97% of all action movies. There was plenty of female nudity in the first half to keep me quite interested ^_^ The acting seemed decent and I give credit to a movie that is based on a true story and doesn't brag about it like at least every other American thriller seems to.
I think all together I didn't much care for the movie but I'll admit, it had its plusses. French movies generally don't seem to work for me, especially when they try to incorporate hollywoodized entertainment qualities whether it's chase scenes (Diva), Ally McBeal quirkyness (Amelie) or martial arts (this movie). However, I do wonder if like a lot of French movies, I'll eventually decide I hate it. Only time will tell...

Super Sapien, nice to know you like Noir, stick with it. By about the tenth episode they stop showing all the flashbacks, the story gets a lot more interesting and the characters gradually become more likable. Get used to the song though, you'll be hearing it alot ;)

*Is indulging in VAST's Music For People*
Thought I'd update because it's been over two weeks before I posted anything in my journal.
Fluxmiester - you're probably not going to read this but thanks for giving me Ultimate Super Mario Bros. Remix for the NES project(assuming you were the only one who assigned the remixes), I'm happy with it! :)
I'm about 2:10 out of about 3:30 of the video I'm working on, I wanted to finish it this weekend but I won't be able to because I was busy visiting colleges and I'll be writing an essay for an application today (I hate hate hate HATE HATE being a senior!).
I spent the road trips with Weezer, Our Lady Peace, Green Day, VAST and the Flaming Lips though, so I had a decent time.
Cross-country is finally over *sigh of relief* maybe I can get some more editing done now, and hopefully finish my big AMV project (a.k.a not the one I'm working on currently) before the end of the year.
I also have this crazy idea for a monsterous Love Hina AMV that I've had stuck in my head for months and months. It'll take forever to make but I just can't give up the idea of doing it, I love the song so much. Hopefully I'll get the dvds for Christmas so I can get started.
Hmmmm, not too much else to speak of so I guess it's off to application work...
