JOURNAL: Mechaman (Scott Francis)

    COMEDY GOLD.

For some reason, I'm reminded of the Ecchi Attack! MB. Even though Lago and RPD float above it like hentai versions of Mike Toole, most of the rest of the board appear to be rejects from Something Awful("Cutepet sucks! They don't give away their work for free!")

..er, so I like Minako and Jared and their work. Is that a crime? :x

In other news, a college friend is getting hitched this weekend. I picked up my tux, and now I have to ponder what to do with him tonight when I pick him up from the airport. It needs to involve alcohol. I've had the weirdest image of getting blitzed at Gameworks, and taking on all oncomers at VOOT with Grys-Vok, while singing the Spiderman theme song--Ramones version, of course...

  • UNO. DOS. TRES. CINQUO. 2002-05-21 11:33:02 "Ore wa, Lupin-sensei".

Done with a video that was supposed to take only a weekend. Ah, what the hell. I'm going to work.

  • 2002-05-20 03:53:34 Ami: T&K looks really neet. I'm going to seriously start thinking about looking for it.
I totally sympathize with not being able to even spend $10; not having a job yet, it's hard to justify _any_ sort of entertainment purchase around my folks.
It also irritates me because I'm missing out on grabbing DC games before they go rare; in addition to grabbing a few GNs. "The Coffin" and "Heavy Liquid" GNs I only saw once, and I really need to catch up on Transmetropolitan GNs.

Anyway. Weekend was a blitz of Star Wars; playing the Jedi Knight 2 demo(it's sinfully fun to just run through the demo shoving guards and droids via Force Push off of high ledges, let alone sabering them up), vowing to get the game(to hell with disruption of work ethic), and viewing of AotC.
AotC wasn't too bad. I agree with Brian Wright; Lucas is pretty much giving the same of what was in the first trilogy--it's just that so much has changed in the meantime, that it all seems cliche now. I think Ebert's got something noting that the 35mm prints seem a bit off, though. Must watch in Cinerama to make sure.

    Best "Was anyone else.." moments:
..about to break into "Sound of Music" when Julie..er, Amidala, appears in the fields?
..wishing they could see Jango's expression during his final fight with Windu? ("Haha!..wait..shit. Ha...shit. shit. shit sh-THUNK")
..thinking that Christopher Lee was channeling the spirit of Cmdr. Adama, and that the clones looked awfully like Cylons?
..asking "When the hell did R2 get Robbie-Rocketpants and start Junior Bird-manning his way around??"

Bonus to anyone who gets that joke.

  • Wee-can-be-heeeeroooss.. 2002-05-14 16:23:03 I'm most likely trapped at work until 7pm; since the boss wants us for a Combustion demonstration. "And you need to be there, since you're the most experienced out of all of us!". Whee.
    Not so busy that I can't do AnimeJump parody pictures in the meantime;

Saw Spider-Man on Saturday, was sufficiently entertained. I guess Ebert had to pick on one thing in it, and he chose the CG. I really didn't find anything at fault except for the second cable-car drop(MJ looks like she's just kind of floating near the cable). Match-moving is really getting big in the industry.
That's something a lot of people don't get. Sure, it can be (relatively)easy to do the 3D, but integrating it into the action without it looking awful is another large kettle of fish entirely. For examples, see "Invasion America", and AIC's early experiments.

The "quick, quick, quick" ROD video is turning into an enjoyable exercise in beat-matching. I don't know why the Pizzicato Five Lupin remix should work as well as it does, but there you go. As a friend said last night on #virtualon, "they're both fast and funny, and the fast pace keeps you from going 'what the hell does this have to do with lupin?'"

  • BANG 2002-05-10 20:41:49 EK: Much obliged!
I didn't know there was a third Punch The Monkey!--for some reason I could only find the first two by Googling.
I'm off to slip a VCD of videos into the local anime club's watch list, and see if they notice the Molly Star-Racer pilot in there. Fwoo!
