"everybody happy? well, I'll soon change that!"

Nothing, really.
Installed W2K(+SP3) over the weekend, smoove as silk now. Mozilla rocks. Dropped in a DVD drive, since I was bored, and shocked to find it came RPC-1 out of the box. My system feels like new again.
Windows iPods are almost here. With that, A:M 10.0, and some other miscellaneous software(and chucking the rest of the cash into a 6-month savings bond), it'll finally be time to looking into Seattle apartments.
But for now, I think I'll pick up a copy of GTA3 tomorrow. HL's run completely out of steam(har!) for me, and I feel like vehicular tomfoolerly. I was worried about system req's, but they don't seem to require any GeForce hoo-haa to run. I love my G400, damnit.
Plus, I HAVE to see the "give everyone a weapon" and the "RIOT!" cheat codes in action. What State of Emergency was meant to be?

"Am I just dumb and horny?"

I've been strongly thinking about a portable music solution, after spending entirely too long on the bus, and switching CDs constantly at work. Apple's 10Gb iPod is looking very tasty, with the "Windows-compatible" versions out next month:
1. It holds every CD I have so far, with the promise of holding at least a sizeable percentage of any future additions to my music library. And that at 160+ kbps. No, I really can't hear too much more of an advantage when going over 200 kbps. :P
2. FireWire means never having to regret swapping entire albums.
3. Insanely easy to use, can shuffle by albums/songs, and because it's Apple, built solid+cute.
Gives me an excuse to drop a FireWire card into this machine, and browse eBay for a Sony DV bridge. Hopefully MusicMatch is comparable to all the good things I've heard about iTunes.
...does anyone really read this? Can I break into "Springtime for Hitler", and will people applaud?

"Fire! Fire! Fire!"

I love multi-beam frigates in Cataclysm. Seeing the little devils plunging in firing beams in all directions gives me a warm feeling. Especially when they chew through enemy fighters/cruise missiles like hot knives.
The AI in Cataclysm sometimes annoys the hell out of me; if ships are moving, they aren't as "aggressive" if you TELL them to be aggressive, so sometimes they just take a hit uncomplainingly. Which is BAD, because if it's a cruise missile, you just gained another enemy. Blah. I hate fighting Borg-ish enemies.
Job is picking up, but hampered by the fact that I'm expected to be a conduit between people who should be talking to each other(over electronic documents), but aren't. All I want to do is just sit, listen to CDs, and crank out forms for the nice people.
MC: Generally because..well..er..most workplaces have good dental. At least around here; Washington seems to have a good vibe for health care systems.
Paying money out to an independent agency's a bitch and a half though; the COBRA guys I had to pay after I was no longer covered under my dad's company(after I got out of college) thought nothing of just casually raising my rate a few hundred. Bastards.
And of course, I'm still reading as well. ;)

"omega boost, it's all set, carry out the mission carefully!"

GRAR.
Multi-warhead journal attack!
-Job. Really boring so far, in that the supervisor is waiting for people to get back from vacation so that they can tell him where to point me. I've been passing the days reading XML/XSLT/XSD/RELAX NG(yes, there really is a standard named that) documentation, being bored out of my skull, and sneaking whatever web sites I can past the firewall(it blocks out all gaming sites, so there goes a good 80% of my surfing). Even had to work today, since it's a global company. Don't get paid until the 15th.
-Music. Bought a pair of Koss KSC-50 headphones(the ones that clip to your ears). Luv 'em, and they're only $20--take that, overpriced Sony!
Unfortunately, they hammer home that my sound setup at home has too much noise in it, and should be looked at. Can't be stuffed.
Picked up Cinemaphonic 2: Soul Punch(on the recommendation of EK), loving it. Picked up Sex Mob Does Bond--unsure on it(it's got waaaay too much electric organ in most of the tracks).
-Games. Picked up Homeworld: Cataclysm(the only RTS series I can stand, mostly because it actually _dares to treat space combat as 3-dimensional_!) for a song($10, a CRIME, I tell you!). Picked up the USA version of Omega Boost tonight 'coz I was bored--a CRIME! The excellent "Shade", by Feeder(and probably a few others, but I don't have the import to check) was removed from the soundtrack and replaced with the typical American grunge-metal dreck that the "new music" radio stations played while I was in high school. At least the rest of the game seems unchanged.
Finally picked up a standard AV cord for my Dreamcast, so at least I don't have to haul it down to the nearest TV with S-video everytime I want to play VOOT.
-Movies. Saw MiB2(mostly just a collection of scenes with a boring connection plot, and who the hell was weapon designer?), saw Lilo n' Stitch(hilarious!).
-Art. Picked up a copy of the Animation:Master Handbook(2nd ed.) from the library--no damn CD. Picked up another copy at a used bookstore--discover it's the 1st ed, with an older demo(Hash doesn't distribute demos over the 'Net--rather odd, in this day and age). Not that this is really seriously convincing me _not_ to buy it. Even with splines instead of polys, a $300 pricetag for A:M is cheaper than some 2D software, and soytenly cheaper than the lumbering dreadnought known as Maya. Check out the 3D OAV of Magical Witchland to see A:M in action.
Found a local figure-drawing session, gonna go on Sunday. I need to find a newsprint pad..
That's about it.

"the work, that will become a genre itself.."
2002-06-25 02:18:58
Bowler: Being of next-to-none industry experience, d'you think independent animation is on the rise?
I know you've talked of doing your Sin City work, and every other time I turn the magazine page I hear about another cool project(like Lots Of Robots).
On the other hand, I see just as many public flops--Dustrunners simply dropped off the map after their first trailer release(though admittedly what little character design they showed was spotty at best).
What with the public's preconception towards animation, and the studio suits having lost the clue a long time ago, I'm wondering if there's going to be a breakout work anytime soon that causes people to sit up and watch.
..eh, what do I know. My new job consists of me recreating shipping forms using a crappy Freehand clone. At least it pays well.
