JOURNAL: Mechaman (Scott Francis)

  • "Who's going to believe a talking head?" 2001-12-31 03:58:33 Arr!
The events of the past week in no particular order:

I started reading the Foundation novels(thanks to the in-joke of a certain friend).

I saw Jimmy Neutron(mildly funny brain-candy), and learned that Perfect Dark is pretty much a dressed-up copy of Goldeneye.
I lost badly at the Auburn Virtual-ON Crew's Winter Tournament, but got to see a few matches of legend.

I STILL don't know my college-graduate status, but it's rapidly beginning to lose its luster in the urge to find a real job.
I touched up the pieces on my demo reel, accepted the fact that I can't shoe-horn my MPEG-1 music videos into any sort of format that the Mesmer SGI O2s will play gracefully, and am preparing to shoot off a mess of demo tapes tomorrow.

I watched the Molly Star-Racer trailer, via a link from Mike Toole of Anime Jump. I urge EVERYBODY to check it out. You get an Ayumi Hawasaki cookie if you do. Plus Molly resembles the product of an unholy collision between Haruko(FLCL), Yohko(Yamamoto Yohko), and Viola(ZOE). Hell of a lot more interesting than Dustrunners so far.

I've actually got an invitation to a party for New Years Eve..first time in a long while.

And I've been bone-chilled cold the past few days. I blame society...and your mother.
[Space Ghost]: "No, not MY mother. YOUR Mother."

  • "at the end of the show..." 2001-12-21 01:34:16 Well, now I feel like Tsutomu _after_ his test. Unfortunately, I haven't been electrocuted, then merged with a knockout female galactic police officer, who uses half of my body to kick the crap out of space criminals. I feel cheated. Plus I have even less guarantee of passing--if I hadn't panic-attacked last night and this afternoon, I would have wrote a few more equations down and felt slightly better about the test. I'm praying like hell that the prof curves(or that he remembers me and my desperate plea that I'm trying to graduate).
Speaking of which, once my graduation is official and I have a job, it's back to video creating. Betcha I won't get one done in time for AX this year, though. Although I'm stroking my imaginary goatee over the possibilities of Birdy and the JSR OST. Ahh...

  • "i believe in what I feel...to make it real.." 2001-12-17 17:34:40 EK: I will proudly sing along to "Add It Up" whenever it comes on the radio; and the thought of Jet spouting "shoot shoot shoot that thing at me" in a Gordon Gano voice makes me giggle like a schoolgirl.
My CD collection is woefully eclectic; I spent high school collecting soundtracks, only to realize that most of them just get thrown together, and sometimes the song you want most isn't on there(like the Tank Girl OST). Blar. I need an old-school Beastie Boys fix.

buggy: Erm, suck. I think I've had the most Average High School Experience; the only things that happened when I was at Lake Washington High School were brake-line slashing(found by the driver before), theft of our TV-station Mackie mixer(found laying in plain sight in a VW bus), a bomb-threat or two(shoeboxes with taped-on kitchen timers), and three pulls of the fire alarm in a single day.

Oh, the Software Dev final is done. Jack thankfully wasn't a complete bastard and actually put answerable questions on it. Now all that remains to be seen is our demo tomorrow.
Oh, and getting an 82 or higher on the Stats test. Don't think I've forgotten about that yet.

  • "won't you play the damn song...to make me strong...won't you sing 'I will make it if I do?'" 2001-12-17 04:07:07 RAR.
Approximately ten hours later...after having Acrobat crash(and corrupt) my notes(twice), a bit of hacking on another project, a boring dinner, and listening to the Jet Set Radio sountrack. ELEVEN. TEEN. TIMES.
And I still can't get tired of it. Forget Final Fantasy soundtracks for this boy..

For some reason, I have the urge to make a .fortune file filled with random quotes from EK's Bebop Thumbnail Theatre and link it to my email signature. What, the idea of having the last line of your sig read
Vicious: "Dong-dong, did someone just order PIPING HOT DEATH?"
    or
GPC: "WHAT? The Space Warriors are holding all 8-million citizens hostage?! How'd they get them all into one room?"
doesn't send you into childish giggling fits?

Er. It's 1:08 AM. I'm going home for a beer and a comfy bed in an empty room. Thank-you-good-night.

  • Suck the coffin mushroom now. 2001-12-16 18:16:37 Bleh. Helping a friend in his animation class reminded me precisely of what I hate about Maya--that the complexity is not handled well at all for the end-user, that its renderer is quite sucky in a professional environment, and that its skeleton system and non-linear editor systems are really primitive. I guess we know who's the shameless Softimage XSI whore here now, don't we? :grin
Finals? Two actual finals(one of which I need an 82 or higher to pass the class, and the other which consists of five essay questions--and I got points knocked off for lousy handwriting last time), a final software project demo, and an operating system shell to finish.
Our school did its first commencement walk in the fall; but they did it Saturday. Finals are this week. Since my parents wanted to attend, but don't feel like coming back(and since I have no car), all of my stuff went with them. My room now has nothing bigger than a breadbox in it.
On the plus side, once I finish everything(and I WILL pass), that's it for college life.
