JOURNAL: Bauzi (Bernd Schäffer)

  • 2009-02-02 15:30:37 Hey cool Iīll design the myspace page of the band where some of my friends are. They had theire first gig on Saturday. Uhm... Loud death metal really hurts in the ears btw.
Actually they still surprised me, because all in all Iīm not really into death metal. The music can be ok, but Iīm no fan of the usual deep singing. The singer screamed most of the time and I thought that this was a much more enjoyable (at least for me) way for the songs.
  • 2009-01-24 19:44:57 Bitching about banners? Youīre kids!

Iīm still in an editing break. I think I wait for my new smexy labtop to come wich should replace my lovely pc. Iīve edited with the PC since 2005, but I think itīs time to replace it as editing station ._.
  • I watched a friend getting hit by a car. Somehow this Saturday/Sunday was still awesome :3 2009-01-18 14:39:07 Yeah well... One of my friends has a new apartment in Vienna and with celbrated it. It was really cool with a lot of awesome people and than we decided to go to Burger King for a 3:30 am snack on Sunday. Well one of my friends thought that a red traffic light means nothing to him and than he got hit by a car. Idiot! =/

It was only ~20 Mph so he had luck. He just got hit and than fall to the ground. Only his bones hurt a bit. He was able to walk normaly all day long. I was pretty much shocked by that fact that: He was more drunk than me and was able to still walk pretty good and that he wasnīt able to see a red light. You know this is something basic wich your parents told you a lot in your childhood. There is no way to forget something like this.

Anyway the day was pretty much fun after all. We almost mad bad jokes and nonsense about it, like:
"Hell, this Whopper (A Burger King burger) was worth to get hit by a car."
"You almost look like a car crash!"
"This guy has now a dent on the hood in the form of a peach. Anyway I have now a dent on my ass with the form of a mercedes star!"

Than we decided at 5am to take a train home. Well all of us were tired and slept. Nobody noticed our station. Suddenly one of my friends woke me up and was a bit confused:
"Dude! Where are all this mountains comeing from?" lol

So we were in a different small city by accident. Went to a café for a breakfast and in the end I got home at 10am. We made a lot of jokes about ourself. This was a truely epic night and deserved a movie. There was some much fail and bad jokes ^^
    Ah itīs hard to describe.

On the other hand nights like this remind me why I donīt get drunk too often. xD
  • Why programmers are prostitutes 2009-01-16 19:35:50 Well... A lot of days I fuck my brian really hard for money. Damn algorithms =/
  • @DriftRoot, Kiki and Dr. Melee 2009-01-11 06:05:00 Attention: Iīm not a native english speaker and I didnīt read it again to correct it because I donīt have enough time right now. Sorry!

'Tube stuff that smacks 87% of the AMVs around here in the face and says "Get over yourselves and put some EFFORT into you videos, you slackers."

Who cares? I donīt really care. I see this video and I think: Yeah well done, but thatīs not what we seam to do in this hobby. We donīt alter the footage in such a big amount. The video is really well made, but I really ask myself: Why Photoshop?
If I want to make some effects on videos, than I use After Effects or even more advanced stuff. If I want to make some neat 3D effects I would take Maya, 3D Max and Compusion for compositing. Not Photoshop! There is effort, but I bet that a lot of working time would be gone with using proper programs for specific working task. Call me ignorant, but I consider Photoshop to be only for images and for effects in AE were you use some still images.

If I would be somebody who pays such an editor for makeing such a trailer I would be somehow angry because he didnīt used proper programs. Therfor he wasted time and money in a project.

"I'm not sure you're aware of something, do you have any idea how high you are right now?"
"I'm not sure you're aware of something, do you have any idea how high expectations are already? "

Yes itīs high. Itīs high here on this site and other top notch sites like from the french, german and russian community for example. Maybe we are the so called elite of this hobby if you take all this communities together.
Now I donīt want to offend anybody, but there are always people who are new to this hobby and are easly to impress. Theyīre not scum or anything. I see them as beginners who just donīt know it better now. YouTubers and stuff...

So there will always be people you can impress if you want to. Itīs not only on the internet, but also on conventions. The average viewer likes your amv even if itīs not that great. The popular elite part of the communities just make your amv popular, because they like and they tell other friends.

Anyway just look at all those viewer based events like our VCAs. They vote for the stuff they like and not always for the stuff with the most effects in it. A viewer has a far more different taste than an editor. An editor might like those extrem flashy, beat-synced videos, but there are viewers who really dislike them. The editor loves those videos because of the fast īn tight cuts and effects. Itīs all about impressing other editors. Thatīs not what a viewer needs.

If you consider to work as a payed pro one day like I do, you have to think about and think about ways to please both sides. Thatīs challenging. I think one of the early amvs who was able to really please both sides was Kevin Caldwellīs Engel. Have a look at it again! Itīs easy to follow for viewers, the technic is good and the sync is good too (wich pleases the editor in us).

"AMVs will die a quick death if that's the level of competition deemed "worthy" by attempts at rapid progression. "
No it wonīt. The top communties and elites might eat themselves quickly, but you canīt kill the fanbase that easly. Have a look around! There is the org (and other top communities), the streaming sites communtiy and the general viewers. Only the top sites might die or letīs say: The elites.
There are so many people that there will always come some more new people and replace the editing beginners and the elites. Somehow a circle of life.

"My opinion? Nobody will want to make videos if that's what is expected, nay, required of them."
I agree somehow, because I saw it at myself with my last amv "Eve - The Perfect Human" (please watch it btw. ;D ). So worked a lot of time on this amvs and I personaly had really high expectations for it. I even wanted to win the VCA for Best Horror 2009 with it, but I guess this wonīt happen because the lack of popularity.
When I make something than I want feedback and at least a tiny bit of praise or letīs say: At least constructive critismn. The popularity of this video got far under my expectations.

It was a ton of work and I have now a 360 at home. Why bothering with editing if you can have fun so easly with my 360 and games like Halo 3 online ? So I barely touch my editing programs even if I want to.
People like me need a reality check. Do you edit for fame or for yourself? Watch your older vids and youīll see it and youīll like it. The attempt of Project Eve was to make a slow paced video wich pleases editors and viewers a like. Furthermore there are tons of effects to create an atmosphere and fit the footage all together plus creating a really creepy video with a theme/story behind it.
Letīs see what I did and acomplished:

-slow paced video wich pleases editors and viewers a like
Somehow. This whole video is only for love and hate. People hate it because of the slow paced video and editing for example. Others love it. The viewer gets pleased for sure even if he doesnīt notice it.

-are tons of effects to create an atmosphere and fit the footage all together
    Definatly worked.

-creating a really creepy video with a theme/story behind it
    Worked.

So in the end my expectations were wrong because I thought that more editors will like my editing. That was wrong... Therfor I donīt get enough popularity to present it to a good amount of people and thatīs sad. I also donīt get enough people from the viewers because they just donīt like the creepiness and +18 stuff. Thatīs alright, but it doesnīt give me a popularity boost either.

I donīt expect people to like this video, but I wanted to reach as many people as I can wich share my taste of editing/effects/mood. All in all I donīt care if people say that this is my worst video. Fuck it. Itīs my best work for me and thatīs whatīs count!

    /reality check

Realising for wich stuff you want to edit is a huge thing and you might need a lot of experience to get it. If you ONLY work for fame and impressing people than the chance is really high that youīll fail or break.

"there is nowhere for newbies to start"
I agree with it. YouTube is definatly no good point to start. Beginners should be geared to videos from Kevin Caldwell or k-Type. Those videos really show how good simple videos can be and you can still make such great videos if you have good ideas and pay a fair amount of effort.
