VCA pimpage
2010-01-17 06:05:55
Yep I don't like MW2 Singleplayer campaign. The rest is pretty much fine. Just the multiplayer gets frustrating after some time. I blame my not so good internet connection.
It already got silent around the VCAs? Well okay, but I encourage you to vote for all the not so popular amvs that you like and that you think that they deserved to get into the next round.
So it's time to make some pimpage!
Oro$hi with "Hello World" for Best Use Of Multiple Animes and for Most Original:
http://www.animemusicvideos.org/members/members_videoinfo.php?v=168832
It might not be THE most original out there, but be honest: This concept is/was truely something new and original! I really don't want people to forget this one.
Darklydone with "Strange Has Been Found" for Best No Fx and Best First Video:
http://www.animemusicvideos.org/members/members_videoinfo.php?v=168506
I always wondered how a video to this song would look like. I would have never ever came up with this anime combination. He/She does it and it's awesome. It has a mood, pace, flow and great non effects editing. Wait, this i the editor's first video? oO
Go and give it a vote!
the_sextein with "Boogiepop Puppy" for Best Horror:
http://www.animemusicvideos.org/members/members_videoinfo.php?v=168854
Okay this video has some cheesy moments, but overall it's a damn creppy and nice video. I'm a Skinny Puppy fan, but it's hard to think of a video in your head that can compete with the unusual and unique style of their song. This video does it and it does it really good. It's surely worth for more attention. Thx to Copy Cat for suggesting it on the VCA forum.
Yaaku with "Evangelion Complex" for Best Fun/Comedy...
http://www.animemusicvideos.org/members/members_videoinfo.php?v=170675
It's hilarious and it's NGE how you probably have never saw it before. It nails a big character aspect of Shinji with awesome humor. It's so funny, smart and well executed that we shouldn't forget about it.
Bauzi with "Being A Superstar" for Best Character Profile and Best Horror:
http://www.animemusicvideos.org/members/members_videoinfo.php?v=171269
You didn't thought that this pimpage parade would be without of one of my videos, do ya?
Well... yes I shamelessly pimp it, because I want to see it in the next rounds. There are probably better vids to win, but I'm the opinion that it can stand up as good competition.
Why Best Character Profile? I don't portrait a character, I portrait the situation around the character. The world he lives in and I think I do it quite well.
Why Best Horror? Because it's Stalker terror and halluzinations at it's finest =P
Just show your love for it. Thank you =D
I would now pimp a lot of videos by [LGS] Mac for Best Action, but yeah... he didn't managed to upload them to the org yet. What a shame dude =P
So I pimp the YouTube version of his video "Bloody Circus": http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pm5hiZzvH7E

This is how MW2 fragile cardhouse falls apart if you take a deeper look on it:

@TC:
It's the internet. We can't see your face impressions and can't read your mind. Sometimes it's good to just write a small disclaimer:
"I son't want to win Most Improved but I'm the opinion that..."
Easy as that. As far as I can remember you never said that until the last post so the chance was way too high that we interpreted an important detail of your opinion in the wrong way.
That said... No I didn't tried to flame you personaly. I responed to a habbit that got on my nerves and that I'm somehow sick of.
TV Sims and malfunctions are love for me. I just saw Gamer yesterday in the cinema and they had some great distotions and malfunctions in it. The movie got a bit exhausting, because of it's speed and hard cut visuals, but it's a nice movie to watch.
Oh and Ingow said it the best way to me: "You know there is something wrong in this video. The sort that the editors will never notice because of...". The line between subjective wrong and objective wrong is not that easy to see.
Yeah... do yourself a favor and take a break.
@Chii:
Yeah I think these are differences in editors. I think there is also more flame to those who have success with fandom videos that are not that perferct in a technical aspects. We all remember the mobying of the wonder twins, right?
I see myself as an editor who edits for editors, because I try to please myself. I think it's important to not loose yourself in technical stuff too much. In the end as a pro you also don't have to please you, but a specific group of persons as target audience.
It's the circle of doom for a hobby. You can apply it to so many. You're a new. You're not so good in cuting things and timing. Editor A does a video that has for you an inourmous timing and cuting. You try to do the same and do it better... the next person comes and does the same. In the end all come up with tighter syncs and stuff. Is that appealing to the eye? Not really. For the editors, but not for the original fanbase. The videos start to get made by editors for editors. Probably for the simple reasons to impress others.
@Kyssifur:
Sure he has good valid points. I don't want to represent side A and he is side B of an opinion. I surely don't. I want to discuss it and don't want to represent an extreme or something.
"Unfortunately circle jerking is an existing concept. I'm thinking appreciatively of Chii's SugardanSen or Nostromo's Running Man, but there is one thing I couldn't have understood yet... Is anybody a God/dess just because of popularity? And the most disgusting is when people suck up to popular editors."
True, but many people end up flaming those popular editors for being famous and "not deserving it" and that's not alright. Chii simply deserved it and she had a good reason to become popular with making great fandom videos.
Your Number 1 video got over 10k hits! Man that's great. Congratz. I didn't thought of that because I don't like the song in it, but I can understand why other people like it. Yeah... I think some people should accept that there are other opinions too and that there ARE other people out there that enjoy the videos that you don't.

About the VCAs
2010-01-07 17:32:22
This goes out to a lot of people and one part is especially for Twilightchrono.
You might have figured it out yet, but I still want to point it out: VCA stands for VIEWER's Choice Award. Pretty simple to remember. The most important word in it is the word VIEWER.
What is a viewer?
A viewer is somebody who is not probably not an editor. A viewer is better said: Most of the time no editor. He probably is a con go and is also into the usual main stream con stuff. Probably that annoying fangirl or boy who dances for the third time in a row the caramel dansen on the main stage of the con you're visiting.
Okay... I don't want to blame viewers. Most of them are not annoying, but you got my point: They are way different than an editor. The most important difference is how they see amvs. They forgive technical issues easily and don't care about generic crap and canned effects as long as they're entertained with their favorite anime scenes and music they enjoy.
A viewer probably has no trained eye. Hell! They just don't get everything you're trying to say with your amvs when they are watching it for the first time in a sequence of tons of other videos. Who can remember every aspect of every amv you watch in a 2 hours (or longer amv contest)? Of course their opinion gets subjective. No need to blame them. They will remember the stuff that evocted a feeling in them or that are very original or a super duper pairing for them. The easiest feeling to evoce (in my opinion) is laughing. So humorous amvs are the ones that get remembered.
The viewer choice award basicaly is a popularity contest. They will vote for the stuff they know and actually saw. I can't vote for Twilightchrono if I've never heard of him. Don't blame them for their taste. They vote for what they enjoy. Editors have juged contests as pendant to VCAs. Just like our JCAs. Let the VCAs be the VCAs: A fest for viewers and the broad mass. Don't take it to serious.
TwilightChrono... you failed this year to get the award for "Most Improved". Get over it. You simply didn't managed to break through the masses with a video and got the attention. People don't remember you. People don't vote for you. Viewers don't know you.
I saw myself to be really improved from 2005 to 2006, but I broke through too late. I knew it and accepted it. It was okay. I was more annoyed to see me get nominated in later years. I still made a lot of improvement, but not as much as in the time period 2005 to 06.
I know you worked very hard and that you want it, but hey! It's just another annoying viewer choice award and trust me: Once you made your break through video and people start to remember you than they will nominate you. No one will care that your biggest improvement was last year. They only see the present and that might contain somebody who jumped out of no where with a super awesome video. "Heck this guy made so many videos before with such a low amount of hits? This guy must have really improved!"
******
However bashing you with my honest opinion is not enough! Of course I need to agree with a lot of things you say. I better pick apart your last journal entry, because I just pretend that this your latest opinion:
"Fu** the newbies. Let's vote for the same shit we have seen over and over again, and then, let's vote for the same editor again this year because he/she is great"
Yep, that's what a viewer thinks. Again: He can't vote for something he doesn't know. Still... you can blame the active forum members because some of them should know better.
"It's cool if you like those kinds of videos, but give other peeps a chance. I'm thinking about withdrawing my entries, cuz there is really no point in trying to compete with Nostromo, Chii, and a bunch of others, as it's nothing but a bunch of circle jerking."
Nostromo and Chiii make PERFECT videos for viewers. Heck Chiii combines super cute scenes with Caramel Dansen. HELLO???!!! Chiii is cool. I bet she wins something this year because she was able to establish herself into the heart of a lot of people without being a bitch for them. She does the stuff she enjoys and that's awesome if she has success for it. I do for years the stuff I like, but hardly get apprecited for it by the broad con mass lol!
Oh I bet Chii opts out this year to piss of the org. Haha.
"the editors that are struggling to improve, constantly get flamed and harassed about why their video's doesn't measure up to this person or this video. While criticism can be harsh, it's no wonder why a bunch of people are turned off to the org entirely. A bunch of elitist who care nothing about the new editors and their wish to improve.
Just remember, we all started as newbies to editing and vastly improved. Who helped you improve? Was it someone giving advice? Did you say Fu** em' and do it yourself? If you did either f these more power to you, just remember that the latter choice was your decision."
yeah that's pretty sad.
"flameing popular shit"
It might be the same videos in other forms, but they're not shit. They're good and bring enjoyment to many people.
Don't like how people don't vote? Vote how YOU think and don't opt out. I like the VCAs lately. It shows me so many cool vids that I missed this year and the decisions are not too annoying. The most annoying out comes were the following for me:
-Spoil for best lip sync in semi-finals
-Nostromo for most improved
This were stuff were I was annoyed because I just thought that the average viewer should know way better than this.
