JOURNAL: Bauzi (Bernd Schäffer)

  • Zombie for a day... BRAINS!!!! 2010-07-10 18:02:43 Tomorrow I will play a zombie for a zombie flick together with my sister. We will be arround 35 zombies for the movie.

Maybe I'll be part of the postproduction too, but I'm not sure if I have enough time for it.
  • It's decided! 2010-07-10 06:03:00 Yesterday I decided for my first camera. Well it's not a real video camera, but you will be surprised on how effective this tool can be for videos.

It's the Canon EOS 7D dslr:

Surprised? Don't underestimate the video functions of dslrs! Have a look at some test videos on YouTube:

It's even used in the industry. I know some films that were shot with this camera. Even one episode of House is made with this camera. You can do a lot of things beside awesome photography with it. It's surely not the best choice for every situation, but it surely suits my needs for cinematic looks with depth of field and for music video production.

And if I need a different camera for a job? Well than I'll borrow one for around 100 bucks a day. That's not a big deal at all.

My collage got a 7D yesterday and I'm excited to borrow it for some tests :3
  • Like a dog 2010-07-07 19:03:15 I think we made us our own slaves. We are slaves of beats and other syncing methods. You know what I think? It distroys a lot. It trained our senses in a bad unnatural way. I believe that the only true way is to mood sync. You need a feeling for the song. Where cuts are alright and where not and that's hard to develop such a sense. We are idiots when we think that one or a few syncing methods are best. The best music video editor just knows where to set which kind of sync because he feels it. He doesn't see a stupid beat in a waveform. He feels where he has to do something. A waveform is only a tool to help him find the exact spot of his feeling.

I realized this again when I watched an amv that wasn't too good, but not bad either. The inner wish for sync for some of the beats really tryed to pull me away of the atmosphere and mood of the video. I had to shut my sense of to really get into it and to enjoy it. That's horrible! We are in the end nothing more than trained dogs.

That's why you should never forget that everyday people might not agree with your extrem fast and tight videos.
  • 2010-07-05 05:21:00 For our local convention we have a new system for playing media. I'm using Auriga as benchmark test for it xD
  • 2010-07-02 19:05:55 Crossfades, slight zooms and fade in/outs are my bitch! I love to exploit them to cover up not so good editing and lack of ideas for scenes for a specific moment in a video.

"Show me a crossfade and I show you a bad editor"
Film =/= AMVs so you can't really pay too much attention on this proverb in this hobby, but still: It has it's point!
