Shame is the only way to go here I think. Police brute force hasn't worked in the past and I know they were trying an experimental approach this time that didn't work.

They can't keep people from being idiots, but they CAN prevent them from making high street (and campus housing) their playground. Student's houses were the large part of the base camp of the drinkers. They can at least close the bars on high street during a big game weekend. It's extreme measures...but this was an extreme problem.

The bucks defense. I don't know if it was both teams stinking it up 3rd quarter or not...but unless they play the whole Fiesta game like 1st and 4th quarter...they are going to get thumped ^_~

I'm sure you'll be out there on high street after that game getting footage again...hopefully nothing will happen that weekend.

True, I believe it was 10 osu currents and formers arrested but I don't think that statistics are very accurate here. I saw the crowds on tape destroying the cars and I KNOW that more than 10 of them were osu students.

Still, I also know that the 30-40 people who were the ones mostly setting the 20 car fires were possible local fans and not necessarily osu students.

It is an OSU fan problem. One that has been addressed in the dispatch for weeks up til last weekend (sure you know about that) and that they knew was a problem. I believe the staff of the OSU sports division kept defending them. Everyone knew this was going to happen and that is what makes it so ugly of a situation. It is almost being tolerated and all I hear about is OSU student discipline. It should be a little more of a deal with the mayor to his general citizens as well.

As for the OSU football team and staff, maybe, they need to shame their own fans into behaving. Fans were apparently celebrating because OSU won, so I think the only people that could shame the fans are the players telling them how disapointed they are. I don't see them alienating any fans anytime soon though....

I am beginning to hope OSU loses the Fiesta bowl just so this crap doesn't happen again.

  • My God. 2002-11-25 05:57:51 simply shameful.

Last Saturday the OSU bucks won against very bitter rival Michigan state. It was the 1st time in over 20 years the bucks have won against the wolverines in their home stadium. Lots of losing steaks against the wolverines...but it's changed a bit in the last 5 years.

Well, they won 14-9 and have a 13-0 season. They are going to the Fiesta bowl in AZ. Is that any excuse for what happened?

The riots that took place by the stupid, drunken, juvenile fans of OSU has leveled blocks and destroyed dozens of cars aroung the campus area. The footage looked like a bombing in the mid-east! I can't believe the sheer stupidity of these 'fans'. I am sure the coach, the team, and the university are quite proud to have fans that act this way.

They knew it was coming though...and so did I. I was kinda hoping the bucks would lose to keep these children from 'celebrating' but they probably would have rioted because they were upset -_-'''

The University ran ads around campus to celebrate responsibly and even had alumni players make bids for sanity. Didn't work.

So they had police and riot police, but not nearly enough to handle the crowds who rushed the field to break the goalposts. After that, the riots moved to the streets with many many fires, over turning of cars, and flying objects.

I just want to say how ashamed I am of my state right now. This kind of behavior was expected and should not be tolerated. The mayor of Columbus and pres of the university issued apologies and stated how shamed they were of the conduct and how they did not feel it could have been prevented.

I think expulsion of all students arrested would be a good start. I realize how expensive college is, I have a 17,000 student loan to repay. But I would not expect, and I would hope my institution would not tolerate it if I represented my school by destroying other people's homes and cars. Yes, there are some people who lost their vehicles for such a pointless reason. It's a wonder no one lost their life.

    Absolutely Ridiculous.
  • Ooh....to have preferences.... 2002-11-17 16:50:56 Egads.

If I had premiere this would not be a problem given all the guides and such. I just can't seem to get my ripped dvd files to work in my favorite editor, Media Studio Pro. I really think all I need is a plugin and god knows I have no clue how to make one and I can't find any anywhere on the net...at least no place I look.

I still have my capture card and if I can't get things to work out soon, I guess I will have to go back to it. These problems are backing up my amv to-do list like a paper towel roll flushed down a toilet...

Been cooking a lot lately making pumpkin cookies. It's for a military friend but I think he will be coming home for Thanksgiving and I don't know if express shipping them is necessary anymore.

I am also looking for a new job. No...looking for a career position, I already have a job. Crappy...job ^_~ Going to call the production house I mailed my resume to last weekend. Hopefully something good comes of it.
