A re-post
2003-01-18 14:48:34
I posted this at another forum I visit because of the protests today. They were calling the people who went out today hippies and mocking them.
IT'S 10 FREAKING DEGREES IN D.C.
These people are strong and are standing up for what they believe in. It's more than I can say for the children who visit that forum.
Are most of you people completely unaware of how the world is looking at our nation because of the way Bush is representing us??
Since many of you seem to be painfully unaware of the activities the U.S. has been up to and caused worldwide problems here you go
**********************
1953: U.S. overthrows Prime Minister Mossadeq of Iran. U.S. installs Shah as dictator.
1954: U.S. overthrows democratically-elected President Arbenz of Guatemala. 200,000 civilians killed.
1963: U.S. backs assassination of South Vietnamese President Diem.
1963-1975: American military kills 4 million civilians in Southeast Asia.
September 11, 1973: U.S. stages coup in Chile. Democratically elected president Salvador Allende assassinated. Dictator Augusto Pinochet installed. 5,000 Chileans murdered.
1977: U.S. backs military rulers of El Salvador. 70,000 Salvadorans and four American nuns killed.
1980's: U.S. trains Osama bin Laden and fellow terrorists to kill Soviets. CIA gives them $3 billion.
1981: Reagan administration trains and funds "contras". 30,000 Nicaraguans die.
1982: U.S. provides billions in aid to Saddam Hussein for weapons to kill Iranians.
1983: White House secretly gives Iran weapons to help them kill Iraqis.
1989: CIA agent Manuel Noriega (also serving as President of Panama) disobeys orders from Washington. U.S. invades Panama and removes Noriega. 3,000 Panamanian civilian casualties
1990: Iraq invades Kuwait with weapons from U.S.
1991: U.S. enters Iraq. Bush reinstates dictator of Kuwait.
1998: Clinton bombs "weapons factory" in Sudan. Factory turns out to be making aspirin.
1991 to present: American planes bomb Iraq on a weekly basis. U.N. estimates 500,000 Iraqi children die from bombing and sanctions.
2000-01: U.S. gives Taliban-ruled Afghanistan $245 million in "aid".
September 11, 2001: Osama Bin Laden uses his expert CIA training to murder 3,000 people.
*******************************
I am not flaming anyone here and I am not calling anyone stupid. You just seem to look at this very narrowminded.
The United States has over 10,000 active warheads. Is it any suprise other nations don't like us when we have a massive military presence worldwide?
The protesters aren't hippies. They are people that went out on the coldest day of the year to try and prevent a nuclear war from erupting when that seems inevitable. Saddam Hussein is not a nice guy, he's a dictator who has a nation of poverty. Their only real commodity to trade is oil and with the sanctions over there, hate only gathers because he blames us. The people can't complain because if they do they will be killed.
People here have a right to demonstrate and shouldn't be looked down on by people who do nothing to exercise their own rights given by the Constitution.
Killing more citizens in Iraq will not help our global image and will ONLY birth MORE DEATH. Here and there. We don't need to fear their chemical weapons so much as we should fear terrorist bombs in our nations power plants, the Hoover Dam, or NUCLEAR power plants. Can you imagine a meltdown? Do you have them in your state? We have 3 in Ohio...and North Korea has known missiles yet we aren't trying to install a new regime in their country.
If you favor the war, that is your right but you look so juvenile when you call them hippies. Turn on the news and look at the faces of them. They are your neighbors, your teachers, and some are even your leaders.
Go to the bbc.com and look at the massive amount of global protests going on all over the world. Bush IS a dictator if he does not acknowledge the voices of the people who cry for peace. He is no better than any other blood thirsty tyrant if he continues his legacy regardless of the cries for sanity the people of the United States of America are crying out for in this very frightning time.

People are so stupid. Course I knew that already but...
People in the forums are whining because they can't 'spam'.
They say the reason the forum sucks is because they aren't allowed to post as much mindless slobbery dribble as they like.
Fer god sake...it's BECAUSE they have nothing BUT mindless dribble to contribute that the forum supposedly sucks so much. They can do that anywhere else.
For me, I like this forum especially around con time and that is when a lot of people come back for info, setting up meetings and so forth.
So, the fact the forum may not be as ahem....entertaining..... for people who have nothing meaningful say anyway, doesn't bother me one bit. It serves it's purpose. And if it's not doing it for you lately, maybe it's a cue to do something else other than sit in front of a computer and type:
"":) :) :) :)
Yeah
or
what is you fav/worse/best/stupid /anime/color/laxative/why do I claim to be a genius yet constantly post such inane questions???""
I hope the mods continue to annoy the spammers that think they have some god given right to be stupid. This place will heat up on it's own closer to con season.
so, Quit yer b----in! :D

eh...why go on with the con report?
2003-01-14 15:05:52
It looks complete enough.....I ranted about most of what I want to say. I have to say, contrary to what other people thought, I didn't enjoy the amv contest there overall. I really really liked the drama catagory and I liked Swing Swing Swing...but most of the other good stuff from the other catagories were amvs I had seen before. Most lacked....something.
Even the comedy ones I think. Only two made me laugh and one that I had seen before just made me roll my eyes. The audience seemed to enjoy it though. I'll be nice and keep those details to myself.
Job Interview!!!!!!!!!! I had one today at the Video Production house in Lancaster. I think it went well. They said I had experience in everything they needed but last week when I set up the time they said there were 2 others I was competing with. *shivers and crossess fingers*
I'm qualified, so hopefully the graphics cd I submitted and how I said, "I can do web site stuff too", will boost me up a bit.
This will be my first REAL job! As in something I will be at for years and full time. The job itself is kinda pending on Time Warne cable releasing it's death grip on Lancaster local cable access. Long story they told me, but the way it is costs them too much $$ and by the 31st of this month, they will go one way or another.
Rants...I feel like more rants since I need to wash dishes and I feel like putting it off a tad bit more.
Yesterday I almost witnessed one of those accidents you see on the police video shows.
A dumb girl was driving her green thunderbird ahead of me chatting on the cell phone. This is on Rt 33 between Lancaster and AThens and is 65mph.
On the opposite side of the freeway was a van being towed from the shoulder. No accident, just towed. On OUR side of the road was some guy with a cowboy hat and a big ram truck with a trailer hitched. The trailer had a flat. He gets out and walks to the tire, looking down all the time.
(note: I hate drivers who MUST look at accidents. They CAUSE more, brake stupidly and cause problems for just about everyone else. Sadly, they are the majority. Rubberneckers...:( When I am a passenger, things are different, but my primary job when driving is operating the car. Everyone else do the same. Add to this she is chatting on the cell and we're set)
She obviously had a magnet in her grill that zeros in on people. Because of all the places for her to drift when gawking across the road, was straight towards that guy. I gasped because I thought I was about to see a horrible accident. She pulls away from him and begins to fishtail down the road and I think she's still going to wreck. With the luck all idiots seem to possess, she regains control. And quickly gasses it and gets the heck outta there.
Somehow, the guy had no clue he'dalmost died!!!! He was just looking at the tire when we passed him, 2 seconds later. In a car traveling 65 mph, you transverse a LOT of ground in 3 seconds which was about the entire span of this near hit.
Whew.
I still have more rant left
What is going on with the forum? Truthfully, I think the Olmec guy has a point. I had my doubts about who it may be and still do, but they know about Narnia :) This is no mindless troll.
They have a point. The forums have been filled with anything BUT fun OR anime music videos lately. Just soaps, crap, and pointless spam. Spam that makes me laugh has worth, but it's unoriginal tripe and half the people in there now don't even seem to like anime. They never talk about it unless posting hentai-esque images.
Maybe we just all ran out of meaning topics.
Or maybe the forum just really sucks now.

Ohayocon Part 1
2003-01-11 13:36:23
There were pros and there were cons ^___^. I will post a full AMV review when I get home (at my mom's cause Athens was too far to drive at 4 AM)
The pros first because there aren't as lengthy.
Nice Hotel
It was big and beautiful. It's next to Easton Town center which, unfortunately was too cold out to see many people go out half naked to scare the locals. I wanted to see some conflict :D
Spacious hallways
Last year, Ohayocon was at the Holiday Inn in Cleveland. Although the amount of attendees felt low to me. But then again, I have never attended a Friday of a con before. I am not good at measuring it, If turnout on Friday is that low, then Ohayocon may have some trouble
AMV showing pro's
Audio last year was horrible and disrespectful to the entrants. This year, it was superb. I heard tones in my song when my amv played that I could only hear with headphones normally. Howvere, this is the only part of the screening that I can compliment aside from the general VIDEO quality of the entrants, but that's another issue.
Program books
They were there on time this year. Not entirely accurate, but on time. I am not sure if the problem was the programming book person or con ops that some things didn't pan out. I think con ops because of the situations...read on.
Video Rooms
A lot better than last year. Spacious and the screens were up higher so people in the back could read the subs. Last year, sitting in the 3rd row or beyond meant audio only...and what you could barely see on a 50 inch tv.
Cons hehehe (puns are fun)
Hotel
I really feel this was not an appropriate hotel. Setting is just fine. The hotel staff was not even close to as anime friendly as Sugoicon though. Main problem was the budget. This was not an Otaku budget friendly hotel. Little in the way of vending, resturant...well, 6.00 for a soup darn it! Buffet for one person was 24.00 and the restaurant was just as pricey.
Now, you can say, nearby Easton is there with a McDoanlds. Aside from the fact Mcdonalds sucks, it is a January con. Not exactly walking friendly for those with no cars. Delivery for pizza from Morse road could have possibly been the only alt...but I don't even know that patrons were allowed. I never saw any pizza delivery people. Maybe I just didn't happen to look at the right times.
Cosplayers
Actually, I have only one real gripe that is more a personal opinion and less an actual con. Shameless cosplayers and crossdressing Otaku. At the hilton, the patrons are not Joe Shmoe. They were not amused by the general cosplayer for one, and neither am I. But the extreme ones are just bad publicity IMO. That's my opinion, so no need for attacks. But if Ohayocon is to grow in Columbus, acceptance is a good thing. Not offending hotel guests is another. Today is the actual cosplay, so I am missing the majority of nudity and overall freakiness, but thankfully so.
AMV screening
Dear god, the screen is big! And it sounded ok. The seating was less than taht of last year though because they partioned the room for the Karaoke Open Mike Night next door.
I CANNOT STRESS ENOUGH HOW BAD OF A DECISION THIS WAS
Many of the videos that had quiet tones were quite disturbed by the sounds from next door and I was as far away from the wall as possible, seated on the left side of the room. This was an insult to the participants. Mindwarp's wacked video was a good example. The video had several quiet parts. During those, you could hear the horrible (and I say this loosely) "singin" next door. The audience stopped paying attention to the video to laugh at the singer twice. Maybe this isn't a big deal to some folks, but I thought it was. Loud videos were ok at least on the left side of the room.
But this problem plagued more events:
Panels and Video Rooms Problem 1
- The same as the amv contest but worse. The AMV panel, Brad Demoss could not hear people speaking in the back row, and quite possibly they couldn't hear him. That tells you how thin the walls were.
Video rooms, I tried watching Kaze no Yojimbo a drama. You could hear the voices, but it had a constant soundtrack of karaoke. Awful. Luckily I wasn't too into it.
*********Will be updated/edited more later...computer is having a problem and I am going to submit before it dies********

an open letter

Nah actually, this is an excerpt from my email to my sister. You see, The Magnificent Seven is one of her favorite westerns. She loves those things. The Hallmark Channel is airing a bunch in January.....hey that's tomorrow ^_~
I have cable (they live in podunk nowhere) so it's my job to tape them. Well, the problem is described below in my email to her and I thought it was amusing enough to print. I am sure everyone is interested in knowing I can't sleep because of heartburn :p The comp mentioned below is my very old acer aspire AMD k6, my first computer, paid for by me completely and my old friend and pain in the @$$
**********
I did some research and the Hallmark Channel is
supposed to be on channel 23. That happens to be the
local cable access channel already.
I emailed time warner and we'll see what they say but
I am not too hopeful. That is stupid of them to pick 2
channels in an area to dump for local access. You know
what they have on that channel? That is the one where
they show home video footage of the most boring
retarded stuff. The only thing on there I ever ran
across that was midly entertaingin was the person
dragging their broken vcr around town scaring
tourists. Most the time it's a blue screen of death
from when their crappy computer that loops their
programming crashes.
My computer seems to be in it's death throes. I think
some hardware is failing, though the fan still works.
It's having problems. I feel like hitting it to make
it feel better.
As for me, I have been up for awhile for
heartburn/acid reflux. I am trying drinking
unsweetened near boiling hot water tea to try and get
rid of it. I don't care about getting wrinkles, but
getting old sucks!!!
arrg...back to playing doc to my computer that feels
like I do. Hey maybe it has heartburn too. Let's see if
pouring boiling water on it helps.....>:)
