  • oh..ok ^_^ 2003-02-15 17:44:27 RichLather- I must borrow a digi camera now. I only have an ultra crappy Polaroid one. Ahh...I'll use that and get some pics up here tomorrow.

Guinea pigs are animals from South America (though domesticated) and will likely hate me for it :))))

  • snooooooooooow 2003-02-15 16:41:22 It started snowing here of course and we knew about the weather warning as it said 3 to 5 inches over night with more on the way Saturday.

Kevin had never seen the anime series 'Slayers' before...well he was an anime hater before I converted him >:) SO I had gone through Slayers series one a couple weeks ago. We were now working on Slayers Next, the best of the 3 series. We were watching them for awhile and about...2 AM all of a sudden I have this urge to go to the kitchen window really quick.

The lights were already off when I looked out the window and I swear it looked like daytime at 2 AM.

I told Kevin to come over and look and he got freaked out asking..'What would it look like if a nuclear weapon went off?'
I didn't think anything like that so I was suprised at the question. The first thing I thought was, Oh god, we're in for some bad weather!

So we put on our shoes and go out to the corner. Let me describe the scene a bit. The apartment is on the west side of AThens. Not really on the outskirts but not where all the lights are. It's a living district..uum...albiet small. Athens is small.

Kevin thinks the stadium lights from OU are on. The stadium is only a mile away from our house. I didn't think it was. So he wants to go look. I get out my baby guinea pig Dutch to hold on the couch while he goes and looks. The roads were really bad but it's like a 3 minute drive there and back so I said I am timing him and he'd better not wreck my car ^_^ Thinking back to what we did later that night (I'll get to it) we should have just walked out there and driving was pretty stupid. Oh well.

I sit down with Dutch, who likes to purr a lot (guinea pigs purr when they are happy) and wait for Kevin to get back. He comes back in 6 minutes and tells me that the roads are crap  There was someone’s car with cops all around just over the hill from us.

This piqued my interest but we only had 3 episodes of Slayers Next left and it’s really dramatic at the end so we finished watching that.

Then at 3:30 AM on a Friday night we go out for a walk ^_^ Here in Athens, drunk party school of Ohio, being out at all hours of the night is a common thing.

It was very very light out. You could see everything even up into the woods area behind the apartment. This was pretty freaky as it was in the middle of the night. But there was no wind and it was a light but steady snowfall at that point.

The roads were untouched by plows. There was a lot of traffic for that time of night, since the bars had closed an hour ago and lots of drunken students staggering home.

Car were fishtailing and having problems at lights getting stopped and started but no accidents where we were. Lots of sirens in the distance though.

We ended up being out walking and looking at the snow covered streets for about 30-40 minutes. We went uptown and found 3 cars where someone had slashed the tires of parked cars and they were all flat! There was a cop nearby Kevin informed but he just left…-_-…cops absolutely suck. Ok..most cops…the ones who are like that guy.

We kept seeing the cop cars driving around sliding and wasting gas ;) all while we walked

When we got back I bundled up a snowball and threw it at my car. I don’t know if it’s latent animosity or just cause I could but it gave me an idea.

    This was perfect snowman snow.

So, at 4 AM we are making a snowman outside the apartment.

He’s about 4 foot 6 and still out there with chocolate candy hearts for eyes and nose and a toupe of old leaves.

We took pics of him…too bad we don’t have a good digital camera. Kevin had never made a snowman before!!! So he probably feels all accomplished.

    Well, maybe not.

Anyway we are supposed to get about 6 more inches of snow and we were under a level 2 snow emergency last night. I won’t be doing any driving but I think I’ll let the pigs play in the snow tonight 

  • An interesting url 2003-02-11 11:02:01 It probably won't do anything, but at least my voice can be heard somewhere. I never DID get a reply from writing the legislators directly.

  • correction 2003-02-02 17:24:06 The Columbia thread was gone for awhile. It must have taken a while to mod. It's back now...but my thoughts are the same.

I hope that was the last time the forums will be used for that fight.
  • ...... 2003-02-02 16:03:39 I am just disgusted.

As someone who does not believe in an afterlife, I
take a human life as no trivial matter. In my eyes,
this was a gift by some cosmic chance and to take the
discarding of human life (even those we call evil) is
not a right bestowed upon us. Perhaps some should not
be living, their crimes that heinous...but I don't
think any other human on the planet has a right to
take anothers life...when they themselves will
    continue to live.

To pollute a thread in the memory of the recently
dead....is just....a desecration of that memory.

The thread for those killed in the Columbia crash was deleted because vendettas that had ...._nothing_.... to do with Columbia _at all_ started showing up.

I'd say get over it people but it's beyond that now.

    Actual people died.

Yes it was only 7, people die everyday. They were in aline of work where the possiblity of death may have been on their mind a good portion of the trip.

But it was a thread to inform and express feelings about it.

If threads started appearing about real people who died then common decency says you either express condolences or move on if you care nothing at all.

I personally felt something for the astronauts that died.

As I watched the tapes over and over again...

I wondered how painful it must have been to be burned alive.

The fear they must have felt.

The tears of those that loved them and how sad it must be to lose someone you love in a matter of minutes without getting to say...I love you, or goodbye.

They can never say that again, hear that again, embrace their family...they are dead.

And the least the people here can do is not assualt those who may go to a thread expecting information, thoughtful insights, or comforting words.

You should be ashamed, though I expect my words will be met with anger and not regret. We aren't children here. Who cares who started it? The bigger person will stop it.
