NYC is the "City of God?" Ok now I know this crap is fake.
2001-09-15 00:45:58
I'm sorry but how do you call NYC the city of God? I think there's a misprint somewhere.
So I'm still in Jersey but I have t-minus 6 hours 'til I go back to New York. It couldn't come a moment sooner. When I get back I plan a full scale work-a-thon on AMV2 (MV6) revisions for internet release and updating my site so I can get my video page online.
Ok, and yes, I'll fix the awkward anime titles in the listing in the AMV commercial. I was hoping no one would see that, even I didn't really pay attention to it until ten views later. This is cool, though, since it means Kusoyaro must have watched it more than once in order to figure that out. I feel better knowing that people are actually watching it enough to analyze it... it's like throwing food in an ant farm to watch the ants gobble it up.
That listing was actually an imported Illustrator file, so all I have to do is edit the list in Illustrator and it'll automatically update itself in After Effects... god I love Adobe! They're a monopoly but tell me what part of a successful company does not include being a monopoly in at least one aspect! Look at Starbucks!
So if you think my ego is bad now, my graphic design homework called for me to put my name all over a 30"x40" board in as many fonts and styles as I can. In unconscious response I've done over eight title sequences in AE for my name/logo since I got the assignment. I'm hopeless, I tell you!

Oh duh, I'm in that AWA contest.
2001-09-13 22:30:04
So I forgot to mention in that last post that I made it to one nomination for best romance with EBYT-R. I was hoping for best artistic endeavor, or best technical or something less... generic a category. Oh well, I think those who made the categories deserved it. I find the Kenshin videos were overdone, so when I saw how many times that Megadeth rendition on Kenshin got a nod, I was curious but I'm not willing to challenge, it did have its moments.
Strangely I forgot I was even in this contest. I made such a big deal over judging AMVs for the first time in my life that the fact that my video was in it just flew right past me. You see where all my attention is nowadays...
My main interest is over Oodridikurudikr (sorry, Jay, hard to remember) and Rhythm Animation. Both extremely similar and extremely well done. I had such a hard time deciding over those two.
I know the guy who did the Perfect Blue to Rush video will probably never read this journal, but the song in that video, just absolutely fantastic. It was hard to judge the video itself when I loved the song so much. I feel like I'm the only guy who doesn't vote personal preference over actual content. I mean, it's cheating to do that, right? Well, whatever. I'll stop rambling now... (I'm filling up Phade's server space REAL quick with these entries...)

Talk about coincidence
2001-09-13 20:38:19
I talk about communism in the last journal entry, and what happens? The symbol of capitalism in NYC blocks away from me crumbles.
So yeah, apart from that, I've relocated back to the hell of Jersey since I'd rather be bored than be filled with asbestos and that burning smell. I actually got more pics of the day after the blast, but since Geocities is down (for obvious reasons), they'll just stay in my collection. They ewren't really that interesting. If anything, they were funny!
Anyway, Nightowl and I are going over more parts of our newest video (in the AWA Masters competition) before the online release. I'm even contemplating the title still. How does "Numb (Is There Anybody Out There?)" sound? This kind of editing drives me nuts. Such tiny changes that make such drastic change.
What doesn't change is the enthusiasm I have behind this video. I think it's some of the best work I've done (though all the time I had to work on it contributes to that greatly). What I love about it is that we use not really cutting-edge effects, but use old techniques to make new surprises. There's a lot of scenes in the AMV that have secrets behind them, some involving transitions, others just silliness, but they're secretive.
This video also follows my rhetoric of making effects as incognito as possible. If you can tell someone used an effect somewhere, or the effect doesn't have the same look at the footage it works with, the effect sucks! No question! You can't put a lightning bolt in a sunny background and expect people to believe it. You also can't believe that a white flash popping in and out is supposed to be dramatic or representing a heartbeat when really it just looks absolutely silly. Maybe I'm too descript about certain things, but if the effect doesn't work for what you're doing, don't use it. I've turned down so many effects possibilities for this video because it either didn't fit or wasn't looking believable enough. The last thing I'll rant about quickly is aged film. It's absolutely fantastic and it looks VERY realistic, which is scary. I love it, but I don't use it unless I absolutely have a purpose for it, which has been never as of current.
Oh well, done ranting. You can see I have a short fuse towards people who think effects make a video suck. Maybe that's why I push myself to make effects hidden. Maybe not. So, back to what I was saying before, I'm back in hell. I'll be back Saturday if my FTP ever shuts down so, people, if you try my videos and the links don't work, wait 'til Saturday.

AWA and the Communist Manifesto
2001-09-10 01:46:11
So, journal feature, eh? Cool.
Well, now I'm an official member of Nightowl Productions. The first product from this joining is "Is There Anybody Out There?" which is currently in limbo with AWA Masters' competition judges. Contrary to some opinions (and even myself at one point), this video didn't come from 'The Wall' album-AMV idea earlier this summer. I had the quick promo before the topic ever began, and it made me nervous to see such a suggestion because then my idea would spread. Luckily it didn't get too far so I could continue my own video. I did suggest the idea since I didn't think it would fly in my own hands. In all respects it didn't, which is why I called on Nightowl for help.
At some point I'd love to get more hands on with After Effects. I've already gotten reservations for opening credit assignments from Nightowl, so that could be the opportunity I am looking for. I still have to worry about my art classes, however.
Geez, my first journal entry and I get all serious. Who knows how long this feature'll last...
