Bad timing...
2002-08-21 17:56:52
Isn't it just funny that Shoujocon was over my dad's birthday, Otakon was over my parent's anniversary, and AXNY is over my mom's birthday? Could I possibly just f@ck my family over any worse than that this year? At least I'll be there for Mom's birthday thanks to my pledge to not go to AXNY, though I'll probably be stalking the Virgin Megastore next door, and if not there, then...
Kinokuniya Books at 10 w49th (bet. 5th and 6th ave), mostly manga, some VHS, but mostly english dubs, great magazine collection,
Asahiya Books at 52 Vanderbilt ave. (between 43rd and 44th st. sitting next to the side of Grand Central Station), great magazine selection, lots of manga, mostly Studio Ghibli artbooks, no anime (to my knowledge).
Bookoff at 14 e41st (bet. madison ave & 5th), discount (used) manga. Check out the $1 manga rack,
Image Anime at 103 w30th (bet. 6th & 7th ave, DVDs, VHS, Zoids, Gundams, models, wall scrolls, shirts, *cough* expensive HK DVDs *cough*, soundtracks and a few other things,
and Chinatown (if you know where to look).
...was that a subliminal hint to finding anime in NYC? Nah... oh, but if you plan on going to any of those places Friday, let me know, I have shopping to do that day... heh heh heh.
Oh yeah, if you're a Phish fan and want the NYE show broadcasted somehow, sign here on the dotted... link... yeah. http://www.petitiononline.com/Phish02/petition.html

So, DDR's done and uploaded, any motivation for doing another AMV will need to be ignored as I have to concentrate on SVA again so there goes that. Oh, and my website work is about to end and I'm about to be in $400 debt (which is steep in my atmosphere), so what do I do? Hook up with AnimeFTP, Direct Connect, and get some anime *big flashy grin*
For right now it's Jubei-chan (1-4), GTO (1-5), One Piece (1) and RahXephon (1-3). Jubei-chan is cute. It's directed by Akitaroh Daichi, so of course I find it cute, fun and imaginative. I still think Child's Toy is his best. The character design bugs me, basically. Too Astroboy-style-in-wrong-context-type (like Metropolis) bubbly. The action scenes are surprisingly pretty, but I can't even tell if they're, like, nicely choreographed since they come at such generic moments that I barely pay attention to them. I think it's funny how through Fruits Basket and Jubei, the aged film filter was used a lot. Well, not as much as Fruits Basket. Somebody's plug-in happy...
Then there's GTO. That's some well written stuff, there. Proposterous, but friggin hilarious. Wait... Jubei ain't exactly realistic either, but with that character design it's almost a give-in! Anyway, I would not mind seeing the rest of this show. It's serious, playful, and perverted at the right moments. Rather evil, in a Battle-Royale without the weapons kind of sense, but that makes it more dramatic.
One Piece... mm... ANN's encyclopedia said it was, what, 50+ episodes? I think... something over 26 which, to me, is wasted time. Well, ok, Child's Toy is 100+, but it still appealed to me more than One Piece, then again, I've only seen the first episode. I guess I'll wait til I finish these other series first before I pull a marathon on this one like I did Conan the Future Boy (which was totally worth it!!!).
RahXephon... Ya know, this is like what Evangelion could have been. There are so many things that, so far, mimic that of Eva it might as well be called Magical Winged-Thing-Coming-Out-of-Some-Wacky-Ass-Egg Evangelion and play off multi-universe series like Tenchi. Yeah, anyway... up to episode 3... and so far, interesting! Weird approach, I'm about as clueless as the main character, but I kind of want to kick him in the head for not accepting the oppotunity to find out the truth when he gets it. A fangirl of mine was talking to me how she loves this show over Eva. She didn't like the latter for reasons like Asuka being too much of a bitch, Rei being too weird and Shinji being too wimpy, etc. Can't exactly say that's a bad thing, but I haven't seen enough to judge yet, so we'll just leave it at that.
By the way, AICN reported James Cameron to do live action Evangelion? The gullible factor must be HUGE on some of you people because apart from the headline there were no details on the issue, no supporting facts and no conclusive evidence other than Cameron praising anime like Metropolis (for reasons I disagree with). Besides, the person who deserves to direct a live action Eva is Darren Aronofsky. Well, him or Kubrick, though post-mortem movie-making is kind of impossible, from what I hear. ... Who am I kidding? Anno's the only one who could direct a live action Eva, but we all know that'll never happen. Ok, ok, I'll change the subject, don't yell at me. Hey, wait, screw you! This is MY journal dammit! Get your own!
Oh, but before you go, if you know a place where they sell Berserk wall scrolls or, if it's even conceivable, Excel Saga scrolls, please let me know. I want my next one to be either of those two. Thank you in advance!

Hsien: The beauty of After Effects ^_^;
Speak of which, DDR's done! Finito! Over! No more of me complaining to my wit's end (or even mentioning it for that matter)! Now I get to make money again and concentrate on moving back to the dorm in... nine days... oh thank god... Dad is actually supporting my decision to bring my dual-monitor setup to the dorms. I originally didn't want to do it because of fear of damage and taking up even more space from my roommate. However, my RA had a dual monitor setup, had people coming in and out of his room all the time with no damage done, and I have this little nook (or cranny) in the room where I could just set up a stool and place the other monitor on it.
Figuring my work this year is going to be mostly computer-related if not all (an advanced Photoshop and Quark class, an After Effects and Final Cut Pro class, and a Type Design class (Adobe Illustrator/Macromedia Freehand mostly) with two humanities, I have quite a lot of time I'll be spending in my room, which I hope my new roommate doesn't mind. Hell, fuck him, it's my homework. But still, the first roommate I had (redneck republican west Pennsylvanian) would NEVER leave the room. I mean, NEVER. It became so frustrating... and the only time he would leave is if I was going somewhere and he wanted to come with. This is the same guy who would organize his DVDs by distributor, just so you know.
So yeah, ahh video classes... and the great thing is I have a ghetto-sized version of what the SVA video labs have so I don't even have to go there. Should I go into detail...? Yeah, I will. OK, they have PCs and Macs, and since this is SVA, they're pretty souped up but have nothing running "upstairs" (think Kathy Ireland acting. Hell, just think of Kathy Ireland). The DVCAM boxes are key to recording DV footage... I have the miniDV cam Dad finds no reason in using but buys it anyway. Studio monitors which are 15" I think. Alright, well, it's not going to be easy but I do have the viewfinder of that camera... Final Cut Pro plus keyboard... if I love FCP that much from the class (hell, it was a wonderful experience at Nathan's) then I'll go into the labs for that. Sometimes, Premiere, you do me too much wrong. I think that's about it. The major headache of the whole thing will be the wiring, since I either have to duct tape it to the floor or duct tape it to the ceiling. Either way does not sit well with me...
Oh yeah, cable's free in the dorms this year. It's Road Runner, too! No more @#!^&%!*@&%!% Comcast @%^$#^%!$&^&^%!@# monopolizing #@%^wads. ... yeah I know I'll be complaining about RR next month, too, but seriously, nothing can be worse than the S@#! we had to deal with this summer with Comcast.
Oh, right, this is an AMV journal. Um, I've been listening to the Marshall Mathers LP (downloaded, of course). When VH1 calls it an "Ultimate Album" I can't say it doesn't perk my curiousity (and Def Leppard's "Pyromania" over "Hysteria"? Call me lame but that is just wrong...). Actually, it's not a bad CD after all. Just as cynical as I would be if I could rap and wasn't raised in the f@#!ing 'burbs of Jersey. That's permanent brain damage, by the way, living in Jersey. Not the fact that it's a polluted, overpopulated mess, but the fact that it's so far from being influential... if I were to rap about it, it'd be the most boring rap song you'd ever hear, and it'd sound something like...
"I woke up by an owl hooting at me
Damn bitches think that Spears is a goddess-to-be...
I'm so bored I watch some MTV...
And jack off at that new vid by Jay-Z..."
Well, ok, I wouldn't exactly jack off to a Jay-Z video. But you catch my drift, it rhymes too much, has no rhythm, and I'm not saying anything new. That, my friends, is the spirit of central Jersey. It just sucks.
I'm so glad this is my last year in this state, it'd be better off without me in it anyway, trust me. NYC be my home now! Ooh, mail's here. I hope my copy of Weird NJ came in...

I HAVE FOUND THE ANSWER TO MY PRAYERS!!! Shut up and edit, me.

I just had an epiphany with my DDR vid... I just created this freaky looking thing in Illustrator and a thought popped into my head... AFTER EFFECTS! Lo and behold, I finally have something to begin, steady, and end this piece with! It looks perty good animated, too! What sucks is that I promised both Pat and Hsien I'd be done with this during the week, so now I have to scramble to get this thing done to my liking, and unfortunately I have to render out a 2900x2500 composition (with motion blur) just to get it at its highest quality. Ah well. Ok, technically I do not have to rush-finish this piece, but it'd be nice to get this friggin thing over with...
Geez... two months on this thing now and still not done, I wonder what next year's is gonna be like...
