The year anniversary of my not working on an AMV.
2002-08-27 17:14:06
Yes, indeed, it's been a year since I finished my work on Numb and let Nightowl handle the rest. Since then I've made no effort to make another AMV, well, except various random attempts at creating concepts and having them all crushed because they sucked or were ok... but not worth the time. Does DDR count? Or the video made at Nathan's in one week? Well, I guess the work I did on Nate's counts. Not under my name, exactly, but it's still work. Then again, I didn't really have much of a say in which clips go where, but trust me I know I could have said, "let's try this" and he'd be up to it. Guess I just had too much on my mind, coming back from my first Otakon and all. Wasn't menial work, either. There's a lot of creative practice when you're trying to figure out how much blur should be added, or color or viscosity, gravity, and power and what not. Am I giving away too much? Nah, I'm just letting you all know there are effects in this video. I mean, duh, I was working on half of it.
It kind-a ERRKS me when people who use effects so tastefully and perfectly (so that it's not noticable) do not receive proper credit. No, that rotoscoped Touga was originally on planet Zylox in the series! No no, Kiki really did fly with Nausicaa, that girl from Only Yesterday and that other girl from Laputa. I'm only bringing this up because recently I was arguing with a guy over my Every Breath video. He was saying that Arima really does appear above Miyazawa's face, in the series, when she's lying in bed. Ok, it's called 29.95fps effects over 23.95fps, idiot. That, and my mask feathering wasn't done well and certainly not fit for Kare Kano. Now, I don't mind a guy sharing an opinion, like, "I don't think there's enough lip sync to give it a score." Fine with me, that's an opinion I can respect, even if I think differently. But, "you didn't edit a thing from the original music video..." is not true. Apparently I did one hell of a good job mindfucking you so much, you didn't notice the curtain opening behind Sting's head in the original video. Do some research before you dare testify against fact.
Otaku who rant on topics they don't research, suck. Yes, they suck. No, don't give me that, no excuses, they suck.
God, I'm cranky. I am also rather peeved at Bush right now. Yes folks, take it from ol' George W. and go cut down some trees so it'll prevent forest fires. Someone just punch him for me. That is all.

I know I'm writing a lot, but I just wanted to post this.
2002-08-24 13:19:09
AQ: What is your opinion on anime music videos from a company standpoint and from a personal standpoint? Have you seen any anime music videos?
Mr. Yamaga: What exactly do you mean?
AQ: Like the anime music videos that we are going to be showing tonight?
Mr. Yamaga: I like them a lot. I think that they are very well done.
Mr. Akai: I didn't know that they existed. I actually like them personally.
Mr. Yamaga: I feel that copywriting is only for professionals. For people who are doing it for their own enjoyment as a hobby, I feel that the line is very blurry. The reason that copywrite laws are so strict is because it is very difficult to make the distinction whether or not someone is professional or amateur. But as Gainax, they got their start doing similar stuff so it's very hard for them to say, "No, We won't allow that'. They also feel that they don't really want to say that. As Gainax, the corporation, they have to say, 'No, we haven't seen it', 'Nope, haven't heard about it'. That is how they deal with it.

Suggestions for ErMaC
2002-08-24 06:31:51
I think you're missing some key points, hope these suggestions can help.
If you're doing something on parody, you MUST include Excel Saga. Since the general plot is nothing too important anyway, you can get away with showing episodes out of the blue. Take, for example, the first, second and third episode, then go right to the one where the Puchuu's turn into Harlock and Maetel. THAT's parody. Also Abenobashi Mahou Shoutengai 2-7 should do the trick.
If you're doing a major thing on Eva, you must do a major thing on Utena for shoujo-representation. The Utena movie will work, even though the series is a much better option (though, of course, long). Since you can't do Fushigi Yuugi, this should work instead.
I think you should show Read or Die to emphasize how computers, when used correctly, make beautiful shows out of lacking scripts.
Does Maison Ikkoku have an OVA? There has to be something of the perverted, shy but sweet guy genre (Love Hina-esque) that you could show since that's a major subgenre.
I don't think Perfect Blue is *that* important a movie, since it was basically a Hitchcock ripoff, though I can understand why it'd be shown. I do really stress Metropolis not being there, though. It was cute, it emphasized the old drawing style of Tezuma (it's Tezuma, right? I'm tired, not good on names.) but it didn't really evolve from there. It's beautiful, but so is Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust which deserves to be shown.
Don't think Totoro should be there? I think it certainly helped Ghibli establish a link with children and the adoration of parents.
Lastly, you include Wings of Honneamise, Evangelion and FLCL. I strongly suggest playing Daicon IV before playing any of these to show where these shows come from and how fandom evolved into an empire. I did that on a friend of mine. He wasn't really into FLCL or Eva, but I showed him Daicon Film, and explained the evolution of Gainax and he immediately picked up FLCL again and loved it.
So again, just my opinion on these. Hope it helps!

I WRITE TOO MANY JOURNAL ENTRIES!!!!
2002-08-23 23:51:23
And my counter's at 1290. I can't wait for 1337, though it doesn't beat Hsien's 13337ness. I'm little leet. Little league? Actually, that's been the buzz around here for now. Harlem lost, oh well. People keep looking at me funny when I tell them the reason they didn't get caught for an overaged player (like... last year, I think) was because the coaches made sure the team shaved their pubes regularly. Yeah I know it's a sick thought but hey, it's sick that uncatered pubes could have been the reason why that one kid got caught last year in the first place!
So I'm breaking from GTO, One Piece, Jubei, and RahXephon to watch Kodocha (past ep. 39, thanks #Kodocha via DALnet!), Puni Puni Poemi, G-on Riders (raw footage), Tenchi Muyo! GXP and Video Girl Ai.
Ai is wonderful. Well, the manga anyway. Read through the whole thing in three days. You have no idea how depressed I was at that ending... I repeat, "YOU HAVE NO IDEA HOW DEPRESSED I WAS AT THAT ENDING..." Read ahead to the next... some-odd # of paragraphs if you have no idea what I'm hinting at.
Anyway, that last chapter... first I was like, "Aw man, that's it, it's all over, she's dust, she ain't coming back, it's been two months, everybody's saying how great she was (and how much of a f@#$ing moron Youta was), that's it. I was kind of surprised that she hung around like pixie dust while he was working the whole time. It's like, if you know the love of your life is going to disappear after you finish the book, DON'T FINISH THE BOOK! Or if you knew she was coming back after he was done, HURRY UP MORON!
Either way, to see her start disappearing when he was done, my heart was in my throat. Then she just appears behind him, that saved me, I totally would have slashed my wrists had it gone... wait, no I wouldn't have, but it would certainly have ruined my day like End of Eva. No, instead my sanity was saved.
What a great story. If you're able to read past "Why did he say that? Why don't I just stop asking MYSELF these stupid questions and ASK THE FRICKIN GUY INSTEAD!" That would have been me in that manga. I'd be like, "Why did she smile then? Maybe she... aw fuck it. YO BIATCH! WHAT WAS THAT?"
Ok enough of that. I got a haircut two days ago, so now I reek of uber-Abraham Lincoln-goodness. No really, got the beard and everything. Just need a top hat. Ahh... finished a Coolata, now I'll go sit in the bathroom for five hours. Ta ta!

BRIBERY IN AWA PRO!
2002-08-23 01:52:57
I'm sorry, but after reading Quu's journal I find this funny:
$action = $_REQUEST["action"];
So, basically, to get an automatic win in a contest, AWA requests money be given in order for that "action" to occur... hmm...
yeah... back to website work...
